A question for Mark "The Hammer"...

how many paper sales do you guys have roughly per edition?
how is the magazine going - growth??
what's subscription like these days???

just some questions that are coming up at the gym.

thanx,

Have I told you guys about the 2 girls that live across the street!

They usually come over and steal my copies.
Recently they've been complaining about not enough girl perve material. And when the bastards find one of my images in the mag, that they like, they hassle the crap out of me until I make them a colour inkjet.
Topless Kara, and Dawson in any form is good for a half hour of silly giggles. Hehe, they reckon Mike looks like a cuddly kid, and were really pissed off bad this last time that I didn't try harder to get them 'tickets for the Public weigh in'.

Damn, I couldn't imagine a 3 hour drive with them in the car.

"Stan the Man, Stan the Man...hehehehehehe".

Hi Bullet

Some interesting questions about the mag,
We distribute about 25,000 mags, Its going great
at the moment, Some issues do better than others
it really depends on who's on the cover etc.
A lot of the readers still have not worked
out that its a great deal when you subscribe,
you get the mag delivered to your home before it
gets to the newsagent and its cheaper.

We have just now put in some new concepts to give the
mag a improved new look and feel, with Michael Schiavello
heading the editorial team now I'm sure the quality will
improve greatly.

At this stage we are planing a exclusive interview with
the very controversial Gurkan Ozkan ( Just for you Janer!)
Some very interesting questions will be asked, believe me!

If anyone has any suggestions on things they would like covered
in the mag please let me know, Its a mag for all you guys
so let us know what you want in there.

Thanks Bullet for your interest and
to all you guys and girls fighters, trainers,
promoters that support the magazine, Thank You!

Without you
Kickboxing would have no voice!

I think after Knocking Out the K-1 World Max 2002 Champion, Albert Kraus, that the many Zam fans would really enjoy one of Michaels Articles on Zambidis.

Stanley Nandex.
many of us know little more about him than his nick the headhunter.
It looks like Tarik is going to try and build him into a Star attraction, so it would be cool to have some idea of who he is.

I hate to break it to Hammer, but not all of us get the subscription to our door before the newsagent. I actually did not renew mine this year because it was sometimes 2 or 3 days later that I would get mine but I still had to look at it sitting on the news stands.

Oh, and lets get some posters in the IK, they look great in the gym but we haven't seen any for a while.

Will this happen in the future?

HAMMER

Sorry to hear it qlander,
In the past there may have been a couple of
problems, so we have just in the last month
gone to a new mailing house, which means everything
should be on track again and you will get the mag
earlier, If not let me know.

Cheers

Hammer,
Here are a few thibgs that i would like to see in the mag.
When you run articles on fighters it would be good to see some fight info.
ie Age, number of fights, titles, ko's, background.
also who do the fighters won't to fight next, so we all know if they dodge fights or not.
More info on the ametur fighers.

But to some it all up International Kickboxer is a dam good mag. I am not bagging it one bit.

Hi Hammer,

I have every issue of international kickboxer except one, which for some reason didn't make to newstands around my area, I found out about it when the cover was featured in the next issue, which is the one where there was an article about Paul Briggs moving up to Cruiserweight, not sure if he was on the cover. What I'd like to know is if we could order back issues?? Thanks, and great job on commentating the fights.

Hi guys

I have HEAPS of new ideas for the magazine, we're going to give it a whole face lift, as you would have seen starting last issue (BOB SAPP cover).

The interview with Ozkan in the next issue will be INTERESTING... it asks ALL the questions YOU want answered and then some more! And Gurkan DOESN"T hold back.

Also, there will be a SPECIAL SECTION smack bang in the centre of the magazine featuring something I'm sure everyone will be interested in and has never been done before in the mag (hehehe... it will rock). PLUS, there will be a lot of NEW contributors to the magazine as several fighters, trainers and promoters start writing a whole new series of columns.

And once again there will have 7 pages of RINGSIDE ROUND UP... beefed up from the usual 3 of the past... more news, gossip, rumours and updates than ever before.

Supermario, love you in that kart game... yes you can order back issues of Kickboxer to make sure your collection is complete.

Thanks guys... stay tuned for the next issue. Something different in there for everyone.

Hi Michael,
The latest issue with the 7 pages of ringside round up was well done
and i hope it's an ongoing thing. I think subscription is definitely worth it. Although i also had problems with some issues coming about 3 to 5 days after the newstand. But most of the time you get it early.

Only suggestion i have is maybe a legends page/poster. People the likes Dekker, rob Kamen,Saengthien-Noi and other Thai legends. A pull out poster would be good with some basic info about the fighter. Just something for the gyms walls ect.

Danny Blake

Sounds great Michael, especially the columns from fighters/trainers. Have to agree with Danny, I'd love a big poster of Ramon Dekker and co!

Thats a good idea similar to Boxing's Fist Mag 'from the archives" section at the back of every edition. Also it would be worth considering a letters to the editor page.

Well done on a great mag, love the last edition which seemed to have more in depth articles and interviews. Keep up the good work fellas.

this has been really interesting - the only question i pose is: whats doing with BOB SAPP on the cover???

i mean, we have our own aussie talent, and he is a circus clown. K1 has to pick itself up from the ground and get some real talent.

i brought this up in the past on the AX site, and there was similar interest in the fact that K1 max is growing into what fight fans rather see between the two.

just a thought..

