Anyone got the story or a link to the new rule made or getting made in NSW with headgear a must to be worn in MT or KB fights ?
there a page on facebook about it but lacks info from the page "About. We personally don’t agree with the way the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation insists on headgear for Kickboxers and Muay Thai Fighters, yet MMA fighter don’t have to wear it. No other state in Australian does it. Press Like Description We are talking about all the good people down there at Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Kri Gal, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, MMA, all those other sports. We are athletes. All other areas of the fighting arts in other states and other countries don't need people looking over their shoulders. More people get hurt just walkiong down the street. The thing is, these guys don't understand, that these people are athletes. They can take care of themselves. Press Like to end this bull**** and enjoy the entertainment that comes from watching people match up." http://www.facebook.com/ThoseAgainst...gearInNsw/info

In a state where promotors are already having trouble getting fans to fight nights and a state that has awesome fighters but not the depth of talent as states like w.a and QLD the NSW combat sports think its a good idea to make every one wear head gear.
How is this a level playing field? Killing the sport in NSW!! |

combat authority might as well bring back mandatory shin pads too while they're at it.

What a joke, People dont pay to go see a fight night where all are wearing headgear. These guys train as hard and generally speaking harder than many other contact sports. They prepare to be hit not like a head high takle from side on which i beive is 10 times worse.

Is this for Amateurs only or Pros as well?
Funny that AIBA is looking at taking head gear out of Amateur Boxing and these guys are going backwards. |

The problem is every man and his dog is putting on shows with a fighter pool that is limited, this will always cause issues. So it goes in a circle, if the promoters want a bigger fighter pool, should the amateurs not wear IFMA style protection so they can fight more frequently? If they fight more frequently (like am boxing), the skill level of the amateurs could actually improve and we might stop seeing the scrap fests we often see in am shows. THIS INCLUDES ELBOWS, which so many "muaythai" gyms in Sydney are so reluctant to use even with pads on! Imagine the improvement of the standard of Muaythai in NSW if all am fights were fought with IFMA style protection? Some promoters are doing PRO/AM shows to try to level it out. I also believe something needs to be done re: the price point of the am shows. Some shows are charging $60 for an amateur card which is ridiculous. The upcoming Warrior FC show, Jason Lapin's Spirit, and Nick Stone's upcoming cards are all examples of how this could actually work and not only promote the sport, but improve the quality of the amateur ranks. In QLD they do a lot of "smoker" style tournaments at the moment and they are coming along leaps and bounds, but unfortunately most gyms in Sydney dont have full size rings, and CSA approval is also required for these types of events. I'm still trying to decide which side of the argument I'm for though. I want guys to compete as regularly as possible, but I also want them to get the full fight buzz of no pads. I believe the future of the sport and how we approach the Act is not in the hands of the fighters, trainers, CSA, but actually in the hands of the promoters to change the way events are held. ***thanks for reading LOL |

amatuers only Sy, it is a joke, the problem is that only two sanctioning bodies are working together to try & put a stop to this , the rest dont have the balls, & promoters are too worried about money to try & back up these sanctions, will kill the sport in NSW

poondaddy, headgears are more dangerous to fight in due to it taking more blows to ko you than if you werent wearing it, & as for shin guards why should i spend so much time conditioning my shins if we are going to cover them with padding
