- The following link will take you to an article posted on UFCJunkie.com
about a month ago. There you will find the new trailer for THQ's first UFC
video game. The game is currently scheduled for the XBox 360 and the
Playstation 3. It should be released some time in 2008.

With a working title of "UFC 2009", the trailer features Chuck Liddell and
Quinton Jackson and is EXTREMELY good.

Marvin Eastman, more famous more his own destructions rather than his
foes, has confirmed today that he will fight Demian Maia at UFC 77:
HOSTILE TERRITORY.

Eastman posted this comment on his blog:

"The smashing [continues] at 185 until I get a title fight against the
belt holder in the middleweight division in the UFC. I will get there and
win that belt."

Marvin Eastman last fought in the UFC as a Light Heavyweight against a
UFC-debuting Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. He lost via second round knockout
and decided to drop to Middleweight.

He fought for the Steel Cage Promotions' "International Fighting
Organization", at their debut show in Vegas, and defeated Rob Kimmons to
win the IFO Middleweight Championship.

Eastman now feels ready to dip his toes into the UFC's Middleweight
division. Good luck...

- A statement from Dana White on UFC.com announces some very welcome news
to UFC fans: The return of Brandon "The Truth" Vera.

From UFC.com:

BRANDON VERA RETURNS TO THE OCTAGON™
Las Vegas, NV (USA) – The Truth hurts. Just

ask those who have ever stepped into the Octagon™ with rising heavyweight
star Brandon "The Truth" Vera, who, after a prolonged absence due to
managerial issues, will finally return to the Ultimate Fighting
Championship® (UFC®) organization to put his perfect record on the line as
he resumes his chase for the World Heavyweight Championship. Dana White,
UFC President, who was pleased to make the announcement of Vera's return
today, expects the Californian to be back in action as soon as October of
this year.

“Brandon Vera is a young, well-rounded, exciting heavyweight who finishes
fights in exciting fashion,” said Dana White, UFC President. “I think he
brings a lot to the heavyweight mix, and I see him in a position to fight
for the heavyweight title in 2008.”

Brandon “The Truth” Vera was undefeated and considered a top contender in
the heavyweight division before a contract dispute with former management
took him out of action. Now, almost a year later, the issue has been
resolved, Vera is under new management and is anxious to start fighting
again.

“I'm so excited to be back in the UFC, I have no words to describe the
feeling,” said Vera.

“The Truth” comes back at a time when the UFC heavyweight division has
never been more powerful, boasting a lineup of contenders that reads like
a “Who’s Who” of the world’s most competitive fighters, with a three-time
UFC heavyweight champion sitting at the top. In the last year, the UFC has
brought on Mirko “Cro Cop,” Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira, and
Fabricio Werdum, and has seen the rise of Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga and
Cheick Kongo. Also in the mix of could-be Vera foes are former UFC
Heavyweight Champions Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski and Frank Mir.

“I realize the UFC heavyweight division is much stronger now, but I like
having more challenges, and that just gives me more motivation to train,”
said Vera. “I feel that when I’m on top of my game, nobody can beat me. I
have a plan to become the heavyweight champion, so I’m going to stick to
the plan that my management team NCFC and both of my coaches set and win
the titles. I want to prove I'm the best for my family, my friends and
most of all my fans.”

Fighting out of San Diego, Calif., Vera is 6’3” 223 lbs., and holds a
brown belt in jiu-jitsu. He has won many submission competitions, but he
has also become known for his striking ability. He has won all four of his
fights in the UFC and scored all victories by either knockout or
submission. His last three fights all ended in the first round.

Vera made his Octagon debut at UFC® Fight Night™ in October of 2005. He
proved he meant business and finished the much heavier Fabiano Scherner in
the second round by knee strikes. He went on to score back-to-back first
round victories with a KO over Justin Eilers at UFC 57, and a submission
over Assuerio Silva (guillotine choke) at UFC 60. At UFC 65 last November
Vera took on former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir and defeated him by
TKO at 1:09 in the first round.

Vera stands undefeated in the UFC and holds an overall mixed martial arts
record of 8-0. He intends to maintain that winning streak all the way to
the heavyweight championship.

- Dave Meltzer lists the 6 fighters Liddell had a crack at for UFC 76:
KNOCKOUT.

* Forrest Griffin
* Keith Jardine
* Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
* Lyoto Machida
* Kazuhiro Nakamura
* Houston Alexander

I mistakenly said that Liddell had turned down one fight after another for
one reason or another, and that is not true.

The decision to go with Jardine in the fight was made by Dana White. This
is not to say that Liddell did not have a hand in choosing the fight, or
people in his camp, it just means that the final say came from Dana White.

Griffin had a previously scheduled fight, so he was out; the same is also
true of Houston Alexander; there were concerns internally that Kazuhiro
Nakamura would be known strictly by PRIDE fans or hardcore MMA fans and
his marketability would suffer for it; Lyoto Machida was available, but
his often boring style wasn't anything they would be willing to risk in a
big main event fight, and he was out.

In regards to Rua, the UFC felt that only 5% of their audience would be
fired up for the fight. The feeling is that Rua needs to prove himself to
the UFC fans and get over with them before a Superfight of that caliber
could be booked and make money.

And last but not least, the decision to go with Jardine was based around
which fight would be the sexiest and most exciting. Clearly the UFC made
their decision, and now it's up to the Pay-Per-View buyers to make up
their minds about the fight.

Because the fight with Silva was on one day and off the next, I'm sure
someone close to Liddell had a hand in deciding who the best fight would
be against. Time, after all, was not on their side.

And I have to say, the more I think about this fight, the more I think
Jardine has a MAJOR chance to win this fight. I wouldn't be surprised if
he was KO'd, but I'd be less surprised if he won. Liddell is entering one
of the key phases in his career, and it will be very interesting to see
how well "The Iceman" can come back and, if he can, will he thrive?

This fight isn't as bad as first thought. It's like the finale to The
Sopranos. It may not seem to be all that great at first, but give it time.
This is one of those fights. If you bet for a decision, you deserve to
loose your house!
