View Full Version : Matt Douglas opponent no show!

We are very disappointed with Matt's opponent Choc, who simply did not show up to the scheduled fight last night. Just a phone call would have been nice to let the Promoter and fighter know he wasn't coming. Matt was ready to go, hands wrapped etc. and no opponent.
WHAT THE F***!

This seems to happen alot in NSW,guys like to talk themselves up and then they pull out or dont show up,piss weak. Its just as much the trainers fault as the fighters.

Well i hope nothing happen to him
Since he couldnt even call
Yeh really felt for big Matt yesterday. It's been hard for him to get opponents I heard and when he finally does, he gets a late pullout... Was looking forward to watching the big boys bang as well... Goodluck finding some match ups for him..

And isn't Choc from the promoters own Gym ???
Moher "CHOC" Mansour 110kg /TEAM HACKSAW BONDI BEACH
v's
Matt Douglas / Bondi Blades gym
Also to Sor.Jaiphet fighters from Melbourne ended up not fighting as no opponents, such a shame when these 3 guys do all the HARD yards, travel, make weight only to be let down..

And you guys are surprised coming from a hacksaw show? This was also the same promoter who cancelled an entire show just 2 days prior to fightnight by sending people an sms.

I agree Voice
This show was in the making since May 07
Surely thats enough time to get a decent show together.

so the fighter was from the promoters gym....... did the promoter give an explanation as to why his fighter did not turn up.................. unless there was a good reason, pretty much a weak as piss effort....

Voice,
Darren ( Hacksaw) has done a great job with putting together two shows since he has come bak to the WMC and instead of critizing him u should b supporting him. If he doesnt put on the shows then fighters like myself wouldnt b able to fight on there home soil often enough.

The more WMC promoters the better.
Especially in Melb & Syd.

well great...run a show to the standards of the WMC (like JNI does in Sydney) and you won`t get any complaints.
Maybe if your opponent didn`t show then you`d be singing a different song. And if a hacksaw show last year wasn`t cancelled via SMS a couple days prior then I am wrong and will apologise.
This sort of stuff does nothing to abate the suspicion that many fans and fighters have of promoters these days.
There needs to be an explanation to the fans and fighters, and promptly.
Awesome

I can understand the disappointment associated with a very late pull out however on the other hand sometimes sh!t happens. I remmeber travelling form Sydney to Gosford for a fight night and it was belting down rain. The traffic on the way up was held up by a couple of car crashes. When I eventually got there we found that half the fights were canned as the poor barstards in the car crashes were several of the fighters... Not saying that's the case here but maybe you should talk to the fighter / their trainer. There could be a legitimate reason for the last minute no-show.

Well in response to the person who calls himself the voice
who writes comments on people who he doesn't know
I'm a promoter who gives 100% and at the time when i cancelled that show
My father had just suffered a stroke and i was going through a break up.
My head wasn't in the right state of mind and i couldn't give 100%
People can mock me if they want but at the end of the day i have a winning formula for my promotions
I've made NSW history by holding the first FTR womens bout also the first muay thai 4 man eliminators and no one can take that away from me.

I'm really glad you spoke up at last Darren.
I found you to be a fun promoter who really does look after his fighters and does put in 100% to make the show go on.
Sydney is a big international city and there are not enough promoters or events to go around.
It would be a loss if you were to give up.

ok yep, so why did opponents do a no show from THIS event, especially your own guy? Many people looking for an explanation.

I think you might find Voice has been a $$$ supporter of other events in NSW, perhaps NOT "THE" Promoter but certainly "contributed" to putting on shows..

We ALL know promoting is a VERY TOUGH business.... BUT a fair question to ask..2 Victorians, which would have cost Hacksaw $$$ to fly up and accomodate didn't get to fight, INCLUDING what was to be the MAIN EVENT, not to mention the NSW showdown..

