Former boxer Jeff Fenech was arrested by Sydney police this afternoon after reportedly king hitting an associate.

Police from Kogarah in Sydney's south were this evening questioning Fenech, who is cooperating with officers.

A police spokesman confirmed to ninemsn that a 44-year-old man from Five Dock, in Sydney's inner west, was arrested as a result of an investigation into an incident that occurred at nearby Banksia today.

The Daily Telegraph has identified the 44-year-old man as Fenech and reported that the former champion boxer was involved in an altercation with an associate.

It was alleged Fenech king hit the man

Wasn't he released without charge?

Fenech is a great case study for those who wish to ban the sweet science.

I love how they use the term "associate".

This is not the first time Fenech got into a fight outside the ring. I think he is a totla loser. Has Mundine ever got into a physical fight outside the ring?

I did hear a few years ago that at the time he was playing footy, Mundine challenged Barry Ward (Bulldogs prop) to a fight in a quiet location and was comprehensively towelled.

Yeah but whats a 'king hit', seems the term has no limitations these days.

I have seen and heard of circumstances where simply by being a better fighter, you have been branded a 'king hitter'. The term itself is rubbish. I prefer 'sucker punch'.

Jeff Fenech says he is disappointed that his life-long friend Peter Mitrevski called the police after a fight broke out between the pair in Sydney's south.

The former world boxing champion admitted to punching Mr Mitrevski in the mouth after an argument yesterday afternoon at Banksia but claimed he was acting in self-defence.

"We got into a grappling motion, and all of a sudden, Peter threw a couple of punches," Fenech said on 2Day FM's Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning.

"I threw one — I tried to punch Peter just in the chest [to] wind him.

"[But] all of a sudden, it kind of rebounds off his chest and hit him in the mouth."

Fenech, who was later questioned by Kogarah police, said he remained disappointed Mitrevski phoned the authorities.

"Peter could chop my arm off and I wouldn't ring the police," said Fenech, who required stitches to his hand after the punch-up.

"When the blood was coming out of my hand so that made me feel a little better ... but then when I saw I'd hurt him I certainly wasn't happy about it."

The 44-year-old former boxer said he was hoping that no charges would be laid over the incident and the police would "realise it was just two people having an argument".

"[I hope our friendship] can get mended ... this is a guy that's at my house five nights a week," he said.

"Hopefully Peter woke up this morning and feels the same way."

I will never forget couple years back I went to watch Daniel Dawson Vs Russian fighter from Kostya Zsu gym when Daniel KO him...
After the fight there was a blue between the promoter Barry Raff and Peter Mistrevski snr and he threw a punch at Barry Raff in the ring and it was all on between the two, I was surprised to see Barry Raff hold his own... (very sad to see) The crowd that was still there went wild...

Yeh that was Anton Solopov, was supposed to be something special and to test Dawson before the IBO world title that Daniel Geale from our stable beat him for. We had an Amateur on that show, it was at the Marconi Club. What a circus.
