GOLDEN LEAGUE WMC GRAND PRIX - 70 KG
PADOVA, SATURDAY 19th NOVEMBER 2005
The beautiful city of Padova was the next host city for the WMC Grand Prix. The stadium was filled to its capacity and has been one of the most exciting events Italy has seen. Not only have there been some of the best light and middleweight fighters on the card, but also the WMC Female World Title fight was to be staged. Once again, the new WMC Grand Prix is a perfect entertaining mix 8 will square up but there can be only one winner. The evening started with the traditional reserve fight between: Carlo Di Paola (Italy) vs Alexandre Boyance (Swiss) –l fight A very nice and technichal Fight Winner: Di Paola by points
Quarter finals
Pool A Kaoponglek (Thailand) vs Petro Nakonechnyy (Ukraine) – Kaoponglek needs no introduction in the fighting world, and his opponent from Ukraine won the IFMA Championships and also was the winner of the MUAYTHAI Against Drugs belt – surely a tough fight for Kaoponglek. It was the highlight fight of the evening, both fighters showed similar outstanding Muaythai style and the judges had to be called for an additional round. Kaoponglek, with more fighting experience, acquired higher score winning this fight. Both fighters received a standing ovation. Fabio Corelli (Italy) vs Jerry Morris (Holland) - The audience went wild when the famous Fabio entered the ring. This was one of the crunch matches of evening. Both boys really went toe to toe from the opening and the first round was an absolute war. The first round ended even and the second still remained where the first ended. However, the mid second round Morris landed a solid punch and that was the end of the fight. The whole stadium went silence and the Dutch fighter advanced to the Semi Final Pool B Vasily Shish (Belarus) vs Michal Hansgut (Czech Republic) Great opportunity for Italy to witness two top-class fighters battle-it-out on stage! The Belarussian, a solid kicker, and Hansgut, a big puncher, are with no doubt two of the world’s best. The 2nd round got heated up when Vasily released a sensational high kick just as Michael tried to throw a punch. Unfortunately the kick of Vasily was more effective saying good night to the Czech boy. Belarussia moved into the Semi Final. The second Semi final also was a fight to remember Benhady from France IFMA Champion against Japanese sensation Yamamoto This was a technical fight both boys showing superb MUAYTHAI skills but it was the French fighter which was stronger in the finishing winning by points
[b]Semi-finals[b]
Pool A Kaoponglek (Thailand) vs Jerry Morris (Holland) – Holland versus Thailand always a crowd pleaser. Both boys really had to dig deep, then again, it was the Thai with more strength in the art. However, in the second round, he had to leave the ring in pain as sustained an injury and could not continue. So Jerry Morris from Holland was in the final. Pool B Vasily Shish (Belarus) vs Yassine Benhadj (France) Benhadj demonstrated his magnificent skills, as he has made his way through the amateur ranks and IFMA fighters are used to this competition style as sometimes they need to fight 5 times within a couple of days to reach the finals. This fight really had the crowd on their feet. The French winning a close point decision and the final was all Holland versus France. Final Jerry Morris (Holland) vs Yassine Benhadj (France) Both boys really fought the fight of their life but only one can get the prestigious WMC Grand Prix Belt and after 3 hard rounds the decision went to Yassine Benhadj from France. Great job Yassine, you deserved it! WMC WOMEN WORLD TITLE BETWEEN Kalliopi Yeitsidou (Greece – Champion) vs Silvia Valicelli (Italy - Challenger) – WMC Professional World Muay Thai Title Kalliopi really have made a big name for herself in the female MUAYTHAI circles and this is the second title defence. Both girls showed the audience that female MUAYTHAI can or is even more exiting than male MUAYTHAI and this fight was an absolute excitement. 5 rounds of knees, kicks, punches, and elbows. The belt stayed with the champion from Greece. The rumour said that Kalliopi is challenged by the 55kg Champion from Thailand Daoprasuk, the biggest name of female MUAYTHAI in Thailand, stay tune for confirmation – certainly it will be one of the greatest female fight in the history. more info >> www.wmcmuaythai.org |
