wow, what happened to be a great night...
It started off pretty crap, I guess that half had to do with the fact that another promoter was involved! However, tariks main boys of whom he promotes ie. Jenk and Ozkan were the main show...
Jenk, you are a great fighter. Never say die attitude electrifies the crowd! I looked around before jenks fight and everyone was soooo cheesed off.... James Vemoa is absolutely overated I think!! The worst fight I have ever seen....
Well as for Ozkan, damn. Ill just have to wait another 4months.. WOuld have been a cracker!!!
started off poor, ended with lighting!!! grouse, simply grouse.

I thought it was a great night also.
The highlight being the Behic V Cope fight off course.
I feel sorry for both Gurkan and Arthur. I'm sure they trained their butts of for this, and to have it end by accidental cut must be bloody frustrating. Oh well, the re-match will be huge. I'm sure it would sell out the Basketball stadium if it's held there again.
Also, I have to say that the venue was better than I thought it would be, it was great having room to walk around the ring.
I also thought that it was a really positive atmosphere amongst the crowd, and didn't see a single ugly incident.
Well done to both Tarik and Kelly.
I'll post some more pictures here on the forum tomorrow, courtesy of Mark and International Kickboxer.

Must say - in general 90% of the fights were very dissapointing. I will congratulate Tarik for reversing the judges decision re the Antoniou v Murat fight. Antoniou easily won the fight against an overrated, flat, boring Murat - he is simply an overrated amateur. Then again one must ask the question - what the hell do we have judges for if Tarik can simply step up and reverse their decisions? -
The fight against Cope and Behic was great. It saved the entire show. I must say I thought Behic would comfortably beat Cope, but I'm sure Behic was just as shocked as I was when Cope took all Behic could dish out and then give it back just as hard! Congratulations to both men for a great, solid fight. A message to Behic - Zambidis WILL DESTROY YOU!!! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! Especially after closely watching Behic yesterday. He struggled to take Cope's punches, tired quickly, and had no reserve left at the end to be able to go head to head with Zambidis who by round 6 would have been warming up.A vast majority of the crowd around me ( no they were not all Greeks!) were commenting that Behic was lucky he was not fighting Zambidis.Sorry Behic and all the Behic fans out there, but he simply is not in the same league as the little Bulldog.
It was dissapoinitng to see so many of the fighters tiring after only one, two rounds. Its something the trainers have to have a look at as it makes for a very boring and sloppy fight.
As for the main event, dissapointing to say the least. We were happy to see Gurkan actually holding back and picking his shots for once, and using his legs! Both men looked to be in great shape. It would have been an awsome fight. Gurkan looked very sharp and the few punches he threw really rocked Arthur. I had my money on Arthur to weather the early storm and simply pull apart Ozkan in the later rounds. But not to be.
The Vemoa fight was simply boring beyond belief! No power, no form, little techique, not what you pay $75 to watch. Can't remember his opponents name, bt if he's a fighter than I should enter the K1 and take on Le Banner and Mark Hunt at the same time even though I only weigh 80kg! Absolute rubbish! I can't believe trainers would let their fighters get in the ring having such poor form and ability.
Having trained with the great Dana Goodson many many years ago (May he rest in peace) there is no way he would ever let a fighter in the ring if they were not 100% ready (Paul Robinson excluded!)
Anyway - will continue to support the few fighters out there who actually train hard and solidly (ie Ozkan,Tsakonis,Antoniou,Behic last night) and provide the fans with good solid, consistent fights.
All the best.

