Its been a couple of weeks since it happened and I havent read anything about it yet so...
What does everyone think about the butterfly punch Gurkan Ozkan threw at Stan. No doubt some people ringside would have blinked and missed it. Ozkan threw the punch just as Tarik Solak was talking about it to Hammer and Michael on main event. I have never seen any other fighter try it before and had a bit of a chuckle when it happened :)

Jack, I didn't see the one at no respect, but have seen him use it a couple of times before.

I don't know, but it didn't realy seem to do as much as one of Gurkan's overhands does.

haha WHat a pisser... he done it also against ARthur Tsokonas and got him well with it. However stan was on to it quick and nailed him!

Soon enough, gurkan will sting someone with it. Its not as if you train to recieve a butterfly!

Janer how can you get stung with it? That is the most piss weak attempt at a punch I have ever seen.

Oh man, you guys didn't have to sit there on national TV and commentate it the first time he did it!

Hammer and I sat there and as usual I'm going 100mph on the microphone then all of a sudden Gurkan does, well, this weird-ass punch!

We try not to laugh because its actually quite funny and we didn't know what the heck it was called so I called it a 'butterfly punch' because it sorta looks like a butterfly stroke in swimming!

Well, now everyone is calling it a butterfly punch so it's kinda stuck! Even last show in No Respect we were commentating with Tarik and Tarik is saying "I wonder if Gurkan will use his butterfly punch" (tongue in cheek)... a few rounds later - BANG - there it is, the butterfly punch in all its glory. I swear I almost had to hit the mute button as Tarik, Mark and I (and even my girlfriend sitting next to me who was waiting for it) couldn't stop laughing.

I love that punch... it's a crack up... imagine if he ever KOs someone with it... I think I'd lose my voice... moreso, imagine being the poor bastard that becomes the first fighter in history to be knocked out by a butterfly punch! LOL

Hi Micheal, wasn't Sam Greco also with you guys at commentary? Or was that at the Adam Watt fight?

I can't remember

We've had Sam join us on the commentary a few times... he was with me on the commentary on SKY TV for the K-1 Oceania 2002 and he has been on with me and The Hammer a few times including Ozkan vs Tsakonas II. It may have been that fight you were thinking of. Sam didn't do any guest commentary on the Ozkan vs Watt fight.

Oh man! if Gurkan ever ko's someone with a butterfly punch, I'm gonna piss myself laughing. But I really wanna see it happen. I can imagine some poor bastard going cross-eyed after being hit with it and just dropping to the canvas in slow motion and being counted out. cruel? yes. funny? oh **** yes.

I think the "butterfly punch" is not really a punch at all, but a slap designed to damage the opponent's ear drums. Funny to watch, but I think he'll get caught again when he throws it next, maybe from a jab or right cross straight up the middle. Very risky technique!!!

Thanks for the reply Michael <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I just remembered, I am pretty sure that it was on the Arthur Vs Ozkan rematch that Sam talked with you guys for about 10 minutes, (Funny stuff, especially when one of you guys asked him if he had showed Gurkan the punch backstage!). This is the first time I have ever seen Gurkan do the punch. I must say that when he does it, he does it good! I think that if it does connect properly it would seriously rattle his opponent by smashing their ear drums! Would that be an illegal move?

Hmmm, I think it should be. I wouldn't be pleased if someone f**ked my eardrums doing that dodgy technique. It's not even a proper punch or recognised technique.
