The Ultimate Fighting Championship is scrambling for a main event for
the company's planned Sept. 22 show at the Honda Center in Anaheim,
Calif., after light heavyweight Wanderlei Silva told UFC president Dana
White through an intermediary that he did not want to fight Chuck
Liddell.

White said he had reached terms for Liddell, arguably the UFC's most
popular fighter and its recently deposed 205-pound champion, to meet
the Brazilian Silva in a highly anticipated bout at UFC 76.

But White said Wednesday he was told by a member of Silva's Chute Box
team that Silva did not want to fight Liddell. White said the deadline
for having the fight made was Wednesday.

"This is the worst news I could have possibly gotten," White said.
"It's horrendous. I have been trying to make this fight for six years.
I have done everything in my power I could do over the last six years
to make this fight and it's still not happening. I just don't see it
happening now."

-What makes this interesting is Wanderli Silva posted on his web site
yesterday that he is fighting Chuck Liddell at UFC 76 on 9/22/07. It
was posted in Portuguese

"Chegou a hora !!!

American translation

"The hour arrived! The date of the fight of Wanderlei Silva is
confirmed. It will be day 22 of September, in U.S.A., place and
schedule not yet defined. The confrontation between Wanderlei Silva and
Chuck Lidell already had been divulged has about two months, and now it
increases the expectation of the fans in following the final
preparation. After many challenges, Lidell will have the chance to face
intense Wanderlei, that are in constant preparation, treinos and an
infinite will in winning this confrontation. Also other fights for the
UFC are marked: In UFC 74, day 25 of August, they will face Randy
Couture and Gabriel Gonzaga and day 09 of Quinton September Jackson
face Dan Henderson, for UFC 75."

UFCJunkie.com is also reporting the Liddell vs. Silva fight has been
verbally agreed upon by the two parties. As a fan I hope the fight will
happen this time. Silva released a statement in early may saying he is
going to take the rest of 2007 off to improve due to his back to back
KO losses at the hands of Mirko Cro Cop on 9/11/06 and Dan Henderson on
2/24/07.

-Bodog Fight Paradise Lost Season 4, Episode 3 results:

to strikes at 3:20 of the 2nd round.

television along with a replay on Saturdays at 11:00pm.

-Graciefighter.com is reporting Zuffa has released Nick Diaz form his
Pride contract. The feeling is Diaz was released because he also has a
contract with Elite XC which is a non exclusive contract. Zuffa doesn't
want fighters fight for any other promotion.

-IFL stock closed yesterday at $0.74 a share.

-K-1 Hero’s Grand Prix Champion Gesias "JZ" Calvancanti has pulled out
of his fight on the 7/16 K-1 Hero's 9 card against Andre Dida due to an
undisclosed injury.Undefeated CageForce and Pancrase veteran Artur
Oumakhanov is expected to replace “JZ." The SK Absolute Russia fighter
is coming off of a decision victory over Wataru Miki. It is not known
at this time if Calvancanti will receive a bye into the next round of
the 155-pound tournament.

-http://www.kakuto.com is reporting Pride Lightweight Champion Takanori
Gomi has signed with K-1 Heros and more details regarding his signing
will be released later. I know the UFC was working hard on trying to
acquire the services of Gomi. However K-1 is known for announcing
fights they were never signed and never happened. It will be
interesting to see what will happen.

-Pro Elite and Showtime will launch a new show called "ShoXC" similar
to "ShoBOX - The Next Generation", featuring lesser known or
up-and-coming fighters on late-night spots on the premium Showtime

and Edson Berto will battle each other in the main event of the first
show. That show is scheduled to debut on July 27th and will be held in
the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.

-Mike Russell of the Fightnetwork.com is reporting UFC heavyweight Jake
O’Brien underwent successful surgery yesterday to replace two damaged
discs in his back and to install a titanium plate in his neck. Speaking
from his parents’ home in Indianapolis, Ind., a groggy O’Brien told The
Fight Network he’d be out of training for at least six months.
O'Brien's biggest victory came at UFC Fight Night 9 on 9/20/07 where he
defeated the highly hyped Heath Herring via a dominating unanimous
decision.

-ProElite.com is showing the entire Cage Rage: Hard as Hell card live
and free Saturday July 14 at 1:00pm EST & 10:00am PST. The event hails
from Wembley Arena in London, England.

If you guys have been considering watching events on Pro Elite but are
wondering about the quality you will be in for a treat. The quality is
one of the best I have seen on the Internet when it comes to watching
fights.