Well there you had it... a night of mixed fortunes:
Murat Mehmet vs Tony Antoniou
This was Antoniou back to his best, his hands were sharp and so too were his kicks. Mehmet just didn't fire and he knew it, he was disappointed after the match because he couldn't get out of first gear. How the judges paid it a draw is BEYOND BELIEF... it was CLEARLY an Antoniou victory... Solak stepped in and DID NOT REVERSE the decision as he can't do that, but he gave the trophy to Antoniou because himself and the fans thought Antoniou had won it. It will enter the record books as a draw but the fans know that it was a win for the Wonder.
Vermoa vs Walsh
Oh my lord... I almost fell asleep if it wasn't for myself and Bob Jones giving the poor old Hammer a rib or two about his Bar 20 exploits while we were commentating this sleepfest!! I expected MUCH more from Vermoa... lovely bloke but disappointing fight.
Behic vs Cope
You talk about all time great fights and this was one of them... best fight of the year by faaaar and one of the best I've ever seen... Behic had to lose 3 kilos overnight to make the weight so we feared for his energy but from the opening bell he went hell for leather and hardly ever let up. Cope got dropped once - right on the bell but he kept fighting back and connected with clean rights to Behic's jaw at least six or seven times. This was a champagne display by Jenk Behic - watch it over and over and over again.
Ozkan vs Tsakonas
Well our guest commentator Stan Longinidis drew a comparison before the fight to the atmosphere and mentality of the fighters being akin to that of when Stan fought Alexio... lo and behold 1min and 8sec into round one it ends in a fizzer just like Stan and Alexio did!!!
On the turn Tsakonas connected with an accidental elbow that cut Ozkan open with a wound like a bullet hole - forget it, all over... Dave Hedgcock the ref steps out of the ring and joins us ringside to watch the replay and yes, you can see the elbow... after a bit of pendemonium and a very very upset Ozkan who knew straight away it was an accidental elbow, the fight was called a NO CONTEST. If it had gone three rounds it would have gone to the cards... if it had been a deliberate elbow it would have been a DQ but it was an accident.
How did they look? Ozkan looked sharp and determined - hit Arthur with some heavy shots early... but just not enough for us to tell.
Part II awaits us.

This is the shot that Michael mentions which dropped Mike Cope. I didn't think Cope was going to get up, he looked totally wrecked but managed to snap out of it.
Totally agree with Michael about Jenk's performance. If I had to think of the 10 best fights I've ever seen, I'd have to include Behic Vs Dawson, Behic Vs Amir, and now as probably the best Behic fight I've ever seen. I reckon Jenk's the best value for money fighter out there. You just know your going to see an awesome display of skill and heart every time. And I personally have never seen him fighting anyone that wasn't skilled enough to be there.
I'm saving the best pics for the mag, but it's cool of Blitz to not mind us looking at some colour shots, pictures make such a difference when discussing events. It's very unselfish of you guys, some of the other mags I get published in demand exclusivity and absolutely freak at the thought of them on the web for free.

Yes it did end up being a pretty good night! To be honest, the fights prior to Jenks were pretty boring... Supercharge, dont mean to be rude but, he was really in the clouds when he thought he'd rip gurkan apart... Wasnt Supercharges opponent the guy who got knocked out by a body rip by Lester Ellis??
Jenk V Cope made up for the whole night! Like I said to my mates, one great fight makes the night! I was satisfied to go home after that, then to realise that Ozkan was up next... I couldnt handle it! hehe All the hype in the crowd and the chanting "turkiye turkiye" it was really loud where I was sitting! Kickboxing is sorta like the cricket, no crowd no game... And thats why I believe Tarik Solak Ozkan has put kickboxing on the map, he has fighters who bring passion and fire in there supporters.
Well as for Ozkan, he did land a few heavy shots! But he went back and composed himself. Unfortunaltey the worst had occured, accidental elbow!!! dammn!
Well guys it looks like we STILL have to wait for Jenk V Zambidis and Ozkan V Tsokonas... My prediction, Jenk has GREAT SKILL but does not have the power and fitness of zambidis. Also, Ozkan will knock out Tsokonas. Tsokonas seems to be DAZZEDDD...

Jenk Behic, When doesn't he have a war of a fight?
The picture of Ozkan with the cut also reminds me of the time Ian Jacobs busted open Ed "Boom Boom" Bavelock from America with a kick. Same position of cut and just as deep. You can hear Bob Jones on the audio saying F****n looks like he has been shot with a bullet.
How times have changed,(for the better) back then, they administered a syringe full of something and half a bottle of baby powder to Bavelock while he lent on the ropes. This formed a paste and allowed him to fight on.