Dear Michael and Hammer,
how is it going. Here is an idea for the Magazine. How about you include a section where readers are able to send in their choices for certain topics? For example, each month a new question can be asked, "Who has the best head kicks", "Who is the best puncher", "Who is your favourite fighter", Who is this years most successfull"? What you could either do is provide a cut out where readers could tick, fill in etc their favourite choices and mail it in, (in this case results might take longer to publish)! Or you could either provide a web address to a site, (either Sportzblitz.com, tariksolak.com, or newly created one) which allows internet users to contribute to an online poll! Instead of showing the results of the poll on the web, the results could be published in the next issue of International Kickboxer! You could also include pics of the fighters that the readers have chosen (if question relates to fighter being chosen) and you could also include runner ups!

Just a thought, what do you guys think

GUYS just a warning Dont buy that speedball you might have seen advertised in international kickboxer i ordered it and recieved it yesterday and it is a total piece of SH!T its basiclly a 3inch piece of foam glued to a thin rope i punched it for around 10min and the ball doesnt even return due to rope doesnt have enough elastic in it so i tightend the rope hoping maybe the ball would return properly and the rope snapped.. if anyone has seen this device you would know it probally only cost around 20cents to make. i think ill go back to the jim bradley speedballs! where the ball is made of leather and the rope is not ROPE its jelly rubber... other than that its a great mag full of interresting reading material! keep up the good work.

HHH,

I think it would be even faster if the questions were asked on the web, but answered in the Mag. Save on the time of mailing in at least.

Also, that way, it would bring some more of the 25000 mag readers into our forum here.

Actually, I guess the guys at the mag are already doing their surveys here, eg like the Stan question.

Michael,

Is it possible to put an article on how scoring works in KB/MT? I have been in the sport for around a year now, and when I hear 29 - 28 after a fight I still have no idea what it means.

Thanks

some interesting things have been brought up here:

Hey sethridge - ur too funny mate. I was actually waiting to see ONE response from that peice of crap rip off gadget. Honestly, I dont blame you for thinking that stupid TOY would actually work.

You would be better off tying an elastic round your head and attach a tennis ball - something like Kostya Tzsyu uses.

SINBAD: both kickboxing and MT use a 10 points must system. that means that the winner of each round must get 10 points and the loser of the round gets either 9 or 8 - depending on performance (or lack of), 8-count scroed against them, etc.

the 29-28 you are referring to means that the decision from one of the judges was 29-28, your score being the one that didctates whether or not you won the fight. Example - You win the first round 10-9, you lose the second round 9-10 and you win the third round 10-9. Ultimately, your score on one of the judges score cards will be 29-28.

scores may fluctuate between the jusges, but hopefully not too much.

I hope that helps you out mate.

Hi guys and girls,

All great ideas, thanks for the feedback. I'm piecing together the next issue of IK at the moment... I bought a magazine this morning (FilmInk, which is my fave movie magazine by the way and highly recommend it) and noticed that there are some stories I look at and simply don't read just cos the topic or the content doesn't appeal... i thought to myself that now that I'm editing IK magazine once more I'd like to make it so that readers WANT to read EVERY story and make EVERY story so enticing that you just have to read it. Hence next issue there will be HEAPS of new ideas and a whole new feel to the magazine. I hope this will make IK not just another magazine but a reading experience and a page-turner that you'll want to read from cover to cover and not miss a word.

Anyways, gotta get back to the writing process... keep those ideas coming... as for the FAN PAGE I have started this last issue with the Dawson vs Parr topic and this issue have given you the opportunity to express your opinions on the SHOULD STAN RETIRE topic - I will include your answers in the next issue of the magazine.

Best wishes

Sorry BULLET, in answer to your question re BOB SAPP cover last issue.

While our main focus is on Aussie kickboxing, we can't ignore it when someone like Big Bob comes along and makes such an enormous commercial and fan impact as he has in such a short time. It would be remiss of us as a magazine covering 'the world' to ignore someone of such enormous impact.

There is a 'freak' element to Bob which we will be exploring in further issues of the magazine and with the record ratings he brought to the last K-1 GP we thought this was an ideal time to showcase him on the front cover. It had been a while since our last international cover and I think Bob, though relatively new to the sport, was totally justified being on the cover as his impact on K-1 (both good and bad) has been phenomenal to say the least. Whether or not you believe he is a positive or negative for K-1 is another issue... and one which we will tackle shortly in the magazine.

Thanks for the feedback. And look out for the best of Aussie and international content in issues to come.

The mag is for Australians but should tell us about the world of kickboxing. So I would be happy to see K-1 fighters on the cover. LeBanner or Sefo etc. I don't only want to see the best aussies but the best from world as well. News from country to country. Maybe a few pages on a regular basis covering maybe 20 countries with current stars and prospects from those countries, etc.

HHH

I agree Paul C it would be faster on the web, and the results should be printed in the IK magazines.

my favourite issues of IK are still the very first and second issues, with stan and steve vick on the cover respectively. They were awesome, particularly the first one, where anybody who was somebody in the WORLD of kickboxing was profiled, and heaps of young and up and coming young fighters back then (Iosifidis, westerman, the tetoris bros, the briggs bros, Ian jacobs, etc). That's still my favourite issue of any magazine I've ever bought, including playboys, though not in a gay way :) And the second profiled Vick's journey towards a rematch against Hector Penna, which never happened, instead he fought Spain's Chinto Mordillo, which I saw and will never forget. Back then, neighbours didn't fight each other for world titles. Point is, IK's awesome, but I'd like to see the international flavour evident in the first couple of issues return, I think it should be half-half, half aussie, half the rest of the world. Oh, and the last article in the second issue explaining the four different rules of kickboxing (full-contact, leg kicks, Knees and no elbows, and full thai rules) was pretty awesome. One of my favourite IK features ever that wasn't a fighter profile. But now that Michael's in charge, I'm excited, love his work, always innovative. anywho, those are my 200 cents.
