Good luck with the show Darren.
Also, can you put names to the 6 fighters?
One of them is JR right?
Rob McIntyre
26-08-2008, 07:00 PM
has it occured to you that maybe these fighters are joining Riddler becuase he is a good trainer? maybe better than their previous trainers? Maybe he can offer them better fights, more money, more exposure and a better fighting future?
If that is the case then of course they are going to join him. Hell, if fighters of that calibre walked into my gym and said "I wanna train with you now Rob" I certainly would welcome them in.
Question, have you walked up to Riddler and called him these names to his face yet? Why not?
1.. we know whats going on, other wise names wouldn't be mentioned.
2.. so your saying that if I offered all your fighters money and incentives, then it's Ok for all your fighters to leave you without talking to you 1st? No matter if you have trained them for 10 years and spent all your time and money in the process to make them better?
3... The show in Cannington should be a good one.
Rob McIntyre
26-08-2008, 07:41 PM
if it is better for them, then I have no problem. maybe you should ask yourself why it is that they felt they could not come to you and discuss their issues???
Maybe their is something about you, your behaviour, your attitude, the way you treat people that you could improve on to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
I am not saying that there is a problem, but when this stuff has happened to me in the past, I always want to know why they couldn't talk to me about it - did I do something wrong? Usually, yes I did and I didn't know it - I was the reason they wanted to leave and I was the reason they couldn't come to me.
just a thought, none of my business really, just sharing my thoughts
maybe maybe... they wanted more and did not want to talk about it feeling ashamed of what they are doing is wrong but went ahead and done it anyway. Then they cant face you to talk about it. After telling you that your like a brother to him the week before!
Any Way......
The domination promotion will be a good one with many of Perth's fighters featuring on it. Back to promoting up and comers as undercard fights for the Main fights which is what it's all about. Get the young figters to experience the feeling when a Title fight is on and be apart of it all.

Hey, Blair Smith here. Can anyone please explain to me what the hell has happened to weight divisions!? Trying to put my first show on with Darren has got me dumbfounded how most trainers arent interested in even giving away 500 grams! I had my first fight in 1991 and through my 12 year fight career always fought in weight divisions. There was no such thing as catch weights. Where is all this leading? Is there going to be a title for every single kilo from 50 to 100? If trainers were smart they would always bring their boys in just under the max limit for that division, its not rocket science. Trainers come on if your boy is fit and strong I dont think a couple of kilos in a selected weight division is going to make any real difference. Bring back the weight divisions now! Half the fighters I know dont even know what weight division they are fighting in!

Fair point.
I know with my fights I very rarely fought in a weight division, but more so at an "agreed"(catch) weight.
Most of the time the agreed weight will be the top weight of that division.
The only time I fought in a set division would be on a WKA show. From my experience they are the only ones who use them all the time.
Good point Blair - 500grams isnt anything. Maybe half a bottle of water?! I think that for title shots the weights should be exact and both fighters should make the agreed weight but for general fights 500grams - 1.5 is ok. If you wanna fight but its a little bit heavier then eat up - good excuse :D
imported_n/a
28-08-2008, 05:20 PM
Yep - this exact weight trend is crap. All sanctioning bodies have weight divisions and you should be prepared to fight within the range. If it is a title then a division is specified so what is with these private arrangements? Does not and cannot happen in boxing - from whom the whole concept of a division was taken from.
Bushi
28-08-2008, 05:55 PM
IMHO,
Example, Middlewight is in round figures to 72.5, but from 69.8 ?
Most middleweight fighters cut to get to it, prime example is the IK Magazine about what fighters do in the 24 hours before a fight...they cut weight up to the weigh in then carb up and put on up to 7-8kg's in some cases.. and the guys naturally in the low 70's would cut to be below 69.8, the next division down.
It's a fact in the sport that the extra KG's can help... that's the sport..
mightyMOP
28-08-2008, 06:16 PM
yep i thinks there should be no catch weights unless for example theres alot of money involed and its for a middle weight to fight a super middle weight in a super fight! eg boom v jwp ..otherwise fight in a weight division!
LXXIX
28-08-2008, 06:22 PM
yeah stuff agreed weights if your a light heavy the weight is 76.3 to 79 kilo so if you are between tose numbers your on weight...to bad if the other guy is 79 and your 77 ,drop a weight division or get over it
mightyMOP
28-08-2008, 06:29 PM
yep i can say my last 2 fights me and my trainers throught it was for 79 get to the weight in and then the other bloke is like nar its 78 mmm get fcuked meanwhile im 78.6 and there complaining grrrrrr!!!!! its like this is light heavy weight aint ever heard of 78 to be Ligh heavy..too bad if your under that loose more weight and fight in a lower division if ur gonna complain
Rockstar
28-08-2008, 11:36 PM
Yes! Blair! I agree - fighters should fight in weight divisions - two fighters going for a title should not come in over the max weight, but are free to weigh in anything under that max weight. That's how it was done...and I don't see why it still shouldn't be done.
v_e_ka
28-08-2008, 11:45 PM

