I read a review about this movie, and apparently it's pretty good. There's solid MUAY THAI action, not the **** that tries to pass as muay thai in other B-grade martial arts movies. Not the greatest acting, but it's a good pop corn flick. The story centers around a boy who lives in a village and is a master muay thai exponent. One day, foreigners arrive at the village and try to buy a sacred object, but are refused by the village elders. The foreigners then cut off the village's Buddha statue's head and take off with it to Bangkok. The villagers feel the the village will be cursed if they do not get it back, so the boy volunteers to get it back. He goes to Bangkok, hooks up with a comedic sidekick, meets a girl, kicks a lot of ass ala the big boss, working his way up amongst the rank of baddies until he meets the final big bad boss. tuk-tuk chase sequences, back-alley muay thai fights, it sounds awesome. The best thing about all the action, which is non-stop, is that the boy kicks everybody's ass using raw muay thai techniques, which will be very satisfying to see.
The subtitles are a little crappy, but it doesn't hurt the movie. Check it out if it's playing near you. The trailer is for realplayer, check it out. If you don't have realplayer, download it. It's quick, and it's worth it. Can't wait to see this flick, should be fun. Here's the URL for the trailer, you'll see a section for "movie trailers", three movie titles, one of which is "The Ring", click on the movie title just right of "The Ring", there's two, it's the lower one, and that's the trailer you want. Not the best quality, but good enough. Next time somebody says they don't like muay thai, you guys know what to do, hehe. Enjoy.

Ong Bak was screened in Thailand at the beginning of 2002,
It Features Traditional Muay Boran techniques and forms as part of the lead characters training. Ong bak was also screened as part of the Melbourne International Film festival last year.
In my opinion the best part of the film is the Tok Tok chase through the streets of Bangkok

Hey Guys. I have seen ONG BAK in Thailand & although I didnt understand a word I followed the storyline & let me tell you the lead actor (Tony Jaa)is awesome. He is an ex stunt man & it would be hard for you to believe when you see the film that no wires or digital imagery was used in any scenes - this guy is a freak. Some of the best fight scenes you will ever see!!!
Anyway it will be released through all major cinemas Australia wide March 10, fully remastered & with sub titles so make sure you check it out. Also look for a cameo by non other than our own Nick "Special K" Kara who features in a full on fight scene with Ting played by Tony Jaa. Nick is wearing a terrible wig but isnt too hard to pick out. You can watch a full trailer of the film on the official Australian website www.ongbak.com.au

take a look at the following reviews...RottenTomatoes is the best net based review site as it collects dozens of US critics from the papers and other press.

I saw Ong Bak in a cinema in Singapore in December 2003. Why has it taken so long for Australia to show it? I think its hitting the Aussie cinemas on March 10th. Its a pretty good movie, no ring fighting scenes but its action in the streets and variuos locations in Thailand.

Guys there is another movie soon to be released in Thailand, i think the name of the movie will be 'Muay Thai Chaiya' showcasing some of the Muay Chaiya techniques. I have been told it will be a lot more realistic than Ong-Bak. Good exposure for Thai martial arts.

This is strange, Ong Bak as mentioned by Rav and Mei Hua has been out since early 2002. It has also been available at dvd stores for a few years now through Golden Eye after Luc Besson the famous french producer got his hands on it. It also played here in Adelaide at an independent cinema so it just seems strange that its now reappering?
