Just wondering has anyone trained in Holland? More so in Amsterdam?
Im going over there on holidays in a few weeks and wouldn't mind doing some training.
Just curious for any advice.
I've been looking at mejiro, vos and mikes gym.

Thanks

Both the Sting and also Jarrd Boyle have trained in Holland, I think there is an article in IK a few issues back.

I spoke to Sting after he trained there and he said the training was damn hard, no such thing as technique sparring, a lot of partner drills and it is all done at full power,

Actually at his seminar with Carl Drapper he showed a nice drill, 3 people one in the middle, one front and back, the guy at the front throws a combo then the middle throws the same back, as soon as he has finished the combo that split second the one at the back throws a combo and so on and so on, keeps you on your toes.

He said that during the partner work it was not uncommon for fighters to get KO'd and Mr Perfect's theory was if you cant take it here you wont take it in the ring.

a great deal of Europe is "no elbows", it doesn't mean they don't teach/train them, it's just that they don't fight with them... and if they do, they cut the fights short ;)

I know a guy who worked and lived in Amsterdam for a bit of a change. Trained at mejiro; sounds llike a great gym. Wouldn't mind gettin' over there at some point in time, perhaps when the wallet allows it...*sigh*

Vos is a great gym to train at, i trained there three months and always call in whenever im in Amsterdam. It isn't far from central station and easy to find. Plenty of places to stay, Ivan Hippolyte is the main trainer and a legend of the sport. All classes are busy and in Dutch the guys there are helpful and your partner in the drills will give you a quick explanation in English.
Everyone is friendly but you can expect to get the **** kicked out of you. They spar very hard, the harder you fight the more friends you will make in the gym. In the beginning i thought they just didnt like foreigners. They have some great A class fighters, Clyde Petre if he is still there is a very friendly guy and fought all over the world. He used to fight at lightweight i think so good for you Andrew. Classes are at night but plenty of guys training during the day if you want to make the most of your time.
Peter Aerts trains at Bert Kops Gym which is a short tram ride away. The have a web site in Dutch but you can get the address off it. Bert Kops was Hollands most famous wrestler (17 times Dutch champion), his father was an Olympic gold medalist and he fought MMA in Japan a few times. Friendly guys and good training.
Stay away from Chakaruki its in a dodgey area.
I have been to Breda but didnt train, its a fair way from Amsterdam on train and quite a small place. I think there is enough to choose from in Amsterdam.
Im a big fan of Alvir Lima who trains with Kraus so if it was me going again id go find those guys. Holland isnt big and has good public transport so easy to get around.
Enjoy :)
