Yeah the Japs have been doing this to us for years they love to test your spirit first to see whether they will ask you back to fight.
Adam Watt's first fight in Japan in fact his first 5 were world champs! Paul Smith had a tough initiation there I think this year, Mark Hunts first fight in K1 Japan was JLB! Fresh as a regional champ they throw him arguably to the toughest guy first up! Cedric Kongaika had his first ever fight there and they put him as a Novice vs Fujimoto! Not to mention plenty more aussies who have had baptisms of fire in Japan its in their nature so good luck Serin give it your all and do your country proud!

Australian kickboxer Serin Murray arrived in Japan today just in time for her special rules bout against Megumi Fujii on Smackgirl's 11/29 card. Murray spoke to the press at her arrival and commented on her upcoming bout: "I'm glad to be in Japan, the country of bushido. Fujii has a lovely face, but I'm going to have to punch it. She's a very good grappler and I respect all that she's done, her career, but I've studied her game. I come from a Karate background, so striking will be very important to me. I hope to knock her out, so that's what you should expect."

Here and now we are gone in a heartbeat, a dream in the passage of time. Chances are fading, this world isn't waiting, the moment is passing you by...
Sorry Lothene I should think before I talk! But I dont like to do that, too much effort involved!!!
Im guesssing it's the pig's time to go huntin' I better watch myself.
Similar to AFL in Melbourne or NRL on grand final week I reckon thousands would turn out to watch the team train.
Get the calendar going get some money back into these girls and Blitz/IK's pocket to develop our sport why not everyone else does it Firefighters, police, league, union, afl, womens soccer, it may help promoted the sport and if it helps some of these girls financially so they can train more then Im sure everyone wins!

Hey GOGOsounds ok bit sexist and some girls amy not want to be seen as objects but it would help promote as a soccer fan I noticed how much publicity it got the Australia womens team when they did a calendar it doesnt even have to be raunchy.
Good idea hope Hammer and The Voice hear it and like your idea

BJJ/ wrestling/ grappling is so complex most mma fighters train in it for years before they even attempt nO rules/MMA fights so Serin should be commended for having the Balls??!! to take on such a legend in her own backyard. Good on you serin

Reports are saying that she suffered a nasty leg injury as a result of the leg lock. Kudos for taking opportunities when they arise, but I hope that blind ambition hasn't ruined this girls career.
Serin, shame about the loss buty i hope that you are not injured to bad and get right back into it.
she you soon.
Dawm those Ankle locks!!!!
I will never say a bad word about Serin or Rob Murdoch but it goes past having balls, BJJ/grappling is career ending at times and should not be jumped into! I commend them for takin on the best but silly to fight grappling with one weeks experience!!!!
There is a fine line between balls and stupidity, I started boxing yesterday can I get as fight with Mundine tomorrow(sorry I had to compare realistically)
I nearly had my shoulder destroyed by accident the first time I rolled with a BJJ/grappling gun and I was an undefeated heavyweight kickboxer at that time!!! THe guy was 70 kgs and wasnt even tryin I just rolled the wrong way and could have been in for a total reconstruction, ouch!
Take lesson from this ppl locks are very painful and if cranked on CAN snap limbs!!
Good luck Serin hope your not too injured and recover well.

If I were to say where I trained now it would kind of blow this whole secret identity thing I have happening.
I used to train at Yuki Nakai's Paraestra gym in Japan.
Exactly my point samuaythai but after a week or three of ground training you still dont know what your limits are. You may feel pain and cos of lack of knowledge say to yourself I can get out of this (or this isnt that painful) next thing snap crackle pop and its not a bowl of cocoa pops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought i could take a grappler being an ex footy player who was strong and can tackle and prevent tackles being effected on me ! I had a year or two of boxing and was an undefeated heavyweight kickboxer THEN I went to my mate who is an experienced wrestler, BJJ purple belt, MMA fighter who weighs 70kg's.....
...In one hour I had zero self esteem in relation to my fighting prowess!!!!!!! Despite 10yrs rugby league and union I was taken down at will most times before I got one clean shot away and was subjected to the most painful experiences, shoulder lock accidently nearly ripped my shoulder off, ankle locks, choked unconscious, knee bar and was entatively introduced to heel hook my mate was even reluctant to show a beginner heel hook as it is so lethal in the wrong hands could cripple someone!!!
So please ppl dont be heros train in MMA and understand at least what the pains you feel are so you know when to tap please.
Hope your well Serin and if you wanna cotinue in MMA contact me Ill put you in contact with some ppl who will help you on your path