Why is it that some “Internet Warriors” have jumped at the chance to have a go at Darren??? The most opinionated ones always seem to be the ones who have had a sniff of liniment and probably never even kicked or held a pad. Or maybe they just came back from 2 weeks training in Thailand. Whoopy-doo!
As I said in my original post,
“Just a phone call would have been nice to let the Promoter and fighter know he wasn't coming.”
So obviously Darren, Alex Tui, Matt and I were all in the same boat and just a little disappointed that we simply did not get to fight.
(Oh yeah and ECKS was disappointed too!)
As Scottya quoted,
“Well i hope nothing happen to him Since he couldn’t even call”
I too hope that nothing serious has happened to Matt’s opponent.
We are talking about Am Thaiboxing (2 fights) which sometimes happens on Am shows. If Pro there would have been a contract and we would have got paid either way. All we wanted was 2 cases of beer to share with Matt’s friends who showed up and he willingly obliged. So cheers Darren!
Also to clarify, Darren did warn us early on the day of the fight that he had not heard from his fighter and was worried about a “no show” and does not want to stuff us around. He phoned us later in the day and informed us that he has had contact with the fighter and he has assured him that he will be there. I could not imagine the stress he would have been under on the night.
We will be supporting Hacksaw promotions in the future as we have from day one. I am sure that CKO, Battleaxe, Lucy Tui, Taipan, Jabout, Sor. Jaiphet etc etc etc will still be there in support of Darren too.
Success breeds jealousy so the more jealous “Internet Warriors” on here the better!

very surprised at your last comment Steve, especially when you inflamed the situation initially with the comment quoted above (you could have made that phone call rather than starting a thread).
Then we hear 2 Vics had the same situation occur.
So is the paying public not entitled to learn what happened? While we all hope there was no misfortune causing the incidents, 3 no-shows seems strange.
This is a forum where people want to promote their shows free of charge and which discussion can be made afterwards...good and bad.
Crying `internet warrior` whenever someone makes an unpopular claim is both ludicrous and misinformed. And indeed running a gym or having a few fights doesn`t automatically produce a 200 IQ where one should feel above answering questions for those who at the end of the day support those events and promoters.
There have been many threads on this forum disputing the integrity and supposed profiteering of some promoters (which is usually misinformed) so surely in the interests of maintaining good faith with the public it is fair to ask what happened?

Surely no one can blame the promoter for fighters not turning up, even if it is his own. You can't expect a trainer to kidnap a fighter and make them fight.
However, I do think their opponents deserve an explanantion and an apology from the absent tyre kickers at the very least..

No the promoter cant be blame for fighters not turning up
But if you paid the few extra dollar to get a team mate or send Neal around im sure they would show up or have reason why they didnt show ?
Was the guy the first fight of the show 2,6............ ?

The paying public had a great night as so many of them waited after the show had finished just to let me know how much of a great time they had.
So many well wishes you have no idea.
voice
i think it wouldn't even matter what the reason was you wouldn't be happy anyway i know this and so does everybody else.
I got the fighters in the ring just to let the the paying customers "that you care so much about" that there opponents had pulled out on them also i gave them all trophies as a good will gesture for the stuff around ,
no body was more up set more then me as i paid for flight tickets accommodation food money and also paid fighters to fight that didn't even fight
i still paid them because i had told them i would
"so please dont talk to me about feeling disappointed".
Maybe you should be talking to the fight fans that keep coming to my promotions and you would see that a great time was had by all.
VOICE you should read what the trainers , fighters , and my loyal fans write time after time about my fight nights and you will see that you voice , are a lone voice and that your B.S comments are NOT IN TOUCH WITH REALITY.[:o)][:o)][:o)]
So to lone voice get a life sport and dont be a hater - as at least i'm building up the sport here in NSW WHAT ARE YOU DOING [?][?][?][:0][:0][:0]

well at least you felt compelled to reply Hacksaw so that is something.
I think there are others who have been building up the sport more and for longer in NSW who you don`t acknowledge (and I have done my small part as Steve will no doubt know), but you are right, your efforts are helping build the muay thai franchise and that is a good thing so hopefully this continues. It is just sometimes things need to be explained.

Very true, at the end of the day, all that matters is that the loyal fans have a good night and the sports gets more coverage.
Steve fully respect your comments.
Darren keep up the good work and I look forward to the next event, which looks to be an awesome clash of top fighters.
