Default Who’s flying the flag/carrying the torch?…… Where are we heading?

Was watching the Thailand vs Russia fights last and it got me thinking. Who have we got that is truly at an international level in Muaythai and can compete with the best of the best in their weight? Where is muaythai in Australia heading?

Its 2 questions, but I think they are related.

England is coming along with some great fighters and their junior leagues are going to take them to the next level.

The eastern block countries speak for themselves.

France has some amazing fighters,

So where are we? How are we going to compete with these countries who have amateur muaythai tournaments on a regular basis, and with enough kids fighting regularly to have a ranking system?

Some of these countries have programs in place that allow for complete government funding. Granted this is tough in a politically correct country like ours, but its making an impact in the eastern block and in countries like Iran who are now making massive improvements in the amateur scene and will no doubt progress into the pro’s.

Off the top of my head: Paul Slowinski, Edwards, Corbet, McKinnon, Franki G, Mike 300, Kurt, Aaron TS2, Toby Smith, Caley Reece.

I heard the fights were clearly one sided & the Thais cleaned the Russians up but I see your point. Not many people letalone countries can take on the best Thais at their weight but the best chances are definitely in the higher weights where the competition is not so strong. From Pin Weight to around middleweight it is dominated by the Thais & will remain so for many years to come.
Of that list of fighters, the heir apparent to JWP looks to be Toby Smith. Looking forward to see how he goes.

Yeah, Singmanee and Sittichai had a field day!

To add, who could we even match with the likes of Kulebin, Pinca, Liam Harrison, Youssef Boughanem, Yohan Lindon, Damian Alamos, etc??

Mike 300 having come off fighting Superbon and having a strong, close fight with Saiyok I would deem VERY capable of mixing it with those boys - Toby is REALLY good, but I still think 300 is the one to give it to the boys named above right now.
