Fightcard??????
Hopefully the promoter or an associate will see this thread and fill in the rest of the fight card. The only fights that I am aware of are the ones shown on the poster.

What's Armstrong's trick going to be before this fight? Break a block of ice with his head perhaps? Catch a fly with chopsticks? Solve a Rubiks Cube?

Not sure of the card but will be at the weigh in on Friday with my fighter, so will either get the card then and post it, or try and get it tonight.

Ringside has sold out apparently, so obviously going to be a heap of good fights with popular people!

Oh yeha - there are the 3 on the poster:

Melben V Michael (WKA State Title)
Piotr Clements V Grant Nolan (MMA)
Emma Graham V Rebecca Boone (60kg I think? Catch weight - Emma normally around 57kg and when Rebecca fought one of ours she fought at 63kg)
WILL KING 'HIT' (Team Tetsuko) v Brodie Smith (Kalamunda Kickboxing)
Will keep you posted...

A big contratulations to Melben Alejaga who fought extremely well to win the WKA state title via TKO in the 2nd round. Look forward to seeing you in action again soon.

Just off the top of my head Piotr Clements won via ground and pound and Emma Graham also took out the win. Would have been nice if they handed out the fight card on the night so I post more results.

Congrats to Dan Skinner from Riddlers Gym who absolutely owned his opponent in every aspect. Never would have picked it was his first fight. Unsure of opponents name... but he pretty much gave up in the end due to the pounding Dan gave him. Remember the Flip punch flurry, but instead of punches - Knees, half way through the 3rd. Great to watch.

Congrats to Melben, I think that's the first strap for the AMMA gym too, so well done to them as well.

LXXIX, FFC & Kao sok have fought on these shows in the past, Clint Howson fought dave Hoy, Mark oats fought Richard (unsure surename),
But I think you will find most of the other gyms fighter have had alot more fights than the guys & girls coming out of the BJC gyms, the are a few out of KKB that have racked up a few but htats about it, novices have to start some where & need to be matched accordingly,

how did thompson get a shot at the title anyway. His record is not the best. Surely melben deserved a better opponent then him.

WD40
10-08-2008, 05:40 PM
I think you mean Armstrong Kingy. But yes before last nights bout his record stood at 2 wins 5 losses. The other three names worthy of a title shot in this weight division are Rocket Rick (Bando), Kane Henderson (WATBC) and Josh Thompson (Henrys Gym) who Melben has drawn with twice already on the Supremacy shows. It's my understanding that injuries prevented these three fighters from having a crack which left the door open for Armstrong. He ending up leaving the building in a wheelchair.

10-08-2008, 10:02 PM
I wanna see Rick and Melben go at it, that'd be a good one to watch.
What ever happened to Petrochi? does he still fight?

WD40
10-08-2008, 11:03 PM
Couldn't agree with you more Witt. Melben and Rick would be an excellent match up. Perhaps even worthy enough to fight for the WMC state title if its currently vacant.

witt
10-08-2008, 11:28 PM
I think it is vacant at the moment at that weight, dont quote me though. What's Melbens record now Wes?

WD40
11-08-2008, 01:41 AM
It now stands at 5 wins 2 draws and 1 loss. The MC read out some bogus figures on the night though just to confuse a few people.

Tetsuko
11-08-2008, 12:19 PM
Just regarding the MC - he read out what the trainers wrote down regarding their fighters records...he's a nice guy who was helping out for free, so let's not bag him.

And yes, little things like fight cards etc would be nice, but as v e ka said, novices have to start somewhere and 40 fighters got a chance to give it a bash on Sat night - many of them for the first time. There were boys from Riddlers, WA Thai Boxing, Anvil Allens, AMMA, Typhoon to name a few and none of these are BJC gyms.

I personally am at every show in WA and I think its great that we have a range from little gym based shows, to bigger gym shows, to shows like last night that get novices up in a proper fight show situation, to the Supremacy Shows which we all know are the pinnacle in WA...but until all these other up and coming fighters get a chance to rack up a few wins, then they aren't going to make it to Supremacy are they?

For the record - yes I am from a BJC gym, but as stated previously I support all the shows in WA (usually as a Ref and Judge) but I too had a first timer fight Sat night, and he did me, his table of mates and family and the rest of the crew from our gym, very proud!

