I'm going, really looking forward to this fight..
will be Mundine's biggest test for a long time. I rate Geale above Danny Green any day.
I think will have a little too much experience to Geale.
Oh and Preacher is fighting on the undercard as well for those who didn't know..

KO????

Do your reasearch dude. Oh and Geale spars Bika who comes to knock you out as he spars the same way he fights....This is also a middle weight contest. Mundine lacks KO power at this weight...

Geale on points to beat the hit and run style of Mundine.

A tip for all. Anyone who knows Daniels trainer, Graham Shaw, would know that his fighters come well equiped, well conditioned and mentally prepared. Combine that with the pure skill of Geale and you would realise that this is a defining fight for Mundine. This will be one of the best fights Aus boxing has seen for some time.

I know where my money is going...

Geez, betfair is at $3.50 (5/2). I reckon at 4-1 I'd take a bit of Geale also.

Why can't they ever seem to put together a top undercard on these events with Australia's best and most experienced fighters? The main support is a League newbie...
Even the Friday night Fenech fights have better cards.
Best of luck to Blake...

Awesome
21-05-2009, 11:19 AM
Voice, agreed about the undercard... It is ****e. The large majority of fighters haven't even had a fight before.

What is even more rediculous is the fight between a guy with an 8-0 record against one with an 0-4 (See Brown V Kiatpaiboom). Am I reading that right or is there something seriously wrong with that?

fighta29
21-05-2009, 11:20 AM
Jeff has nothing to do with the organisation or promoting of the Fenech fight nights. He simply has the rights to the fox air time. The hard work is done by the team at Grange Old School Boxing,

fighta29
21-05-2009, 11:25 AM
This is a format Koder Nasser has followed in most of his promotions, average quality fights/fighters. It means that less is spent on the undercard fighters, to the point where he gives them tickets to sell, rather than paying them. Kills two birds with one stone, fighter is paid, tickets are sold, this means there is no middle man to pay.

Just kidding. Geale brings all the attributes that mundines previous opponents lack. He can match his speed. Has better movement, can punch/defend/counter from virtually any angle, and is not intent on a knockout, though he will if presented with the oppurtunity. Your also talking about a boxer with 160+ amateur fights, commonwealth ganes gold medalist, olympian, with a pro world title.

I am with you Nick. This fight is going to be the beginning of the end for Mundine. He has avoided Geale in the past ... Geale by way of UPD. Not going to say too much , I have said it all in a previous post so .. Go Daniel ... stay focused .. dont rush , just pick away mate. 10 rounds to 2 ! too easy !

The first statement would have definitely been the most ridiculous.

Sorry Awon, but I am amazed at that bet.

Back on topic though. Fighta29, don't let your personal connection with Geale allow you to develop what I now refer to as 'Hatton Fan Syndrome'. Match his speed? Not even in a car. Better movement? Not even on the dancefloor. This fight will be close, but don't get carried away.

I'm actually getting a little excited for this fight. Apart from a couple of wagers to lift the interest, seems this fight is a major crossroads for both fighters.
A loss has an obvious effect for Mundine but for Geale he has a chance to propel to a serious contender for a mainstream title. If he loses that door will probably close and it will be local fights and obscure sanctioning bodies for the foreseeable future.
Definitely a high point in the boxing calendar this year.

My prediction is a points win to Mundine (5 point win).

Reports are that Geale is looking sharp as and that hes hes been sparring with sakio bika the last 6 weeks, one of the betting websites has geale at a whopping $9 to take the win by decision, astronomical odds when u think about it.

Voice
25-05-2009, 01:58 PM
I'd have thought anything over $4 is pretty ludicrous as he is definitely a credible opponent and Mundine hasn't been the most active of late. I usually like to reference Betfair as the punters make both sides of the market rather than the bookies ripping people off with short odds to back the win only (rather than lay against the win).

perrycale

Punters have obviously jumped on the Geale Train now,but according to this u can still get Geale at $8.00 for a decision.

Monday 25 May 2009

BOXING: GEALE TO KNOCK MUNDINE OUT!

Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan said after huge money arrived for Geale to win the fight last week, punters were now tumbling in to Geale to knock Mundine out.

“A Geale win by KO has shortened up from $7.00 to $5.00 in recent days with punters believing an upset is on the cards,” Sullivan said.

“We took a bet to take out over $150,000 last week on Danny Geale and there has been a string of four figure bets on Geale to knock him out this week.”

Sportingbet currently has Mundine $1.30 favourite for the fight but punters are not interested.

“Mundine does deserve to be a short priced favourite for this fight but at this stage punters are not prepared to take the $1.30,” Sullivan said.

“While Geale remains a $3.50 outsider for the fight, it would appear The Man will have his work cut out for him on Wednesday.

“Danny Geale has a 21-0 professional record so he is no mug and unlike a lot of Mundine’s other opponents, he is a fighter on the way up who could have some surprises in store.”

ok I see what you mean...Geale to win by decision = $8.00. Interesting a decision is longer than for him to win by KO/TKO.
The main odds are $3.50/$1.50 which seems about right.

Anthony Mundine, Sonny Bill and a Kiwi look for a biff
Article from: The Courier-Mail

Josh Robertson

May 26, 2009 12:00am

A NO-NAME Auckland streetfighter upstaged Australian trash-talker Anthony Mundine yesterday, crashing a press conference in a hilarious, expletive-laden cameo.

Gary "The Baboon" Gurr, who will take on Sonny Bill Williams in the footballer's first professional fight tomorrow night, stormed in midway through the pre-fight presser at Boondall – from which he was apparently excluded.

"You f---ers started the party without me," Gurr shouted. "Where am I going to sit?"

Mundine, who'd just been asked how it felt to be part of the first world title bout between two indigenous boxers, was stunned.

"Who is this cat?" he asked.

"He's the guy I am fighting," a giggling Williams said.

"He's stealing your thunder, Choc," warned the indigenous reporter who had asked Mundine his last question.

"It's all good. Sonny B's gonna take care of him," The Man replied.

There was no seat for Gurr on the panel; ushered away by Mundine's manager Khoder Nasser, the stocky Kiwi hurled a water bottle and kicked a seat.

His parting shot was hardly Cassius Clay: "This is crap anyway. Youse are f---ing f---ed."

Williams was then asked if he was ready for such an opponent.

"I'd better be, otherwise the crazy man's going to give me a hiding."

Sonny Bill Williams is a fine looking man, with a fine body and fine tatts. If he were a race horse, he would be $1/$1 favorite.

Yeah you're not the only one. Scott thinks he's dreamy ;)

I wrangled the full length pic of SBW in his undies off Scott, and I've stashed it away for *ahem* personal viewing.

This was taken right before the douchebag (Gurr) shoved SBW across the ring. SBW just shrugged it off and laughed.

If nothing else, Anthony Mundine is good at marketing. Remember he wanted to be like the Louisville Lip when he started out.

"Bad Boy" Gurr has "stormed into" the press conference, but those in the know (according to the third article above)say he actually arrived early for his performance. It also suggests a little bit of pre-planning. Apparently when he threw his water bottle, you couldn't have thrown it any softer.

Anyway, made the press which would have been the aim.

I know a Sydney boxer who made himself available for SBW for this fight. It was politely declined as SBW's entry into the fight game was to be managed. It would have been the other fighter's pro debut.

Didn't see the fight, just saw the highlights, however from what I saw, Sonny Bill's opponent looked like the biggest bunny ever.

And Sonny bill looked almost as worse, and was throwing slow punches with no guard, but his hands down to his waist instead?

Can anyone that saw this fight give us a detailed report on the match.

End of the day ,i reckon geale CLEARLY won , if the ref didnt at take a point off or the very least a last warning for the tape which i think i counted as 8 times the fight was paused and that 8th rd knockdown of mundine which the ref somehow gave that as a slip then u kind know who the the winner is gonna be.

Mundines fight was awesome Geal is the real deal fighter.
Congratulations to Mundine on his win,I like mundine as a middleweight he seems to work more inside and was able to give as much as take it from Geal. Excellent fight.

