View Full Version : When words turn into action...

Hey guys.. this is Newblokes posting here. And for once here's a serious one.

I'm sure I've spoken to most of you guys here and there over this forum. Due to my social life away from the web - sometimes I'm invisible for a while.. but try and keep my posts up when I can.

My point of this post is just to identify how small we are in this world. So read on!

After the dramas I've seen in kickboxing forums in the past couple of years - i.e. Turks vs Greeks.. Pro + Anti (repeatedly!), Ozkan lovers + haters, State vs State 'discussions', and recently the Janer's mobile # episode obviously we are avid kickboxing followers - evident some are even happy to get physical over a topic on the web!

But less than twelve hours ago, George Bush gave a speech that his armed forces will be invading Iraq with his allies.

This to me is much bigger than any sport, hobby or past-time.

Within 2-3 days; one of, or perhaps the biggest air strike in war history will be over Iraq's borders with obvious bloodshed and repercussions. And apparently, this will only be just the beginning. Hundreds of thousands of infantry soldiers from both sides are also on the ready for the ground attack, complimented with tanks and armoury.

Australia has criticized John Howard for accepting to offer SAS troops for military service, and peace protests are if not already organised - will soon be seen across many nations.

My point here is not a history lesson of another Desert Storm but it is another.

Guys - we are here for a reason, to have fun, learn, discuss, and socialise about the great ring sports. Not to go full on and believe that if our Mother dated a Greek in high school thiry years ago.. we then should hate Turks.

Sure I'm a sinner and have posted something in the past then got a mouthful for, or perhaps gave a mouthful back! But I feel pretty small right now when the press splatter through every medium what is quite imminent overseas. To me, it’s pretty scary what will happen to innocent people, this country's security and the men on duty.

I know there is an ethnic community here and that to me is what makes kickboxing more interesting. But when I've seen past rivalries over past Government issues probably not totally understood - that's gone way too far over a sport.

So here we are not just throwing words at each other over the net.. but several world leaders are putting words into action – with perhaps devastating results on a mass population.

Yep, I’m not so tough behind this keyboard now.

I appreciate your feedback if you have read this far, as it’s something I thought I’d add to this forum.

Newblokes.

Oh and one more thing, don’t think I'm an anti violent /
physical peace protester trying to send a blind message of love -

As I'm a part of the Australian Army Reserves too.

Great post man.
Get your point and totally agree. My own sister was recruited to the Navy 2 months ago. She worked physically and mentally everyday for 3 months before her induction and she passed in the top 5% in the country. She has entered an elite recruit section and in years to come will guide our navy ships accross the world. All of this from someone who 12 months ago was on centrelink and going absolutely no-where.

She has done all of this and then yesterday whilst still at recruit training she was told " Reguardless of the Iraq situation she will be at some form of war in 90 days" whether it be iraq, north korea or some sort of clean up mission. Now guys i play the tough guy on the outside but when i heard this news i broke down in tears. My little sis could be off to fight in a war while her big bro sits at home waiting for her to come home safely. However when i spoke to her last night i was put at ease. She told me how she nor any of the other people at her school want to fight anyone! reguardless of race, religion or otherwise. But if they have to they will fight together as aussies. Like aussies have in the past and like aussies will in the future.

Now sheis in a multi-cultural class of many races and religions, so if they can find it in their hearts to bond so quickly then why do we continue to slur other races in this sport of Kickboxing? Guys i will make it clear i am a true blue aussie! my grandparents were even born in the same town as i was, but i will never be racist or ridicule anyone because of their beliefs. One of the best things for me to watch is people like Stan, Jenk and Gurkan all carrying out the flags of the nation they derive from. These guys are all graet for the sport and are merely paying respect to their heritage. If we can respect that and applaud that as often as we do- then no wonder we live in the best nation on earth!

Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi
