View Full Version : Who do you think would win?
If Michael Zambidis was to fight Gurkan Ozkan (9 X 3 min, kickboxing rules)at a fairly equal fighting weight (or give or take 10 kilos) who do you think would win? Please follow the following format-
- Michael Zambidis
- Either by decision or K.O in the last or 2nd last round.
- I think that Zambidis is an all round great fighter (skill, speed, power, experience etc). In my opinion if it went the distance Zambidis would win on a points decision easily. On the other hand, if Zambidis really wears Gurkan out he has the power to knock him out!
PS: Please just post your opinions on the fight, and please try not to argue!

First off I doubt they could fight at an equal weight. Michael has to give up weight. Anything over 72 and it's just not him I believe. Make Gurkan drop a bit of his current weight and be at no more than 80. Mike can give up some weight. The catchweight fight of the decade.
What rules would it be under? Kickboxing or K-1? 12 X 2 min or 5 X 3 min. I'll assume a 5 X 3 k-1 bout.
-Gurkan Ozkan
-Points decision
-I think both are fantastic fighters, both have knockout power. But I beleive that Ozkan will be able to take as well as give. Ozkan has taken some very big shots. The question will be has Zam faced anybody as strong as Gurkan?

The lightest Gurkan would make would be 76kg...Mike heaviest 72kg but anything could happen
on Tariks shows....that would be a ripper of a match.....

Gurkan lands a punch on Mike that would be dangerous....

gurkan 75kg
zambidis 72kg
zambidis to stop gurkan in the later rounds with a flurry. gurkan leaves himself open in the line of fire. zambidis has great defensive skills and would exploit gurkans many weaknesses. as far as fitness. you canot compare the two. zambidis has the stamina over gurkan. zambidis will make him work for the entire fight, and at the point of frustration gurkan will give it up and fight stupid leaving himself completely open.

- Gurkan Ozkan
- Too Big, Too Strong
- Gurkan will not let zam get inside where zam is most dangerous
Gurkan will out slug Zambidis.

- Ozkan
- KO in the later rounds
- To much weight difference for Zambidis to compete with.
Pound for pound if they were in the same weight division I would be backing Zambidis 110%

aaah but Stan the Old Man was not pushing him at all. Put an energetic, young, prime Zambidis in front of anyone and size be damned! Your in for a war.

Do you guys think Mike going up to 75 would slow him down a lot?
There is a lot of possibilities. Mike's mobility could play huge roll I think. If he stays out of the way and just concentrates on point scoring, because he is very hard and fluid worker. At this stage I'm going to say Ozkan win TKO.
I think Mike is an exceptionally tough and talented kid. I know he's very powerful, but I don't think that this would bother Ozkan too much, as he's taken massive shots from the big guys and is used to it.
I agree with Sash's comment about this fight re fight of the decade. It does have the potential to have the crowds on their chairs, and no doubt will if this goes ahead.

OK I'm shocked. Janer and Paul have picked Ozkan to win! I never thought I would see the day. ;) Must agree with you Paul this is potentially a stand-up-on-your-chair-and-belt-the-idiot-behind-you-who-tells-you-to-sit-down kind of fight.

Come on Sash, your now turning everything into Pro Gurkan arguements.
Gee, you picked Mike so what.

lol Paul, laugh my friend. Just a bit of harmless sarcasm and fun, I bet even Janer could see that.
BTW I didn't pick Mike to win.
I remember reading a post which said that the weight Zambidis is most comfortable with is 74-75kg? Is this true or false, I thought that 69-70kg was his comfortable fight weight as I have never seen him fight at 74-75kg?

1.Mike Zambidis
2.Points or late round KO
3.Mike is fitter and much quicker than Gurkan and could take him out into the deep water and drown him so to speak. He would be deadly inside and I don't think Ozkan could keep him out. But you never really know, when two blokes with loads of power face each other in the ring..
HHH,
From what I've been told (from mates ascotiated with Stan and Kenos) Mike feels comfortable at low to mid 70 kgs. But I am not 100% sure
I dont think Zam would try to knock Gurkan out with head shots, he knows that Gurkan is tough in this department, but I think he would deliver some massive shots to his body, then make his way to Gurkans head.
If it was a points decision, I'd say Zam cause of work rate, and his ability to pick shots without wasting punches. Zam has the ability to make a fighter fight his game.
Weight difference, hard one to call.. Depends on how much weight difference.
Also, Mike hasn't hit his peak yet,

i dought zam would knock ozkan out.. zam hit JWP flush on more than one occasion to head and body and JWP wasnt fazed at all so i dought he would ko ozkan. would be close fight but have to say ozkan ko 8 or 9th round and if went the distance OZKAN for sure cuz all tariks judges tend to favour his fighters.. like prob most other promoters judges. so guys dont jump down my throat!
I beleive JWP got shaken a little in that fight. And I don't know whether he took Zam's absolute best. JWP took some of Zam's power away early in the fight with his knees.
Thanks for the info JKLA :)
