Consider it spread....
Hammer, do Foxtel have ratings monitors, cos I reckon this event will attract more numbers than any replay, particularly the KB fans down here that might not usually watch the EVO shows...
Would be interesting to know the numbers.

I was told the Fox guys dont really like girl fights and i guess i could see there point a while ago, but now the chicks are fighting more like the lads and getting better every time.
Nicole vs Caley was a good clean fight..next time hopefully.

Hey guys. Did anyone record the fight? If so please upload ;)It must have been a war !!!
Dam it, missed it. Was rewatching my Bay Watch DVD collection, Dam you David Hasselhoff with your super toned body and superior acting skills, you get me every Friday night :(.
Hope everyone enjoyed it, was a great fight and every clicked on the night. Walked away without one bruise or injury from that fight, wasn't limping, nothing. Went had had dinner and drinks with Hammer after and couldnt believe I walked away from that car accident without a scratch. Was covered in Mikes blood though, ewwwwwww! I think thats the best cut I have ever given anyone from a punch. I think the scientific word for that cut is called a facegina ha ha. In between the rounds was worse then watching State of Origin when they pulled the staple gun out on old mate.
Still sad Michael gave Zambidis round three, I thought I did plenty in that round to take it. Is it because I am white [8)]??

What a fight . That was awsome. Just glad they let it go on and not stop the fight because of the cut. When he closed his eye, I swear I saw his eyeball. Great fight JWP, cant wait to see the next one.

Good fight last night. SO disappointed that Caley and Nicole's fight, or Erin and Sarah's fight was not shown, they looked more exciting than some of those guys...
Michael sounded like he had too many Red Bulls! Loved the verbal sparring between Michael and Hammer!!

Great fight, classic reaction by Jwp when the cut was realized. I thought Zambo fought a bit gun shy and wasn't his usual self, he let it go a bit after the cut though. Enjoyed the Luke Aram fight aswell.

just watched the show, what a cracking final. I scored it 10-9 10-9 10-10 10-10 10-10 (50-48) but JWP was awesome and was never going to lose after that cut. Surely he has the strongest chin in Australia and was all over Zambo even after receiving a couple big punches. I was surprised just how good he is at straight kickboxing as weren't many knees thrown with that single-hand grapple rule.
He will really give Buakaw a huge run in Jamaica.
ps. would be interested to know what he weighed on the night...75-76kgs? Looked way bigger than Mike. All part of JWP's great preparation. I thought Zambo didn't look anywhere near as hard as he has been in the past.
Question: Zambidis was asking Dave end of the 2nd break "ïf the fight is stopped after the 3rd we go to the cards" and I am pretty sure Dave said "yes thats right"?
Wouldnt it be a TKO win because the cut was from a punch and not a headbutt? Isnt it for a headbutt you go to the score cards after the 3rd?
Glade you liked it Voice. I thought I won round 3, 4 and 5 were close but I thought I landed plenty in 3rd?
oh and 81-82ish before going stadium.

haha, fark! You grew nearly 15% overnight! Must have been that special HGH formula that Yod lent you...lol:D
If you touch gloves against Buakaw at 80kgs on the night he is going to get one hell of a fight.
No way you lost any rounds, those last 3 were so close. Mike didn't throw many decent kicks but I thought the judges were pretty spot on for that fight.
The last judge had it 50-46, who would of thought all these years later would get a score like that, amazing feeling.

4th round was my favourite. The way you took the punches but just kept getting the high scoring combos in. Very clever
and I think Dzhabar v Zambo would be a top fight. Zambo would win though

notice Zambo didn't begin to fight until JWP cut him? Not sure of his strategy but he lost the fight in that time where he was asleep and JWP picked him off. Bloody (excuse the pun) great last 3 rounds...huge leather thrown, taken, and returned in kind. That cut was hideous.
seanmcgrath
06-06-2009, 06:33 PM
He seems to do that a lot. I really wasn't impressed with his fight. JWP did really well to keep Zambo in Wayne's range and Zambo out of his own. He never really got his range until the last few rounds and all he did then was throw overhand rights.