Cage Rage 22 Hard as Hell:

Butter Bean vs. Tengiz Tedoradze

Mario Sperry vs. Lee Hasdell

Cabbage vs. James Thompson

Edson Drago vs. Gary Turner

Dave Legeno vs. Herb Dean (Yes the ref)

Mark Buchannan vs. James McSweeny

Paul Chahoon vs. Mark Epstein

Ronnie Mann vs. Robbie Olivier

Marios Zaromskis vs. Ross Mason

Ross Pointon vs. Dean Bray

Joe Mac vs. Bad Boy

Tom Watson vs. Ed Smith

Michael Johnson vs. Damian Riccio

-Kiyoshi Tamura has signed with K-1 Heroes. Tamura will fight Tae Kin
in a superfight on the Hero's 9 card. This is interesting considering
Kazushi Sakuraba is under contract with K-1 Heros. Both men were in the
ring together at the very last Pride show in April and it is a fight
the Japanese fans have wanted for years. Both were men were Pro
Wrestlers in the UWFI promotion which presented a worked shoot style of
wrestling. Reports over the years indicate Tamura never liked Sakuraba
and refused to put him over when they worked together. Pride tried
making this fight happen several times on their Shockwave New Years Eve
shows and often Tamura would never fight Sakuraba but would fight other
fighters on the card. If K-1 can make this fight happen that would be
great but I would not bet my house on it.

-Tito Ortiz has one fight left on his UFC contract and that fight will
take place at the UFC event in October against Rashad Evans. This fight
is much more interesting due to Tito's public feud with Dana White.
What happens if Tito wins? What happens if Tito loses? If Tito loses
can he ask for as much money as he dose or will he have to take a pay
cut?

It will be interesting to see what will happen. IMO the UFC needs to
keep Tito. Weather you like him or you don't, Tito Ortiz hypes a fight
like no other in MMA. Even when his fights are not the main event they
draw the most attention. The Ortiz vs. Evans fight was promoted more
then the two title fights because people want to see Tito win or see
him get his rear end kicked.

-UFC 73 Fighter medical suspensions were released by the California
State Athletic Commission. Most injuries listed below can be cleared
early by a doctor or the CSAC. The no contact generally means no hard
training or sparing during the suspension. This is done for
precautionary measures more then anything.

Mark Bocek: 45 days/30 days with no contact due to TKO. 60 days with no
contact due to laceration (can be cleared by doctor early)

Heath Herring: 60 days with no contact due to left cheek damage, and
eyebrow and nose lacerations

Tito Ortiz: 60 days with no contact due to right eye damage and
lower-back pain (Kurt Angle told me once Tito had back problems)

Nate Marquardt: 30 to 45 days with no contact due to TKO. 60 days with
no contact due to lacerations around both eyes

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira: 30 to 45 days with no contact for
precautionary reasons.

Alvin Robinson: 30 to 45 days with no contact due to TKO.

Jorge Gurgel: Suspended indefinitley for a broken jaw and facial
fractures. (Man this guy can't catch a break with injuries)

Frank Edgar: Suspended 180 days due to nose fracture and no contact.

Jason Gilliam: Suspended 180 days radial collateral ligament damage. No
contact.

-Regarding my Kurt Angle comment on Tito Ortiz's back pain I met Kurt
at a show in December 2006. I herd all the MMA rumors so I asked him
who he thought would win the Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell fight at UFC
66. He laughed and said "without question Chuck Liddell is going to
win." He went on to tell me "Tito has a back injury not many people
know about and he only has 3 to 5 fights tops left in him." Now I know
Kurt comments have been all over the place regarding MMA and IMO he
should not fight. But Tito has had back problems since his fight with
Randy Couture at UFC 44 in September of 2003. I don't know if the
injury Kurt mentioned is as serious as he was lead to believe but only
time will tell.

-TKO Major League MMA has officially announced two title bouts for TKO
30: Apocalypse, scheduled to take place September 28 at the Bell Centre
in Montreal, Canada.

Sam "Hands of Stone" Stout (11-3-1) returns to TKO to make his fourth
lightweight title defense when he faces Martin "The Hammer" Grandmont
(5-3).

Chris Clements (4-1) will battle Sean "The Pimp" Pierson (5-3) for the
vacant welterweight title.

FIGHT CARD:

Sam Stout vs. Martin Grandmont
Chris Clements vs. Sean Pierson
Samuel Guillet vs. Yves Lemelin
Syd Barnier vs. Guillaume Lamarche
Mark Hominick vs. TBA
Stephane Vigneault vs. TBA
Stephane Dube vs. TBA
Steve Bosse vs. TBA

The new season of The Ultimate Fighter, the 6th, will debut on SPIKE TV
on September 20, following UFC Fight Night 11.