I'm with Blair on this weight buso..WTF is going on!?! I remember ages ago at a show some young bloke from Rons gym gave about 10kgs to fight a guy from OPNG and he didnt care coz he was just there for biffo which is what its all suppose to be about.
I'd have to agree with cales though.. if its a title then it should be spot on weight wise
whats a couple of kilos either way, if youve trained hard then there should be no excuses about fighting .. just get in there and get it on

What am I blaming on weight divisions?
What's a CWB?
I fought at Bronsons (mate, I've been around for a long, long time), does that make me old school or CWB?

whitefly, rockstar is no chump or in the Cotton Wool Brigade,
QuikDraw & Rockstar have both taken fights on short notice & given away weight to help promoters out & have always given a good account for themselves.
most of the Kao Sok fighters have either taken fights on short notice or given away weight.
What have you done?? Care to name any of the fighters you have fought? or are you the key board world chump????

Dour they are both 14 years old for the record! Both have beaten older opponents, this is the first time that Toby has fought anyone that is even close to his age and Phil is in the same situation. The line-up:
Daniel "The Rock" Dawson vs Welcolme Ntshingila(South Africa)
rock wins on points, welcome did extreamly well whe you thought dawson had him he fired right back..
Marc Oakes vs Wes Capper
fight of the night, wes started strong with low kicks while marc stayed busy with the hands ,last round marc was just ahead but 5 seconds to go wes dropped marc and stole the fight via split points
Alex James vs Josh Primmer(NSW)
a big boy is that primmer,he landed a head kick first round witch sent alex down but he got straight back up,but coul;dnt get his rythm in the end and primmer wins on points..these 2 boys are 17 and 18 big futures both of them
Garry Numan vs Nathan Gates(NSW)
it didnt happen, but scrimy jumped in against Numan, they say there was 4 kilo difference but to me looked lik alot more numan looked atleast 6 inches and 7 kilo heavier, but scrimmy being the tough little c@nt he is jumped in...he lost on points but did extreamly well againt the much bigger opponent
Toby Smith vs Phil Tyquin(NSW)
the battle of the kids, started off both boys kicking there way in and grappling, late in the first round toby lands a sweet knee to the solarplexis which sent phil down for the count.toby'boyfury'smith winner ko 1st round..these boys are 14 first time they have fought anyone there own age massive futures especially toby...he even scares me..and talk about a proud father
Dan Skinner vs Andy Mclagen
andy started of strong with alot of right kicks but dan using his height to keep him away with his front kick, they locked up where dan was contantly kneeining then dumping andy.winner dan skinner upd
Yuno Lee vs Luke Hallam
a very controvertial fight ended in round 1 with yuno knocking down his opponent, but only to be disquilified for hitting a downed fighter...he hit luke 3 times in the head while on the ground so it was just, but his corner and fans werent happy at all...cant wait for the rematch
Nathan Sundo vs Dane Pridmore
think nathan won this by tko
Brock Henderson vs Brian Heberle-Eriksen
cant remember,sorry guys
Mark Harrington vs Steve Moy
sa above
Matt Summerille vs Brandon Allan
think brandon allen won by upd
Hayden Williams vs Jarret Lewis
it was a demo so no winners
Kevin Collette vs Travs Pazzone

What was the deal with the kid that fought Toby, the stomping in his wai kru pissed Blair off a bit, he went nuts when it was all over then the kid left the ring without coming to centre ring for the announcement and to get his trophy. Toby is a machine love watching him just destroy opponents.

the wai kru is about respect and the stomping in the corner is not on at all!!!! 1 it makes u look like a fool. 2 it is disrespectfull to all involed in muay thai!!...and 3 if ur gonna do it fcuk off to boxing or kickboxing...we dont want foot stompers in muay thai!!! SHOW SOME RESPECT!!!!
yeh Blair went mental when Toby won, even started up his own "TOBY! TOBY!" chant pumping his fists in the air n hanging onto the ropes haha
Chuck... best mates sister hey... can i hang out with you guys? :P
I don't really find the stomp that disrespectful, to me it's just part of their wai kru to display dominance over their opponent. maybe a lil disrespect is involved but not like a massive "up yours cnts!", more like the bow'n'arrow type displays you see towards the end of some people's ram muay.. sort of a mind game thing. I wouldnt do it personally, coz im not a scary person haha.... but i wouldnt be pissed if someone did it to me, itd just fire me up more i reckon.

