Hi everyone
Just got back into Melbourne from Auckland where I was for the K-1 New Zealand vs K-1 Croatia super show promoted by Dixon McIver.
ABout 3500 fans packed the ASB Stadium, including a HUGE contingent of vocal Croatians for what was the FIRST EVER international K-1 event in which teams from TWO different K-1 countries have taken each other on.
Croatian K-1 honcho Orsat Zovko organised a super strong Croatian team while Dixon McIver pieced together an awesome Kiwi team of Ron Sefo, Doug Viney, Andrew Peck, Jason Suttie and Jordan Tai.
Results:
Ron Sefo defeated Ivica Perkovic by decision - Sefo looked excellent in a gutsy battle in which both men threw powerhouse shots
Gordan Jukic defeated Doug Viney by knockout - this, quite simple, was one of THE BEST K-1 FIGHTS YOU'D EVER WANT TO SEE... Viney knocked down Jukic twice in the first round, Jukic rallied back of knocked down Viney twice in the second - it was awesome.
Josip Brodrozic KO'd Andrew Peck - Andrew Peck was KO'd inside a minute by a GIANT croatian named Brodrozic. Brod is 6'6" and 125kg... there could be some interesting developments with Brod as he is an Australian / Croatian so maybe we'll see him in the K-1 Oceania. Stay tuned - the guy is massive and disposed of Peck easily.
Jordan Tai and Ante Bilic drew - Bilic is wicked, he is the current Cro Max Champion and Max European runner-up... Tai was in fne form, it was a ripper K-1 Max fight and I cant wait for the rematch.
Jason Suttie KO'd Daniel Mahold - Suttie looked the goods in this tough fighting KOing Mahold in the third with a rib kick.
All in all- A TIE -- TWO WINS EACH and ONE DRAW.
We will be heading to SPLIT in CROATIA in September for the return leg, in which Suttie will take on Sean Puljak in the main event.
Also of note, we commentated this fight for TV2 which is the biggest commercial station in New Zealand. Yes, this is the first time K-1 had been on commercial TV in NZ!! TV2 is the entertainment channel of NZ much like, say, Channel 10 here with shows such as Friends, Sopranos, Neighbours, etc etc... this was a MAJOR COUP for Dixon McIver to get the event on commercial TV.
All in all an awesome show... if you ever get the chance to go to one of Dixon's events in NZ make sure you do - he does some of the best shows outside of Japan.
Cheers