WILL KING 'HIT' came out with a UPD win after one of the most entertaining fights of the night (I think at the start he was inspired by Piotr Clements speech about MMA fights...sorry about those throws Brodie and Muz!)but just to clarify, out the back we were warming up near Peter Boyd and the WA Thai Boxing crew and even though they only had one fighter on, who finished heaps earlier than ours, they still stayed to support the show and our fighter.... which just goes to show that as much as we are all rivals IN the ring, everyone in WA is supportive of each other out of the ring..

Anyway that's my two cents worth because I had fun Sat night - no expectation that it would be a 'Supremacy' show, but it was entertaining none the less.

There should be heaps more smaller events for guys and girls starting out to get some experience.

Big congrats to Melben for earning the title and much respect to Armstrong for continuing to fight through injury - seeing a fighter carried out is never nice but he can be proud of his showing in my opinion. I dont mind these "grass roots" type shows at all, there was a great vibe in the crowd with all the fight fans catching up and cheering on their favourites. In fact I prefer a 20 fight card rather than 12 with entertainment fillers. There was a great moment after the fight where the AMMA crew gathered out back to congratulate Melben on his victory I hope he soaked it up coz it sure made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

witt
11-08-2008, 05:37 PM
Yeh I think I'll be havin a crack, got a bit of a niggling injury at the moment so gonna train for it and just see how it all goes. all things being equal hopefully ill be right to jump in.
what about you, gonna try get matched up? :D

Think im still about a month away from getting over this slashed achillies (damn dirt bikes). I'll be jumping on whatever show I can before the year is out and then aiming for Roads 4 early next year. Hope all goes well for you... was impressed with your last fight at John Forrest.

brett dalton & darren C used to put on alot of padded amm show to get people used to being in the ring but dont do it any more, I believe Justin Boylin (sorry if spelling is incorrect) is starting to do some,

WD40
12-08-2008, 12:11 PM
I hear Darren C and Blair Smith are putting a show together in October. Not sure if it's amature based or more for the experienced. Hopefully a bit of both.

Tetsuko
12-08-2008, 03:18 PM
I think Daz and Blairs show will be a bit more full on than 'amateur' level - but that being said, they may have few 'beginners' on as well...good on them anyway.

Yes, Justin Boylan and Murray McKechnie have run a few small gym shows in their gyms - so again a stress level below 'Road to Supremacy'. If you look at it, quite a good progression now if people are fully padded in a small gym environment, then move to shinpads for a few fights at a 'bigger' gym/hall show and/or a show like the WKA one which had the noise and size but a bit less presssure, then the main ones like Supremacy and Battle Colossal etc etc (talking WA here)

I mean, 20 fights on a card where most are beginners is a huge improvement over 8-10 fights of the same people fighting each other...there has been an explosion of new people wanting to give it a go because of these 'levels' so I personally think thats great for the sport...not to mention all the new spectators and potential students coming to watch their mates...

Hey WD40 Blair and Darren have just found a venue in the Canningvale area. Their aim is too open the sport to the south of the river community. The show as far as I know will be staring Daniel 'THE ROCK' Dawson as the main event. Toby Smith will be taking on Phil Tyquin from NSW which will be a cracker. Both of these boys are possibly the hottest 14 year old fighters in the country. Also from NSW Josh Primer will be taking on Alex James from Kao Sok, both are very strong up and coming fighters. The show will be held on September 20 with a full under card including a super heavy weight bout and a female bout. As far as i know they have gone the full lengths to match up good hard even fights! which is their aim and policy as Blair HATES mismatches. More details will be available soon.

Congratulation to Melben on a well deserved TKO, he fought good, to bad he didnt get a chance to use all his new combos he had been training, save them for next time!!! Was also great to see everyone there from AMMA showing their support, it really was an amazing atmosphere out the back after the fight!

technically its 4F 4W coz aparently the last fight counts as a win even though it didnt really get a chance to finish, but i dont back that coz it wasnt really a win that I earned from hard work. but yeh not including that last bout its 3F 3W.
Roads is on Sept 6... bout 3 weeks away I think. fingers crossed i get a match, def wanna get back in there asap before Exams come knocking.
