Why does this have to come up again.

Either, depending on the fighters.

Ultimately you see what a promoter puts out there. Promoters like everyone else, run a business, and if one sports gets more sales - that is what they put on. I understand Fox only put on MT these days, or modified MT, so this is also a factor.

Personally - prefer kickboxing, each to their own.

Fight shows are changing as well, trying to get sales. A "multi" show, including stand up and ground fighting mix, say - MT, Kickboxing, Boxing, MMA and traditional fight sports such as Karate might bring in bigger crowds.

One I would like to see if a "step up" event - round 1 is boxing, round 2 is kickboxing, round 3 is MT or MMA. That would keep fighters busy and the crowd watching. This would probably have to be outside of "rigid" sanctioning bodies which have fixed rules (WKA, ISKA, WMC) and would be available to the flexible sanctioning bodies who are not tied down in protocol and can create new events. For this it would have to be WKBF or JNI's new body.

Personally I am a bit over promoters who put on heaps of fights, heaps of titles but all amateur so they don't have to pay a purse. If you want to see a technical fight, we need to support pro fighters.

IF you want to see a technical fight, then clinching is a must.

Clinching is alot harder then you think. Its abit more boring with some amature fights but good in pro.

If you go to some shows Kosta it is not obvious that kickboxing is dying.
Kickboxing has a big history in Melbourne and will be around for a while to come.

Kickboxing personally.

More exciting to watch, as there's no grapple, plus just in my opinion, I don't like the fact that Punches and leg kicks are scored low in Muay Thai.

Does this topic have to come up again. Everyone has different opinions and everyone has expressed their opinion on here several times over, can't it just be left alone.

I like both, depending on who is fighting, but i would have to say kickboxing.

It's okay to talk about which style you prefer to watch just as long as people don't start insulting people on their choice.

They had a similar event in the South Island (NZ), 3 contestants, 1st fight Boxing (3 rounds), then Muay Thai (3 rounds), then MMA (3 rounds). From memory, I think they billed the show "Gladiators" ,or something along those lines, a friend of mine was in it, it was a successful show from the accounts I got.

The thing was, each fighter had back to back fights at least once, so it'll take a bit out of you.

I think the idea you mentioned above would be good, with each round alternating, i.e Boxing, Muay Thai, then MMA.

Just remembered (and I know it is only a movie) the final fight scene in Kickboxer with JCVD was a "step-up" affair - first round was kickboxing, then the knees were added, then elbows. I remembered the bad guy Tong Po before the start of each round would point to the new weapon he was going to add .... I don't know whether this is something the directors came up with, or whether traditional fights can be done this way in MT.

This is not a great discussion to have on a national forum,

Muay Thai in Melbourne is starting to pick up with some fighters at a great level, ie; Jarrod Grigor who can put in a performance which is fast paced and action packed, problem is most shows feature beginners who are being put in front of a crowd expecting top line pro's.

For the Melbourne kickboxing fans they should watch some of the shows from Queensland, yes they are Muay Thai and most are action packed, fast paced and feature lots of KO's.

I think there should be way more shows like the one Hammer and Carl put on the weekend, if fighters can 5-10 fights on these then feature on the main shows the crowd will see a different level Muay Thai.

I suppose it doesn;t matter because MMA seems to be sport of choice around the world now and if kickboxing fans think the grapple can be boring in Muay Thai its nothing compared to the insomnia cure some of these MMA bouts are.