Seriously, your friend sounds like a moron if he was using some of those moves against noobies - especially heel hooks. No one under a purple belt should be allowed to utilise heel hooks on the open mat when training in my opinion.
They are extremely dangerous and not knowing how to properly defend the technique can lead to disasterous consequences, especially when rolling with novices.
Hiro I wanted to see what it was like he didnt just slap em on he eased them all on and explained what he was doing and how it works ut it was still painful and demoralising feeling so helpless.
As if someone so good would just start bashin an egg!!!
He is now Brown belt and I believe does not even show heel hook to ppl it was just I specifically asked him as I am a long tiome mate he obliged!!
Chill out Hiro get the facts first then start throwing off

Hi, we're home. Bit of an uncomfortable 9 & 1/2 hour trip.
We are NOT stupid, i'd do it again next week if i could. I'm proud of what i have acheived in such a short period of time (anyone who saw the fight knows i got myself out of a much more potentially nastier knee popper so anyway.... put it this way after i hit her she dove - she certainly didn't want to stand & trade)
I do NOT have a career ending injury just a snapped tendon or 2! No plaster, i'm walking already & will be back at training doing whatever i can to get back in there UNDER MMA RULES or whatever i can get asap.
Thanks Mick & Dits & everyone who sent us messages of support, i reckon between us we had about 30 texts when we got off the plane this morning...... I'll be back!!
Good on you Serin

Hiro-- Blind Amition?!! You WILL see me again be sure of that. A loss is a loss & i am big enough to take my first MMA loss to Megumi Fugi however it happened.... as long as i continue to learn from it.
Yeah so anyway i was even still going to Nick Stones show tonight (sorry for not timekeeping Paul) then just made the decision to stay home & rest as i probably should.... But i'm just about over watching Smackgirl DVD's already!
So i just read the thread again as i only skimmed over it at Rob's when we got home earlier & i just wanted to add for the record that the above Japanese interpretatons are a HUGELY loose version & jumbled mixture of answers to a whole bunch of questions i was asked in little lead up interviews from what i remember. The only time i had a direct interpreter (i cannot remember his name but he was the coolest guy!) was in the official pre interview prior to my fight. I beleive the event was/is broadcast on japansports & was held inside the Tokyo Dome apparantly the same ring used for the K1 tomorrow?? It was all a blow out, every second of it!! We met some real cool people over there, Mandy Stewart i already admire you mate thank you & a special shout out to Pina & Beck Attwood - you'll see her in action soon hopefully ;)
Like i said, would be back in there again next week if i physically could, i still beleive i can beat her so the more time i am given to learn the ground the better shot i have obviously.... I will be training & fighting alot more of both now.
And thanx for the flattery um that photo was taken at the airport by somebody?! as soon as we got off the 9 hour flight which i had just been sick on YUK haha!!

Serin hope you didnt take offece to my comments I was merely warning others to prepare b4 fighting such a good grappler as It COULD lead to a career threatening injury Id love to see you do 6 months of sprawls and takedown defence then rematch her ala a CHuck LIddel I reckon youd be very hard to stop in MMA once yopu cant be taken down!!
Good on you and hope they take my idea for a calendar and you get some royalties from it!!! It'd help out with training maybe IK cou;ld give all the girls involved a free trip to IK tour in Thailand!!!!!!!

