hi guys, I've been reading everybody's posts for the past several days congratulating Gurkan and sending commiserations to Stan. I hadn't written 'cos I was still taking it all in. I watched ****in' history on monday the 17th of february! I visited Stan's web site a couple of days ago and wrote a letter to him through it. I asked him if he would keep doing movies, if the fight videos that were sold through IK and Blitz are still available through his site, and if he's considered writing a book about his life and career, like kostya has. I know that wasn't the Stan of old, but I was glad to see him fight one last time. Like I said to him in the letter, it's always a joy to watch him fight because win, lose or draw, he's always, ALWAYS, gracious in victory OR defeat, and he'll always be "THE MAN".
As for Gurkan, what can you say? he fought the type of fight I always wanted to see him fight. He fought with courage as always, but he fought with so much intelligence, I began to see him going the distance, then I saw him winning the latter rounds and when I saw Stan's lead leg swollen like it was, I thought I was going to see something special, spectacular, and ironic, and boy did I ever.
People, take your hat off to BOTH fighters, they both deserve it, and let's appreciate fighters like Gurkan for what they give to the sport, before he retires and it's too late. Let's hope that when Gurkan retires, he doesn't have to go through the heartbreak Stan did. No legend should have to retire like that, for their own sake, not ours, because we'll remember them for everything they were, not just their last bout.
Looking forward to Gurkan's future fights and Stan's future movies. BTW, did anybody else think Trojan Warrior should've been called "The Man" instead?? :)
