View Full Version : PAUL SLOWINSKI WINS WMC HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
Congrats to Paul Slowinski on his win against tough Askhae Gorbakov from Kazakhstan last night in Adelaide. What an action packed night it was promoted by Ethan Shepp with a solid fight card of 12 fights, together with Thailand vs Adelaide.

Wow, that's pretty impressive.
It would be really cool if we could get some quicktime movie fight highlights on the web (if anyone has a digi video it's pretty easy to do). I'm really interested in seeing Paul as a heavywieght.

Just out of curiosity, how many governing bodies are there in kickboxing?

kpj746, there are too many governing bodies to count, but to me, there's only 4: WKA, ISKA,WMC and K-1. I'm old school, hehe, that how I was brought up (Thanks IK). Wow, that's so good that Paul Slowinski's a legitimate Heavyweight muay thai champ. Wonder if he'll put the belt on the line if he fights Gurkan Ozkan under full thai rules?? Awesome. Congratulations to everybody involved in that promotion. Hope they show it on fox sports, I'm in QLD :)

Hi guys
No this won't be on FOX SPORTS.
Yes, there are TOO many sanctioning bodies in kickboxing, it is ridiculous. We did a poll on AX once and asked how many sanctioning bodies people knew of in kickboxing -- the final list was over 50!
Off the top of my head... WKA, ISKA, WKBL, WPKL, WMC, IKF, PKA, WAKO, WMTA, IFMTA, KICK, UTC, IKBF... it's just crazy.
For my liking I respect titlists from WKA (though they seem pretty inactive these days and their ratings are outdated), ISKA (been very active), WMC (these guys are doing a GREAT job unifying Muay Thai) and K-1 (if anyone asks me who is the heavyweight world champion of kickboxing, I always say it's the guy who holds the K-1 world title -- atm Ernesto Hoost). Mind you there are other worthy title holders in different sanctioning bodies who have fought the best and won their titles against the best... but there are also guys from neighbouring suburbs in Sydney and Melbourne who have fought each other for Dodgey Brothers world titles and this is just ridiculous. Unfortunately due to their being SO many sanctioning bodies, I think being a world kickboxing champion has lost a lot of the gloss it used to have.

PS: Congratulations to PAUL SLOWINSKI... not so much for winning a world title (WMC, again, credible opponent) but for making his heavyweight step up successfully.
Now it's onto the K-1 Oceania scene for THE STING and many people - including myself and the Hammer - are mooting big things for Slowinski.
Congrats to him and his trainer, Alan Wong.

Everybody on here had forgotten something important about the WMC. The other bodies are a mixture of Kickboxing, Shootboxing and the list goes on......However the WMC is only concerned with Muaythai and nothing else. The WMC will not co-sanction with any other bodies because it does not want the public to be confused. Muaythai is just that and it is not kickboxing with knees thrown in.
