Guys - after rading Sukuks feed a number of topics ago - and having chatted to a few boys who are close to the inner circle - there is a growing rumor that the fight had a 'staged' element to it???
I am only passing on comments not making up or stating fact so dont rip me to shreds over this one!
The comment was that Stan was to 'lose' - so he could stage a come back 'Greek Revenge' theme later in the year - with 2 fights left under contract with Solak - and the mid year K1 seemingly locked in - it leaves one more for another Tarik money making venture for the boys!
Paul C - is there any truth in the rumor that Ozkan rushed across to Stans corner after the fight to quietly ask how he was - with Stan smilingly saying he was OK? - that you know of??
Again not starting rumors but letting you all know what the talk is about in some inner circles
Janer etc - it would be interesting if you had the 'guts' to ask Ozkan about this??

Krama,
I don't believe it was staged for a second.
I spent pretty much an entire afternoon with them at the weigh-in. Both were respectable to each other, but you could sense also a tention building which seemed very real to me.

I was at the weigh in aswell which was a public venue. I had to go home when the fighters all met up inside the hotel suites where paul had been. Paul would have a better view of the seriousness of the build up to the fight and I believe him.
I have spoken to Gurks before and after the fight and his words meant alot. He spoke of the hard work he had put in and this one fght would sum up what he has done in 65 fights. It has the perfect grounds for a rematch. It maybe was too good to be true. I still cant get over it and still cant see why stan couldnt answer what Gurks threw at him.
However Gurkan did fight the perfect fight. Well done Gurkan!
PS - Krama, i dont think anyone would have the bulls to post the truth if it is what you are saying!!!<img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle>

I went out back to see Stan he more or less said he felt like he did not want to be in the ring after the 5th round, and said God has him to do other things..he more or less said that was his last fight and that Gurkan won fair and square, he said he would have loved to have continued but his leg, knee was pretty sore he had ice packs on them...it all seemed very real to me..Stan was very upset that he had lost...I was to emotional and dumb founded like everyone else that was there......
We are just going to have to see what happens now...
I hope he has a come back and fights Gurkan in his last fight deal with Tarik, give him a fight to get his hunger back.....

"is there any truth in the rumor that Ozkan rushed across to Stans corner after the fight to quietly ask how he was - with Stan smilingly saying he was OK? - that you know of??" end quote
To answer that question, watch the fight (i saw it on pay per view and taped it). At the end, turn up the volume, and watch as Gurkan runs up to Stan's corner, you can hear it for your self.
Lucy, I agree it looks like Stan didn't wanne be there, but what is pretty stupid is brother George Longinidis encouraging Stan in between rounds to conserve energy in attempt to go the distance of ten rounds. I still believe if Stan's corner stuck to their game plan as the first round it would have ended very quickly, but they didn't and something seems fishy.

Guys, get real.
It would be very odd if Gurkan didn't go up to Stan and ask if he's OK.
I've seen this done dozens of times.
S*hit, I've seen a fighter get on his knees and not get up untill he saw his knocked out opponent open his eyes.
As far as I'm aware, it's the NORM, rather than the exception.
Hey, I've even heard a fighter appologize to the other fighter for hurting him more than on one occasion. The fight was still very real.
I think people on this board are searching for something that is just not there. I thought before the fight that Gurkan wouldn't win and if he did, people will just come out and say it was rigged or find some conspiracy theory.
Like Jezze Belle and Paul said, it's called being a sportsman.
Hey even Tyson tried to catch an opponent from falling down after he had just knocked him out and showed concern for him.
it was like when Zam ko'd the kid, I am short that when they where fighting he wanted to kill him, but when he was ko'd Zam looked concerned.

Rigged????? Stan??????? Gurkan?????????
You got more chance of Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and George Bush going on a pub crawl than that happening.
Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
