Can anyone tell me about Dale Westerman?
I have not been around the sport for a great deal of time( seeings i am only 21), but i hear dale was a fairly handy fighter. I have seen him around our town lately on the odd occasion and i recognised an old pic of him, i heard he was a pretty descent fighter. Could someone fill me in on Dale it would be nice to see how good he actually was.
P.S. it may be worth telling some of the local bogans to refrain from their usual big mouth episodes. lol.

dale was a very technical fighter. he fought gurkan twice and in both fights gave gurkan a good run(losing on both occasions). he also fought ian jacobs twice. actually his first pro kickboxing fight was against ian, there second fight was with knees. he ducked no one and fought all the big names in his time. later on he went on to win two world titles and when he got robbed in switzland he finally hung up his gloves
opponents he has fought :
gurkan ozkan (twice)
ian jacobs (twice)
sam soliman (twice 1 boxing, 1 kb)
mark tyson
tei kin
paul briggs
denver matthews
warren elsom
marino deflorin (twice)

I have some pictures of Dale doing a comedy performance with Guido Hatsis from a boxing show last year.
I'll see if I can dig them up and show you guys.
Dale's skip impersonation was pretty whacky.
Hey Ghost,
The fight in Switzerland where he retired,
Was that before or after he fought Elson on Judgement day II ?
The reason I ask is because he said he was retiring on that show after his loss to Elson.

"Diamond" Dale Westerman was one of the stars of kickboxing in the 1990s... he was good value for money and one of the bravest and gutsiest fighters around. He was technical, yes, but he also packed a lot of power and could take a knock.
For a while he and Louie "Ice" Iosifids (probably one of the greatest talents in Australian kickboxing history to not have gone further) headlined shows together -- DIAMOND and ICE as we once called them in IK magazine.
Some of the memories of Dale were his two fights against Ian Jacobs, one of which was a main event Blitz promotion at the Radisson in which Jacobs pulled off one of the all-time greatest KOs that knocked Westerman into next week! It was pretty sickening.
He fought Gurkan Ozkan, defeated Sam Soliman in a cracker for the Commonwealth Super Welter title, had a corker of a 12 round war over England's Eval Denton (Dale's most impressive technical display), defeated Glen Baragry, annihilated Denver Matthews, beat Mark "Sooty" Tyson by KO at the Radisson and also defeated the great Alex Tui. His second fight against Jacobs -- a Revenge match in Qld -- went the distance and saw Jacobs perform his best ever. He also took on the best OS including Taiei Kin (at Kin's peak) and Marino DeFlorin (at DeFlorin's peak) twice, beating him when they fought in Sydney.
Dale also won the SUPERFIGHT 1 eight man tournament in Perth when he beat Glen Baragry and Vince Parkes (Soliman couldn't compete in the final due to injury).
Dale was also an excellent amateur boxer winning some titles. He remains one of the favourite fighting sons of Melbourne's Eastern suburbs, trained by Bryce Birtwistle.
Good bloke and a real personality.
Hope this helps :)

Oops sorry forgot to clarify that... hey Ghost GREAT info mate, well done... FYI Dale retired after the Warren Elson fight at Judgement Day. For me that was a sad, sad moment. I mean Elson is one of my fave fighters, he was SO dominant back then (still is but we just dont see him enough) and he TOTALLY dominated Dale -- it was case of old school vs new school and new school being WAY TOO COOL for SCHOOL. Dale was such a character. Would have loved to see him go out on a win :)

The last time I saw Dale was at the Kiss concert, where he jumped on the stage and huged Gene Simmons.. Gene was cool about it and said,
"Tell you name to the crowd!" Dale answered " I am Diamond Dale"

I thought Dale retired after fighting Warren Elson.. Anyway, he was training with a friend at the Blitz Centre saturday avo, an hour before the Stefan Fox seminar(which was great by the way), and he still looks good!!

He was a great fighter who fought everyone, including myself. He deserves all the accolades accept when he king hit me at the start of the belt.I don t understand y he was on his way up non the less karma took care of that.Hence he got K.O.D by Ian Jacobs in his next belt.

I fought Dale on a Tarik Solak show ,following that I left the next day 2 fight Makoto Ohe in Japan .He turned out to be the reigning ISKA Jnr Welter Weight Muay Thai Champion.I travelled with IRON Mark Tyson and he ended fighting a thai world champion,i thought i had it tough my mate did himself proud. On Dale he was a good fighter, but as a sportsman he really suxd.Anyway that sly shot he threw that nite reminds me of another in famous moment in sport were Chappell bowled under arm in a cricket match against NZ.Non the less we ll meet again and I have no doubt ill square the ledger,in or out of the ring.

if it was the westerman Vs matthews fight the punch was thrown when the 2 fighters were going to touch gloves. dale went to touch gloves with his left hand and hit matthews with his right

I can also recall a similar situation at the K1 MAX Oceania.
Brad " Dodge " Hull went to touch gloves with Alex Tui and drove in a front kick instead of touching gloves. The crowd straight away wanted him to lose from that point.
At least he lived up to his ring name the " Dodge " <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