22-09-2008, 08:04 PM
my opinion with the stomp some people compare it to the bow n arrow i compare it more to were a fighter digs another fighters grave during the wai kru...and well if ur gonna do it make sure u smash the other person lol and knock em out otherwise dont do it...simple

Get over yourself with the stomp thing. If it fired Toby up then good for him. Watch a few thai's fight and see how many of them stomp. Phil got caught up in the emotion of it all. Toby is a great young kid with talent to burn and to talk about showing no respect towards him is a joke. Why do you think Phil tried to knock his block off for the first round?? Both camps had a great chat out the back after and thats whats good about the sport in general.Toby has a big future and Blair is obviously a proud dad as he should be. The way Blair reacts in the corner is all a part of the mind games for the other fighter and obviously it works!!! I am the same when my son fights!. Looking forward to seeing Toby in the east soon.
Alex James your one tough kid. Josh caught you with a beautiful kick in the first that would have ko'd most. To your credit you fought on strong and it was a pity the crowd didnt stay and watch both you guys fight. Anyway best of luck to you in your future fights and I am sure we will hear alot more of both of you.
Thanks to Blair for bringing us over etc. It was a shame about Nathan blacking out etc and not being well enough to fight. We made the decision based on the health of our fighter which I beleive is the right one as a trainer. I know late pull outs cause dramas for your fight night etc but I would like to make it clear to others on this site that we did reimburse the apprpriate people for Nathans mishap as creditable people do. Blair once again thanks for your hospitality and goodluck in the future.

That demo with Travis from FFC was farkin gold!! best damn demo ever :D:D
Good show all round
I think the foot stomp is great [^] It adds fuel to the fire for the two guys or girls in the ring.. which makes for a more entertaining fight and it also gets the crowd amped up
Dom Devanna use to get right in his opponents face with the arrow shooting and the crowd went wild and thats what there their for.. good fights and good entertainment
The break dancing entrance, hot ring girls, snazzy lights, bit of corner stomping is what makes the fight nights more entertaining and adds a bit of flair :D
and the Rock having a war with his opponent!

The stomp has always been a part of people's Ram Muay - I don't think it is meant to offend, as it meant to issue/accept the challenge of the fight.
Well done to Toby, great win! And bad luck to Aaron S, you put up a great fight with someone obviously heavier and more experienced than you, but still a great performance I thought.

fair enough it flairs up the croud but i cant agree with stomping in the corner when a fighter is ceiling the ropes...i know it fires up a fighter its been done to me and it made me very mad :P...but at the same time its not showing respect to the other fighters trainer's' your fighting the other bloke in the ring...if its gonna be excepted go up to the fighter and stomp infront of him eg like dom devanna...were im coming from is the no respect for the other corner thats all. because at the end of the fight even if u didnt respect the fighter before hand, everyone shake hands u both give each other the respect u both deserve and thats that.
im just laying out my opinion no hard feelings to anyone!!
A big thanks to all involved from Blair & myself. Well done to all the fighters particularly Scrim the legend, neck & neck with Rockstars effort a few years ago. Good work Toby, Nathan, Hayden & Matt, all good young boys. Apology's to Khalid, Bill, Darren, Andrew, respective fighters & Big Rocket for changing the order at the last minute, but Rocks fight had to be on at 10pm as Brad V had to catch a flight.

does anyone know Oakes record? i thought he made Wes look pretty average throughout most of the fight. last time i saw Wes fight he was a machine...
and yeh that venue was wicked, heaps of space!
also did anyone try the hot chips? they were some of the best chips ive had in ages. best Crispness to Mushyness ratio ive seen in a chip in a long time. also great dim sims.
5f 3w 2l plus some mma. Yes he's a good boy. He has beaten Mark Freear, no easy feat, albeit k1 rules.
Dont worry witt, bomber will be back next show, he was unavail this time.

Quickdraw I see your point mate and thats probably how it looks to those who dont know the story. nathan has fought at 63-63.5 several times and has never had an issue making the weight. The fact is that the decision was made on the health of the fighter the night before. He was feeling like crap the next day and did accept the fight with reduced times however Scrimmy had been offered the money we paid back to take the fight so we didnt have to fight so full credit to him for stepping up. Anthony doesnt take offence when making a decision based on the health of his fighter as I am sure Riddler wouldnt. I dont want this to develop into a slanging match about a fighter who pulled out. There were other fights that got cancelled the night before due to age and thats a trainers decision and proably a good one for the health of his fighter. Fully aware that we had been flown over etc and thats why costs were returned. It was a good night of fights and a good experience for our guys.

