Albert Kraus wins the K-1 WORLD MAX tournament.

Not going to go into a whole lot of detail, but it was a pretty entertaining and competitive show.

MASATO v. Ludwig.

MASATO showed strong kicks and moved forward the whole fight, but Ludwig faught well while moving backwards. He would eat a few leg kicks and then fire back with a nice punch-kick combo. First two rounds were very even. On a punch exchange in the third, MASATO nails Ludwig with a nice left to the chin and "Bang" goes down. It looked like he might not get up, but eventually beat the 10 count. Ludwig seemed a little dazed for the next few moments and took some more shots, but he hung on and fought evenly until the bell. Judges give MASATO the fight 30-28, 30-27, 30-28.

Chapman v. Kraus.

Only showed the first and last rounds. Chapman was headhunting with his highkick, but Kraus seemed to block them well. Kraus showed good boxing ability and really worked the left hooks to the body. Kraus had some pretty significant swelling under both eyes by the end of the fight, so some of Chapman's shots must have gotten through. Fight seemed pretty close from what they showed. Judges gave it to Kraus : 30-29, 30-29,30-29.

Deflorin v. Kohiruimaki.

Deflorin eats a big knee to the midsection early in the first round and goes down, not to get up. KO for Kohiruimaki, avenging a loss to Deflorin back in 2000.

Kaovichit v. Jiapo.

Jiapo was really unorthodox and it made for an ugly fight to watch. They edited out the second round, and when they picked it up in the third, Jiapo seemed spent. Kaovichit scored with low kicks and knees, and took the unanimous decision 30-28, 30-29, 30-27.

MASATO v. Kraus.

Kraus' eyes looked bad from the swelling but it didn't seem to hinder him. MASATO had strong low kicks and was aggressive, but Kraus stood his ground and didn't retreat. A straight right from Kraus got through on one of their exchanges and MASATO went down. He got up quickly, but appeared to have a broken nose.

MASATO pushed the pace in the second and third rounds knowing he needed at least a knockdown to even things, but Kraus wouldn't oblige him. More good boxing and effective defense kept things even in the second. MASATO squeaked out the third round on the judges' cards but it wasn't enough to counter the previous knockdown. Kraus takes it 29-28, 29-28, 30-28.

Kaovichit v. Kohiruimaki.

Kohiruimaki was bothered by the clinching and kept turning his back in the clinch (I guess to get the ref. to step in quicker to break it up). The ref would do so, but Kaovichit would get in a few free shots on Kohirumaki from behind in the process. At one point as Kohiruimaki tried to spin out of the clinch, both men tumbled to the ground and the Japanese fighter appeared to hurt his arm. The doctors checked him and the fight continued but Kohiruimaki's heart seemed out of it.

Both fighters received a yellow card for the clinch shenanigans, but action in the clinch continued. Once again Kohiruimaki turned his back and this time he got kneed in the side and went down. He got up but went down again from knees moments later. Kaovichit by TKO.

Kraus v. Kaovichit.

This looked to be a good final with a real contrast in styles. But it ended all too quickly as Kraus hammered Kaovichit with a swarm of punches that had the Thai fighter covering up. A big right got through and Kaovichit went down for the count.

Looks like Kraus wont forget Chapman in a hurry. Black eyes in all his photos.

$80,000 US dollars That is a great payday for anyone in sports.

Imagine if this event was around 10 years ago. I wonder how some of our guys like Vick, Hedgecock, Jacobs, Ozkan, Tui & Suttie would have went and how different the profile of the sport-discipline would be now.
