For those of you that don't visit Ax,
Mike Zambidis def Wanlop in Italy last night. Ax site says that the fight went the distance, but that Wanlop was dropped in the fourth I believe.

He must be a reasonable fighter Paul...
Not many people go the distance with Mike Zambidis.

It's funny how no-one says the same about Baris Nezif and when they fought zam was an unknown.

Zam was good as an unknown against Baris....Now he is
"nearly" unstoppable.

if baris had concentrated on that fight instead of listening to what the crowd was saying and reacting to it and beeing really cocky
he might of had a better chance

nothing would have saved Baris's arse that night - ZAM could have finished him in any round he wanted to - Baris was dropped 3 times and every time he got back up ZAM held back - you can dispute all you like - fact is Baris had no hope - end of story
by the way - I'm not a Baris basher - he is a great fighter, I appreciated him more when he didnt display the new found cocky smart a r s e attitude he had of late -
after reading the interview in IK - its even worse when he simply cannot admit that he was completely outgunned by ZAM - maybe its Turkish pride

Zam was pounding Baris with his best shots. Baris didnt get knocked out!! He copped heaps from Zam and didnt go down.
Baris's gameplan was wrong. He tried to box it out, rather should of kept Zam at bay. For Baris, zam was a real surprise. Zam is the best fighter in his division in the world, and for BAris to take this fight on not knowing who the hell he is, and to last 12 rounds is absolutely amazing!!! Other fighters in Australia who have had time to study Zambidis havent even lasted half the rounds Baris did.
I reckon Baris's cocky attitide really only evolved cause he has had enough from the sport and was unbeaten for 5years and done it all. Its like "here we go again". The second point maybe that he didnt get the recognition he deserved. SImilar attidude to Gurkan Ozkan. Gurkan has worked for soo many years to show he is a great entertainer and a great bloke. Where in contract, Baris couldt care less. He is now a married man and theres a time to move on. Baris still can say, he is the only fighter to last 12 rounds with the worlds best kickboxer!
Baris you are still one of Australia's best welterweights!

Sorry Krama and Sirbilly, can't agree with you there.
Baris went for close to 20 fights without a loss and was very underated as a fighter.
I don't blame him for promoting himself more. As for his performance in his last few fights, when he lost to zam he was thrown in the scrap heap. I would lose my heart for the sport if after so many years people just pushed you to the side.

P.s. Not taking anything away from Zam, I think he is an excellent fighter, with a lot of accomplishments for his age.
I just don't think that he is unstoppable.
Gday
I was just looking at that Muay Thai rankings website someone posted a while ago and JWP(72kg) and Zambidis(69kg) are not near the top in either of there divisions. These are the people ahead of them. Does anyone know if they have fought any of these:
Ettouhlali Najim MOR IMO Champion
01 Veselic Stjepan NED
02 Posai Hor. Hattanachai THA
03 Duan-Esarn Kiatsarika THA
04 Sackmonkhol Kiatsongrit THA
05 Nuengtrakarn Por. Muang-Ubol THA
06 Sauwer Andy NED
07 Parr Wayne AUS
Champion Jomhod Kiatadisak FIN
01 Chaowalit Jockey Gym THA
02 Sakeddao K.T.Gym THA
03 Villaume Farid FRA
04 Seksun Carryboy THA
05 Densudkheed Mahachai-Villa THA
06 Changpuak Chor. Sriprasert THA
07 Aroetjunjan Drago RUS
08 Chalunlap FRA
09 Zambidis Mike GRE
Pele.
Sorry to get off the subject of Zambidis too much here but i agree mostly with everlast, even if it means i'll be ignored or ridiculed!!! That's cool coz it's an opinion page to me....
Baris was meant to fight Ben Steel in Newcastle probably about 2 yrs ago now, Ben Steel knew he had a knee injury & didnt say anything till just before the fight. They agreed, Baris was forced really, i spose, to fight boxing rules & he still wiped the floor with Steel.
i personally think Steel knew he wasn't ready for Baris under k/boxing rules & the crowd was quite rude to Baris when it wasn't really anything to do with him, he still took the fight like any champion would, he could have said 'stuff ya's'!
So I understand his arrogance a bit as i saw the s h i t he copped. Just a bit of info for yas, food for thought...

Yes, that was Jomhod. He is fights out of Finland these days.
The rankings to go by for Muay Thai are the Lumpinee and Rajamadreaman stadium rankings. Have a look on a search engine and you'll find them.
BTW,Zambidis shouldn't even be ranked on the independent rankings list posted here, as he has never fought Muay Thai and is not a Muay Thai fighter!.

Taking nathing away from Baris i think he is, was a great fighter, but a lot of u have missed the point Baris was undeffeded for so long and iron mike went in as an under card and won, it takes balls and corige to jump in the ring with a fighter like Barish and his fight record (at the time) and come out victorios!
If Baris wonted respect back way didnt he fight mike again at the night of stan vs oscan as he was suppose to, just like all good fighter do, go back and fight there opponents that have deffeted them to get the respect back.
Baris new for a fact that there was no way he was going to beet mike so he would rather keep it at just one deffet against mike.

Firstly, no disrespect meant to Baris as I'm a big fan.
But I reckon Baris absolutely did the right thing by not fighting Mike.
We saw Baris be troubled by Alexy, again no disrespect meant to Alexy, but if Baris couldn't beat him convincingly, there is little point stepping in against Zambidis. I mean, I think Zam is about as viscious a puncher there is in that division, and anyone that wants a go at zam I think needs to be in stand out condition.
If Baris is to have a re-match with Zam, I think he should come in confident that he at least has a very decent shot. I think that fight with Alexy was Baris's second since either late 99 or early 2000, and reckon Baris will need to be a lot more active than that to get himself in peak condition for Zam.
I do hope that his retirement isn't perminent, and that he doesn't if he does decide to fight again, that he doesn't waste too many years. But, I understand he's a young man and needs to concentrate on some of the other great and important things in life for now, but hopefully we'll see him back.
I think before Zam, that Baris was the closest thing to Zam back then that I had seen. He had some amazing and devasting KO's. I personally saw Danilovic, Mcfee and Duett live, and they were some of the best KO's I've seen.

good point about being inactive paul, but i remember when he got in the ring in springvale in 98-99 and challenged all the top fighters in his weight division ( by name ) because he couldn't get a fight - his words "I am the world champion and I will fight anyone to prove it", those are the words of a true champion and after his fight with zam he was on the other end where people were saying he was finished. In an ik mag article the reporter says " ever since your fight with zam things seem to have gone down hill", his response "i've had 3 fights 2 wins and 1 draw - how is that downhill", and i agree with him, however a lot of people share the reporters sentiment.