Thanx Trent. I know Ajarn Chai does have a great knowledge of training thai boxers into mma fighters & vise versa, i have seen him adapt his teaching for different fighters first hand in his seminars.
I'd love to try to get something organised for when he is out next year - maybe like a one-off just for girls or something, i know a fair few girls involved in fighting on all levels now in this country & there is a huge base for expanding so yeah maybe just get some kind of an idea of who would be interested.
Wonder if theres a photo of the shot i landed on her chin(?!!) before she got down to redesign my ankle hehe?!
Edited by - SERiN on 01 Dec 2006 19:37:53
Yes I spoke with Ajarn briefly on it at a seminar at Pitbull gym where I used to train years ago he trained afew of his Yanks to come from strking to MMA and from memory he was saying... (although he nmay change his opinion now he has had more experience in MMA as its beenj around longer)...to front kick and low kick but to practice sprawling heaps cos off balance when kick thats when htey take you down and to clinch and knee but get a base balance so you are hard to take down and kick kick sprawl then knee once they shoot and you are sprawling on them.
Good luck with it watch Chuck L:idddel he is the best in the world at keeping it on the feet and hurting grapplrs with his strikes. Any UFC dvd should have him on it he da man at takedown defence and MMA striking.
Tony would have been a good teacher for you and my mate Luke Piklum who is fighting tonighjt on KOTC is awesome he is associated to Bruno Pannos team in Sydney for BJJ and they have heaps of NO rules fighters

Ajarn Chai=Over rated.
The guy knows stuff but is very outdated in his thinking.
GoGo your right about Chuck Liddel However.
"Death always came with the territory, see you in Disneyland". Richard Ramirez.
Yeah that was three yrs ago Chai said that but I thought he was wrong as kicking is a no no in no rules mostly boxing and grappling with knees as when you kick especialloy high you are off balance and very susceptible to being taken down by a good wrestler.
These days the guys train kicks but not anywhere near as much as BJJ, wrestling, boxing(more powerful hand punching than sweet science boxing) and knees neck/standing wrestling.
Its a lot of training that is why some MMA guys train for years before fighting where strikers are in there alot quicker as only punches and kicks to worry bout bit less complex.
Lets hope MMA and kickboxing thrive in Australia bring back NSW and QLD k1's and have qualifiers for our guys to get to NZ and KOTC will continue to grow from strength to strength

quote: I'd say that being a pad holder is up there as one of the dream jobs in the world imagine an ALL STAR womens fight team touring o/s and being the pad holder...Steph Bouquet, Serin Murray, Latasha Marzolla, Tenille May, Laila Ali, Leigh Ann Banham, Angie Parr, Thi Nguyen, Sandy Furner. (If I've forgotten anyone no offence!!)
Meaning little or no disrespect but I could hardly classify Thi Nguyen an "ALL STAR" women fighter. She only has one fight to her name against Jade Carroll from J.N.I.s Gym, and it was only a demo anyway! This was in May and she hasn't fought since. To put her in top class with the likes of Steph Bouquet, Serin Murray, Angie Parr and Sandy Furner is somewhat insulting.
Point taken Jason but I was referring to ALl star looks team I couildnt give a sh*t bout their fight skills was merely referring to eyecandy as the pad holder!!!

Why do people in here keep talking about doing what Chuck Liddell does? The only reason why Chuck can do what he does is because the UFC ref's don't care that he gropes and hangs off the UFC cage like a monkey (Which you cant do in Japan, because Smackgirl & the other promo's use a ring). Secondly, Chuck was an all-state wrestler. He wasn't a kickboxer who trained to sprawl over a 6 month period.
Point taken Adam wont make that point again I know the go cos even Belfort is BJJ black, Vanderlei trains BJJ and Crocop and Hunt too basically without min 1 yr on the ground training and expereince your gonna lose MMA match if your a striker unless the MMA guy wants to stand and bang only but that very rare and stupid for the ground expert!!
