Gurkan Ozkan, Michael Zambidis, Jenk Behic, Arthur Tsokonas, Adam Watt, Stan the man is just a small list of legends and some of the great fighters of Australian kickboxing history. How did they become legends and where was there first shot at stardom?
The day we are born till we watch our first action movie and our first kickboxing/martial arts movie spectacular, we then use what we see on telvesion on to out little or sometimes older siblings. The days I was born I was brought up watching Bruce Lee, Rocky and Vanne Damme films, and believe me after wacthing them I use my skills I thought i learnt on my little innocent brother! Poor kid, but nowaday he has grown bigger than me! lol
You then get a little older and workout that fighing isnt just a movie, you learn about self defence as soon as grade prep or one. Whenever you see a stranger never fear just find a safety house. However, some of us dont like to run and dont like to hide. Why cant i use my vanne damme skill on a stranger we ask? Our parents were aware of such and try all measures of safety for there children.
If it werent people like Jamal Hassan & Johny Scida who teach kids from the basics some of us would be left dreaming that they think they have the leathel leg kicks of bruce lee.
For those who dont or were not able to train, they can watch it for themselves. People like Tarik SOlak, Michael Vukovic, Johny Scida and Paul Democolli have given everyone the opportunity to be specatators of a real life action spectacular.
WHo was stan 25 years ago? who was ozkan 10 years ago? What about that little kid in greece? What did Bob Jones do for kickboxing? Without all 3 strong foundations from the fighters, trainers and promoters, kickboxing would just be a movie on VHS.
We all have to start somewhere...