Great night.

Mundine landed the harder blows, but Geale has a steel chin, and he gave Mundine some hard shots of his own, which were taken well by The Man. That was no knockdown on Mundine, he clearly slipped on the Boxa logo, as shown on the replay, and it happened again a couple of rounds later. I'm a Daniel Geale fan now, hadn't seen him fight before, but he has a lot of balls, and fights with style. Great, great fight from both guys, very worthy of a rematch. I think the knockdown in round 2 won the fight for Mundine, otherwise, it would've been a draw. Definitely not a clear win either way.

What a pitiful and disgraceful athlete Mundine is. I have no respect at all for him after he disrespected the referee, his opponent, the sport and general rules of the sport. What a tool. I can't believe he acted in such a despicable manner. Congratulations to Geale, you exposed Mundine better than any other fighter has. Excellent footwork, excellent bobbing and weaving and defence. Caught Mundine with shots many opponents never caught him with. Just lacked the mustard to seriously make a statement. Whilst Geale was more aggressive, landed more punches and made Mundine look off his game, Mundine landed the cleaner and more powerful blows.

SBW just looked wrong! I'd fight him without batting an eyelid and I'm sure plenty of other KBers would.

Well done to Kurt, too crisp and experienced in the hands department.

Preachers fight was good to watch. Toe to toe, punch for punch and never a dull moment of holding. Both boys happy to bang.

Omar Shaik had some impressive moves too.

Ron here...I was at the fight and I can tell you that it was prob a 80%-20% support for Geale. Even tho Geale did expose choc more and caught him with some good shots, choc was just wayyyyy too slick. Much cleaner and very crisp. When Geale got hit his head rocked back whereas when mundine got caught u never saw his head move. Geale is a warrior. Kept coming at muundine the whole fight.
Pornstar...8th round knockdown?? It was clearly a slip. Im pretty sure it was mundines back foot that slipped on his boxa logo. Karma mayb??
SBW, well he fought with his hands down and prob could have got caught if his opponent knew how to throw a punch. Im sure that guy was just picked up off the streets somewhere and asked to fight for $200. The fight before SBW was a low light as it lasted 50secs or so. I thought Alex Leiapi (spelling) was one of the better heavyweights in AUS and his opponent looked very out of shape and at 120kgs looked every bit of it!!

Funny is it? Ask John K above, I've defended Mundine plenty of times as I was an avid fan of his and thought better of him. That's why John K was surprised with my comment.

Rather, you're the ***** as you're not man enough to admit to something wrong.

If you think that his behavior is exemplary then by all means you can join him in the "disgraceful" pot.

Fact is, he doubted himself. He had no clue if he won or lost because Geale gave him an excellent fight and I believe exposed all his weaknesses perfectly. That's why he had to make a show of himself and walk around the ring rather than respectfully wait the decision.

Preacher tried hard but if he wants to win some boxing bouts he will need to just train in boxing for a few months to break his muay thai movement , weight transfer and balance mindset. He has good hands but he was being picked off at will just because of his footwork. It looked like he was still positioning himself for a kick at times.
Please dont get me wrong , I am not having a go at him i think it is great he is venturing into boxing , but you cant do both successfully , that is why the likes of Daniel Dawson is 100% foccussed on boxing now. Choose one Preacher ...

A mate of mine was carrying on about how SBW was in for a tough fight but I said that all the crap that Gurr was throwing up was just hype and that he would get smashed - that is the script and sure enough they stuck to it. Almost as bad as the Les Mason debut. Oops, sorry, nothing could be that bad and at least Gurr didn't need a manzear.

Geale is the real deal and Mundine did well to get past him. I see that he won't rematch him either - too close for comfort. I suspect that both will now move on to chase the big $ and fight some of the big name middleweights.

haha totally agree there mate. I wonder how he fares in golf/archery etc...

Also - I watched the fight again. With the commentary turned off. Mundine won 75% of the rounds PURELY cause he evaded all the useless shots made by Girl and land a couple clean/crisp/power shots.