To everyone sitting in the crowd!
My name is Richard Walsh i was Jason Vermoa's opponent on Sunday night. I apologize to those of you who wern't happy with my style and performance the other night, especially 'PKATSA" who ever you are!
I offered to fight Jason on the Wednesday before because i heard that he had come to Australia to fight and his opponent had pulled out at the last minute.
I am no longer training to fight, i hold pads for fighters at the BOONCHU GYM. But i took the fight because i like Jason who i have meet in New Zealand before, and am keen to see him fight in Australia. Also i have promoted fights before and know how frustrating it is to get fighters fights.
Kellie Seif and Tarik Solak are friends of mine and it was a pleasure to help them out, i hope they were happy with my effort.
As for Mr. 'PKATSA' You say you are 80kg's and that you used to train, instead of knocking fighters before you know the whole story why not get off your $75 a seat fat ass and start fighting guy's like SUPERCHARGE and see how you go Mr. five rows back from the action. I had the best view and was treated well by all involved.
Thank you to the promoters and all that enjoyed my fight as much as i did

I am one of the people that train at Boonchu. And Walshy is a legend. You don't meet anyone like Walshy everyday. And for someone(not mentioning any names (PKATSA)) to sit there and say such insulting **** about someone they don't even know is a weak pathetic excuse for a fight fan. Anyone who steps into the ring win or lose is a warrior. Walshy your a Legend.

Hi All
Just on the topic, sometimes bouts are not has action
packed as we would like, but we should always respect a
fighter for stepping through the ropes and having a go!
Richard Walsh really did not have enough time to prepare
for that fight and was doing it to help out the promoters,
Maybe we should look at that area??
To Richard, I actually had you as winning,
remember knee's should score higher than punches!
But you guy's decide for yourself and watch the show on the
21st June at 8.30pm on Foxsports 2.

Good on you for stepping in with such little notice Richard. I hope we'll see you fight in Melbourne with proper time to prepare for the next time.
You espescially earnt my respect for your great gesture when you fought Lester Ellis.
For those of you that didn't know, and if I'm not mistaken, not only was Richard willing to step in the ring with Lester Ellis but donated his fight purse to a cancer charity.

Richard Walsh, you got my respect. Your a top bloke, you gave me a run for my money. It's a pleasure to have met you and thankyou for taking the fight at late notice, you're a true warrior to hop in and give it everything. No worries about everyone else, they've all got their own opinions, you got nothing to apologise for.
We're just doing something we love to do. It's a pleasure to come across great people such as yourself. You're a legend in my books, we're all just fufillng our own destiny.
It doesn't matter what others think.
All that matters is what you think about yourself.
We can't please everyone.
As long as we do what we want, without disrepecting others. Everyones got their own opinions. We'll do our own thing, when we want, how we want, whenever we want to do it.
It's very true you don't come across good people such as yourself everyday. I hope we catch up again sometime for a drink. Good luck in your future endeavours. Good luck with Boonchu.
I was impressed by your performance.
I hope one day I too can be as gracious and humble a person as yourself in and out of the ring.

G'day Walsh - firstly - would like to apologise for insulting you. You are correct - it does take a lot of guts to get into the ring. Understanding you had little preparation time for the fight may explain some aspects of the fight. I guess I was pissed off with the outcome of the main fight (through no fault of the fighters) and overreacted with my commentary.
When I used to train & spa etc, over 10 years ago, we had a raw 'mental' fight plan, thats why we love the Ozkans, Behics and Jacobs of the fight world - I will not pretend that I am capable of getting in the ring today - nor capable of fighting someone like yourself, but we have been 'conditioned' to seeing hard, solid 'ferocious' velocity fights that Tarik seems to be able to bring together so often. I would say that your fighting style is different to what I've been used to, not to say its innefective, but different. I must also add that I can still more than hold my own in the real world if required.
Again, sincerest apologies, I DO respect the fact that you did get into the ring and had a go, that in itself accounts for something.
