This is the dude that invented the style.
It's supposed to be the strongest form of Karate.

I just googled it and got this. Fairly descriptive.

What exactly do you want to know justme?
I wouldn't call it 'power kickboxing', we fight bare knuckles and as a result no head punches.
Have to fight to get black belt.
In Japan its brutal, they do 100 man kumite as tests.
I don't think they fight anyone twice...
And it is Kyokushinkaikan.

Oops!..my bad. Is it the same as John Taylors style?? i understand that 'kyokushin' is the style, and 'kai' is karate, but what's the 'kan' for?

December issue of International Kickboxer has a profile on Big Bens Gym. Mentions that Ben Chua, Mark "Hammer" Castagnini, Sam Greco, John Hallford all did kyokushin. You would think there must be something good about this style of martial art given their success.

DazMon, I thought you may have known a bit about this. I have heard that Kyokushinkaikan gyms are amongst the toughest going around and really sort the men from the boys.
Are there many who pass the 100 man Kumite? I know that Sam Greco and Francisco Filho have passed, but it a faily common thing?

Actually Dimebag its very related.
Hiro have only seen 100 man (hyaku nin) kumite mentioned
in Japanese mags in LARGE letters!
And that is where the gaijin do it, at hombu.
They have to win 75% or something of the fights, and a lot are brutal coz they want to finish the rounds early, so even though they are tired they pull out that super technique to finish someone fresher than they are, a lot of them are sweeps with mock finish technique.
Filho did the 100 man, the next day took his parents to Tokyo Disneyland.
Kyokushinkaikan: kan = place

i fought and trained with this style for many many years. yes it teaches great discipline and a very distinctive fight style but there is one very prominent downfall when compared to kick boxing and that is the fact you learn to fight with your hands down. i had a lot of trouble going from doing 15 years of this to kickboxing because of it.

Power Karate is Shihan Jim Phillips who I'd recommend, he is in the Union and is a dedicated instructor. Shihan Taylor is also a kyokushin legend and a great source of inspiration.