The new season will feature 16 Welterweight fighters with UFC World
Welterweight Champion Matt "The Terror" Serra and title contender Matt
Hughes serving as coaches. (Both will fight in December for the UFC World
Welterweight Championship)

UFCJunkie.com has the following fighters RUMORED for the new season:

*Matt Arroyo (2-1 MMA)

*Blake Bowman (0-0 MMA)

*Mac Danzig (16-4-1 MMA)

*Richie Hightower (7-1 MMA)

*Jon Koppenhaver (4-1 MMA)

*Billy Miles (2-1 MMA)

*Ben Saunders (4-0-2 MMA)

*Joe Scarola (3-0 MMA)

Again, these are only RUMORED cast members as nothing official has been
announced by the UFC.

- Before the new season can begin, the UFC will run, as I stated above,
UFC Fight Night 11. The rumored main event has Thiago Alves fighting
Kuniyoshi Hironaka.

The event will emanate from The Palms in Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. won the ESPY award for "Best Fighter". Randy
Couture and Quinton Jackson were also up for the honor, formerly know as
"Best Boxer".

Mayweather defeated Oscar De La Hoya in May in the Boxers only fight of
the year thus far, and no plans for a second.

Of course he is not the "Best" fighter by a long shot, but Boxing is still
THE combat sport in the United States.

MMA has taken huge strides in the last year and even getting two MMA
fighters nominated as "Best Fighter" is a huge boost to the sport.

- Chuck Liddell has commented on his fight with Silva once again falling
through by saying:

"To my knowledge, he turned it down, but I don't pay attention much until
they tell me it's time to go. There is never any problem with me signing
to fight."

Blaming the Japanese at first, Dana White is now blaming Silva and his
team for this juggernaut fight falling through once again.

- In other UFC news, Dana White was quoted at the post-fight news
conference for UFC 73: STACKED as saying the following about the
Jackson/Henderson fight at UFC 75: CHAMPION vs. CHAMPION:

"I've been saying all along this thing is a unification title bout, Pride
Champion vs. UFC Champion. The guy that walks away walks away with the
unified, undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world."

This is not true. I'll even go one better and say that White is flat out
LYING in this statement.

During the UFC 73 pre-fight media conference call, I asked White if the
fight would be a "Unification fight" and he said "No". Saying instead that
the UFC wanted to respect the PRIDE FC Championships and that both titles
would NOT be on the line. However, he did say that who ever won would be
crowned the UFC World Light Heavyweight Champion and ALSO the PRIDE Light
Heavyweight Champion. That the winner would walk out with both belts, not
a single Unified 205 pound championship. As far as that conference call
was concerned, White said that the UFC title would be on the line, but
that the winner would walk out with the others belt, not a unified title
belt.

In fact, White was the one who muddied the waters by saying that ONLY the
UFC's title would be on the line, then hinting that NO title would be on
the line, period, then going back to only the UFC title being on the line.

Dana White might blame the internet "rumors" and MMA dirt sheets for
spreading false news, but White, at least in this situation, is just as
guilty.

All anyone has to do is search the internet for the older news articles
and they will see this statement is a LIE. He has never said anything of
the sort "all along".

So now, the UFC 75 superfight between Jackson and Henderson is a
UNIFICATION bout. At least for the time being.

This also casts HUGE doubt on PRIDE FC actually returning. If PRIDE were
expected to return by the new PRIDE World Wide (Zuffa), you'd think the
PRIDE title would be a separate title like Boxing has in nearly all of
it's divisions. Why a SINGLE title makes a fighter the undisputed champion
of one weight division or another makes no sense whatsoever. A champion in
MMA should have to fight multiple champions to separate himself from the
pack as THE Undisputed Champion of any one weight class, just like Boxing
does. In Boxing, though, politics and "Top 10" manipulation have prevented
a true Undisputed Champion in the Heavyweight, as well as other, division
for many years now. MMA could make it work, and the fans deserve it. A
single "Unified, Undisputed UFC World Light Heavyweight Championship" is a
terrible precedent to set for a sport on the verge of main-stream
acceptance.

It's not all about the UFC, after all, it's about the sport of MMA.

Hopefully this is the last "Flip-Flop" by the UFC President on this issue,
but I have a feeling it's not.

I was going to start a new thread yesterday regarding the Silva/Liddell stuff, but knew that it would turn out to be a rumour only.

Personally, I am more interested in Alves Vs Hironaka. That is some great matchmaking right thurr.

Re Ortiz's back pain, this could be a major contributing factor in that his performances are fairly average to watch of late - He certainly doesn't appear to be the 'hungry' fighter he once was.

Re Unification/titles/who-said-what-and-when = Who cares anymore? Get the top eight (or however many) light-heavyweights in the world from Pride/UFC/wherever and have them compete in a tournament like the days of old. Hell, make it all weight divisions. Imagine that. Pretty sure it'd be a money-maker.

Super excited that Blake is on the new season of the TUF show. He's about 4-1 for his MMA record, not 0-0, though. Apparently there's only two weeks left of filming for the show, so the season should start on TV pretty soon.

Anyone else here known Blake from the Upstanding****ingcitizens.com forums ???
