Poor Bob

He is a beautiful guy and probably the most intelligent fighter I've ever met, but unfortunately he has had that many media and commercial commitments that his training has been neglected and it showed. They flew southpaw Martin Holm from Sweden to spar Bob for the Mirko fight but due to media and commercial commitments Bob could only have ONE sparring session with Holm - hardly enough to prepare for someone the skill of Mirko.

Bob CAN take a punch though, he stood up to Ernesto's best shots in two fights... but Mirko caught him sweetly.

BTW... looks like MARK HUNT will fight GARY GOODRIDGE at the K-1 USA in Las Vegas on May 2.

Cheers

Michael, that is crap, Sapp got destroyed by Hoost, even though Sapp won. He could not continue and that is how Hoost got to fight in the next round and then the final.

Ummmm Sapp got destroyed by Hoost? Wasn't it Hoost who got stopped not once but twice? And especially first time Hoost was beaten from pillar to post, busted open, dropped twice in the first round.

madjack

the statement was that Sapp can take a punch, I say he can't. even after winning against Hoost, he could not continue, the guys a joke and to say he is unfortunate because he is a nice bloke is just stupid.

Its great to be a nice guy - better than being an arrogant prick, but Sapp has no fighting skills whatsoever - he simply punches left and rights!! Michael I dont understand your comment about him being an intelligent fighter?
The first fight against Hoost - Hoost's own arrogance and stupidity made him lose that fight - all he had to do was to continue to chop his leg, the freakoid couldn't move, but he chose to try knock him out, It seems that for K1 levels, it was stopped prematurely anyway
I agree with Madjack - he cannot take a properly connecting punch like the pro's and it will take him years for his body to get conditioned for that type of punishment
One can only imagine the type of horse steriods the freakoid is taking - having him as one of your steriod customers would be the equivalent of being the only supplier of food to the entire American army!!

For someone who has had only FIVE fights in K-1 (Abidi, Nakasao, Hoost, Hoost and Mirko) he hasn't done too bad. Sure he hasn't thrown a kick yet, which is a joke, but he beat the K-1 champion TWICE and took some of Hoost's best shots - I havent seen many people, especially not rookies, take so many head shots and leg kicks from Hoost and still keep going. Mirko caught him sweetly, softened him with a liver shot and then KO'd him with a straight left on the orbital bone. At the end of the day it needs to be put into perspective: if any other rookie had come in and beaten Hoost twice in his third and fourth fights, people would be amazed. The only people who have ever beaten Ernesto twice in his career and who Ernesto hasn't avenged are Branko Cikatic and Rob Kaman - - and now Bob Sapp.
Mirko is flaunting himself now as the hottest thing in K-1 because he did what Hoost and Abidi couldn't and KO'd big Bob... but as Bob said after the fight... "what's the big deal? I've had four fights before this, two of them against the same person. So what if you beat me? I'm more impressed if you beat Ray or Mark or Jerome, not beating someone with four fights."
Jack, there is no doubt Sapp needs to skill up that that his fight style is laughable... hopefully in time he will skill up. Heck, he hasn't even been in K-1 a whole year. It is a pity though that because of his size and charisma and larger than lifeness he is getting more K-1 gigs that anyone else, meaning that a lot of the world's best regional K-1 fighters who try so hard (Suttie, Watt for example) dont get a run and the likes of THE BEAST and TOM ERIKKSON do.
That I dont agree with.

So what did you gurus think of this one? Very average in my humble opinion. OK but not great. Quite funny how Schiavello and Tarik kept acting like they were there. That always makes me laugh in commentary, call my sense of humour weird if you like.

But they were there

Nah they weren't. Well Tarik was (must be butt into every shot? lol!) but not to commentate.

"Excuse me Michael, I am going up to the ring to say congratulations"

Here we go again, negative posts. Take the
dirt away from your eyes and
watch it again. Tarik stepped in the ring and you see him congratulating Ray
and the team when the exit to the dressing rooms. Oh, and he also chats to Mirko Cro Crop. Get
it right loser. They WERE there.
I think you are getting paranoid about those little kiddies leaking out..

Servant
18-04-2003, 04:28 AM
Yawn. Pay closer attenton sunshine. Tarik was there, not to commentate. Schiavello wasn't commentating live so I'm guessing he wasn't there at all. Not that it matters I just find it funny whn commentators pretend they are calling the fight live. No negativity, quite the judge as werent you the one on a rant about what a joke Paul Briggs is?

MuayThaiGuy
18-04-2003, 10:15 AM
Because I think briggs fought a low grade
fighter makes me wrong in all other issues?
Is there a wrong/or right? Its my opinion about Briggs
but I didnt see yours. But for the live commentating, there is a right or wrong answer.. What makes you
say its was dubbed over the top if it? my nicks MASK not YAWN (lol)

Servant

I was yawning from boredom. As for what makes me right, when a show is edited (and this one heavily was) yet the commentary continues straight THROUGH an edit (a jump in time) its a fairly reliable indication!

Sash, I was thinking the same thing when I was watching it. Better job this time than the last though. And what's the big deal anyway. As long as most people beleive it, it's ok. Better than watching it with Japanese commentary. Most people believed it so let it be.

JKLA

Thats a good point. Better than watching Japanese commentrary, also if Schiavells commentated in an ordinary manner, making it clear and obvious to all viewers his comments are not live, I am sure he would receive more disapproving posts on this board than him trying to make it look live.

Remy thank you for having some common sense. A rare commodity! No it's not a big deal I merely pointed it out and said I found it humorous how they kept acting like they were there when they obviously werent. No biggie! Young Mask (and gee I wonder who is behind that mask...) made a fuss out of it, not me! Mask if you taped it, watch it again. If you can't see what we are talking about you need to sharpen up son! Drink a Turkish coffee!

Hey guys , who really cares if its live commentary ot not , atleast you get it in english.

Seeing i live in Japan , i get to watch it on same day as the event ( live if i have pay tv ) on regular tv and i have no choice but to listen to the japanese commentary

Its actually pretty good , but i have to get my wifey to translate for me sometimes , im not fluent in japanese

Personally , id rather listen to the japanese commentary or turn the volume off , i have watched on tape a few kickboxing shows with commentary and i find it bloody annoying when the commentators woffle on with so much bull**** , worse than the japanese
( no offense Michael , just my opinion )

Cheers
Drew