Mikes plan was exactly the way he fought but obviously wasn't expecting the cut.
His plan was to feel JWP out for the first two rounds then go full-bore into the 3rd, 4th & 5th.
The cut at the end of the second didn't stop his gameplan but the damage was done and no way was he
able to concentrate on what he was meant to do - he was mainly just protecting the eye.
He realises it was a mistake to come into the 1st two rounds so timidly but like I said, the last
thing he was expecting was to get cut like that.
He's made no excuses and even said that JWP fought very smart and is more upset with himself than anything else.
I personally think that if he came out blasting from the word go, it would've been a totally different fight but hey,
it's over now so - once again, congrats to JWP and hope he does well against BPP.

That's the problem, Zambidis has done it against Dawson aswell, and only just won, and did it against JWP last time, and only just won.
Zambidis should not be ''feeling out'' his opponent for the first 2 rounds, while his opponents attack him with a high work rate and rake up the points like JWP did, and Dawson also tried to.
Zambidis' main strength is going hard at it with a high workrate, kinda of similar to Ozkan who would try and maim his opponents in the first 2 rounds, and go hard.
Hopefully he finally learns from these slow starts he does in Australia, and realises to keep his workrate very high from the start.

I think Zambo's fitness thesedays is not what it was when he fought Baris Nezif and Ozkan. Remember the fight against Souwer which went the extra round and he tired badly?
I think in the back of his mind he knew he must not tire against JWP who would be going hard the whole fight therefore perhaps the first couple of rounds were in 2nd gear hoping for the KO later in the fight.
Unfortunately, I think Zambo's great punching power has become his downfall...everyone knows he will be seeking the one-shot superbomb in the later stages so simply rack up the points early and then stick and move later on. JWP's gameplay was perfect and Mike needs to be more busy boxing and kicking for the little points all the way through the fight.

Wayne, just watching the fight again... you had the best view on the night so just wanted to know in Round 3 in the exchange just before you got a warning for clinching, did you rock Zambo with a straight right?
The camera only shows his back but it looks like he went limp for a second.
Hey Superman,
I rocked Zambo round three then he returned the favor round 5 rocking me a little.

Thanks, nice one.
by the way the tension in Zambo's corner after you cut him was something else. I was sitting right next to his corner and his female translator was screaming for them to find some vaseline between rounds. Watching a whole group of people that flew in from the other side of the world work together frantically to keep a fighter going gave me a whole new perspective on just how much is on the line during one of these fights and what a win means to either fighter.
I guess Zambo isn't going in the contender house then?
gvmartialarts
07-06-2009, 11:36 PM
I hope not. Please keep the Contender Asia for Muaythai stylists , not kickboxers wanting furthur modified K-1 style rules...
Contender Asia is doing great things for the sport, I seriously hope they aren't considering putting in Zambo. Wasn't there a Turkish version of a kickboxing contender style show?

It was a great fight night all round, couple of things that quite a few people picked up and im not sure if the production has changed with foxtel over the years either.
.Start of the evening when they had the line up for the fights it said Evolution 16 The Contenders, was up there a few times throughout the night.
.Iron Mike Zambitis instead of Zambidis
.Dave Hitchcock instead of Dave Hedgecock
.Ignatus Mistaldis instead of Ignatuis Missalidis
.Team Zambidis instead of Zambidis Club
.Mike Demetrious instead of Demetriou
.Phoutang's 115 K.O's instead of 151 K.O's
.The Camera Work for a couple of shots that rocked both fighters in the main event, there was a at least 4 cameras at ringside so it could have and would have been picked up , plus the semi main event that hit America the first time as well could have been picked up from another angle.
Im sure theres more that was picked up by others, apologies for being anal the fights and whole show was awesome it was posibly a production/post editing issue.
I really liked the way Hammer/Voice at the start of the night did there run down in particular hammer with the strategy in place to beat Zambidis,i think with time permitting this would be a valuable thing to everyone to see for all big fights shown on Fox Sports moving forward.Similar to the Teddy Atlas Fightplan that he does on ESPN Friday Night Fights where he plays both fighters,as shown below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1EHHUNuSJ8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Oc0yCC912c&NR=1
Id really like to see both boys on the commentary team if possible have there scores round by round as well be put up on tv not to be scrutinised by the tv viewer at home but to add to a how/why they scored it that way but more importantly to educate the viewer at home.
Many times ive seen a fight in particular a Muay Thai fight and in my head have though the other person has won so it would be great for everyone to be educated on the scoring and what the judges are looking for or what they saw in that round that we at home may not have even thought about.
Thought Shivs backstage interviews were done really well which was a perfect segeway into the next fight.
