Just signed up with Twitter, anyone know what the deal is with it? Just looks like a stalking site to me.

Used in the correct way it can be a strong new media tool.
Hasn't really taken off in Australia yet like it has in America.
From what I've seen the majority of people who use it here are either celebs, politicians or people who work in the media industry or need to have an understanding of it (just an example).

I've found those who are quick to talk it down are those who really don't understand how it works or have bothered to try and understand it.

Mate, you do not have to tell me about it. Corporates, not-for-profits and Government are now paying big bucks for 'social media' strategies, rather than one-way traditional marketing campaigns. As a matter of fact, I am writing one right this very second.

Regardless, my initial point still stands. Social media is a disease created by pharaceutical companies to increase personality disorders amongst young people.

Believe that.

Hiro,

I love a good conspiracy theory, so happy for you to run with that.
Moon Landing, 911, JFK. Keep em coming...

What's wrong with a many-to-many relationship between these groups/people and the consumer/citizen?

Many-to-many allows for a healthy democracy IMO.

I do find it quite amusing the amount of self proclaimed social media gurus at the moment. How anyone can call themself a guru when social media is still in its infancy is quite strange. Will be years, if not decades before the full extent of the impact of social media can be analysed and measured.

Just think it's far too easy to write off the usefulness of these tools.

Don't get me started on the so-called 'global financial crisis'.

I am not writing them off at all. I know how valuable they can be. And you are right, the effect that they have on society will not be known for a long time. I just think that it will be negative.

Do you know how anxious I have seen people get if their friends do not like or comment on their status? I find it hilarious that people do not realise how pathetically obvious it is that their status updates/tweets etc are nothing more than a cry for attention.

Scientists recently run tests and discovered that the "moon rocks" the astronauts braught back are in fact tree fossils. I find it funny how many people just accept what the government wants them to and call people who look at facts and question what they're shown as "conspiracy [u]theorists</u>"

Chris, I agree, it would be useful as a media tool for promoting one's self or their business. I only joined up with Twitter out of curiousity, but have realised it doesn't really appeal to me, so am going to delete my account.

Hiro, I'd be interested in hearing about your theory on this so-called 'global financial crisis'.

Cheers

This is medically proven. As is AIDS.

And the infiltration of crack and rap music in the African-American population.

I don't doubt its existance, just its origins/purpose.
Also it only kills people with already irraticated immune systems such as elderly, HIV infected people ect. [Just sounds like a stronger version of the flue, no?]

Me to. There would be heaps of people who have had sex with monkeys bareback and not caught AIDS.

kinda feel like it took off over there cause sms/txting never did.

it's pretty much fallen into the "do people stil . . . " category already cause despite massive user uptake it has ****ing terrible rate of member retention.

See I knew America landed on the moon. Me hoping to become a Vampire is looking good indeed.

Yeah Aaron, Twitter won't work for you as a social individual, sort of like, asking the mrs to, "Cook me some f$cking eggs!"

Stick with Facebook dude, a Web 2.0 Platform, built for a mature audience it's for grown ups!