The corner stomp is no disrespect to the other fighter, the other corner or the drunk guy eating a pie in the 8th row. Take it however you want. The point of it is part of sealing the ring, closing the ring with your own positive energy, then the stomp is optional. As you could see Phil was intimidated by his opponent and his corner and he was trying to psyc himself up and show them he was not scared.
i dont really think that toby's opponent expected it to go all the way,he was goin at toby like he wanted to knock him out in the first round,id say that backfired wouldnt you hahahaha

Well done Phill. You got in there, gave it your best and even better a classy retort.
Phill's foot stomp certainly grabbed my attention and I'm sure it was no way intended to be disrespectful. If anything it only adds to the hype of the bout and it showed he was fired up and raring to go. All credit to him for taking on one of the toughest 14yr olds in the country.

no1 is talking sh!t about phill its jsut the stomp caught many peoples attension and wen i was talkin about the foot stomp i was refering to one of my previous fighter and stating how it offened me...phill footstomp in this thread is being used as an example no hard feelings...phil is a great fighter and good on u to get in the ring at 13 not to many young teenagers let alone adults would have the ballz to get in the ring..expecally getting in there with toby :)

I agree with you Mighty. This has been blown way out of proportion. Everyone is entitled to there opinion and I reckon this is pi#$ funny how long it has gone on for. Anyway good topic for discussion and if thats what everyone remembers about the night over Dawsons war and some good Muay Thai then the stomp served its purpose!!! Looking forward to coming back over in the near future.
Pira - not really, I sort of disgraced myself actually. Lost to 2 chicks. 2 very nerdy chicks. One of them claimed she read like 200 books in one year. But it is my firm belief that the game was rigged in the nerd's favour. They got the word "POSH SPICE" to guess (serously how easy is that, i got it in my mind long before they got it), and me and my team mate got the word "FREE RANGE"... seriously how the hell was a 12 year old supposed to know what a free range was? the clues were outrageous, definitely rigged. Then We played the Nintendo JetSki game and I got to practice out the back before the show and I broke the muhfukin record!! but then when it came to the real showdown they gave me a different guy, fat slow and no agility, and so i lost! i lost the nintendo challenge to a chick! devastated. then afterwards i was throwing around my bouncy ball that i won as a consellaiton prize after the game, and my teacher comes up to me and goes "Adam stop messing around and sit still, just because you lost doesnt mean you need to act like an idiot!"
that cut me deep. and so i took up muay thai, to beat down on that b1tch if i see her again.

WELL I'M A GOOD MATE OF THAT MC AT YOUR SHOWS MR "SICKBOY", HE HAS A NAME U MEATHEADS. IT'S CHRIS KORNER, WHO IS VERY POPULAR, THATS WHY PROMOTORS IN AUTRALIA AND OVERSEAS WANT HIM, I TOLD HIM HOW U WEAK C..TS BAG HIM BUT CANT PUT 2 SENTENCES TOGETHER YOURSELF, I WORKED WITH HIM ON CRAIG'S SHOWS AND DONE STUFF WITH PERTH RADIO WITH HIM. SO STOP BAGGING THE POOR BLOKE HE IS ONLY DOING HIS JOB. DID I MENTION HE HAS BAD ADHD AND TOURETTE SYNDROME BUT STILL MEDIA WANT HIM FOR JOBS, SO GIVE THE GUY A BREAK. ASK YOUR TRAINERS WHY THEY WANT HIM ON THE SHOWS U SPASTICS!! COZ HE'S THE BEST IN WA'
"HARRYS 4EVER"
Chris is a very good mc & he does a great job, same for Bomber who has been our mc since Dalts & myself used to have shows in the early naughties, so we remain faithfull to him & Chris understands this. Most people are unaware of this but Chris flew back here from interstate just to help us out as Bomber was unavailable for our show, that is the kind of man Chris is.
On another note Justin Boylan is also an excellent mc, he was doing it way back in the late 80's, early 90's(he remembers things that happened in fights between the cavemen & the dinosaurs ;)) lol. Alan Pond is also a good mc...
DC.
in the early naughties... im guessing you mean nineties daz?? have you got some fond memories of those times playn up?? :);)
Daz is right - most of the MCs do a good job, especially as since some of them arent even trained to do it. Be a hard job in front of all those people!
Chris is a good guy and has a big passion for the sport. Used to listen to him on the boxing round up show on sport fm......whatever happened to that? Was an easy way to get the latest goss covering the weeks action plus they occasionally had interviews with local fighters which was always interesting.
