De La Hoya rematch agreed
April 11, 2003
THE revenge match between American boxers Oscar de la Hoya, the WBC and WBA super-welterweight champion, and Shane Mosley, has been agreed for September 13 in Las Vegas.
Promoter Bob Arum said the Vegas MGM Grand had outbid the Los Angeles Lakers' Staples Center, where the two first clashed in June, 2000.
Organisers claimed ticket sales alone would generate up to $US10 million ($16.5 million).
De la Hoya is determined to avenge one of his two career losses against Mosley, who beat the "Golden Boy" for the welterweight crown in 2000.
De la Hoya (35-2, 28 KOs) has not fought since September, when he recorded an 11th-round technical knockout of fellow Mexican-American Fernando Vargas to capture the WBA belt.
In the meantime he will defend his WBC and WBA belts on May 3 against former champion Yory Boy Campas of Mexico.
