Well watched the full card. Crowd attendance was good (damn people turn up at the end of the show, what up with that). Venue was great. We saw some of aussie's top boxers but there fights didn't last long (matchups ??). Dissapointing that JJL had to stop because of the ear drum as i would have liked to see Kostya display more of his skills in front of his home crowd. The only dissapointment was to many onesided fights.
BTW saw a few kickboxing identities Tasis Petridis, Micheal Vukovic, Kelly Seif (think it was him), Gurkan Ozkan (with a black eye) & Bob jones.

I went to the fight with a friend and have to say we were happy with Leija's performance.. as I was very concerned by the apparent media talk of him - it wasn't going to last long.
Contrary to this - he took the fight to Tszyu and showed no respect once the bell rung (which we enjoyed.. no walkover).
Yes the undercard appeared lopsided.. but that I guess is how a fighter builds the impressive record.
I was displeased though with a quote of the main event :
“The three judges had the champion ahead - 60-54, 59-55, 58-56 - when Leija's father called a halt to the bout.”
This I gotta say is not true.. as although I'm a Tszyu fan it wasn't that lopsided.
Well these are my thoughts.. can't wait for the 'Pound for Pound King' Roy Jones vs John Ruiz this March.

I told everyone here last week the card was a joke, and full of mismatches.
Some tried to have a go at me, but I was proven 100% correct.
For what its worth, I thought Tszyu looked sluggish and flat, perhaps age is catching up with him?
Thats two fights in a row now that Leija has quit, which is humerous considering 3 fights ago he called then opponent Camacho Jr everything under the sun for quitting in their fight.

I thought JJL took early rounds and then Kostya started to get going. Maybe he (kostya) was sluggish as some reported that he had difficulty getting to the weight!

What a crap undercard. Seriously mismatched.
Now we know why Tarik has made it big. Vlad wartonhas no idea on what makes a good night. Sure knockout are entertaining, but knocking out mongoloids isnt fun.

i do agree undercard could have maybe been better however at the same time u have to give credit where credit is due they did win holiday an experienced compainer got sent on a holiday by the uzb fighter wow can he fight only 10 pro fights watch him for next couple of years to come! briggs well he sent kelly to sleep who traded gloves with roy j jnr another classy fighter goin up and up too strong! green well he showed y he could mix it with mundine and beat him! mayo went 10 with the man and couldnt last it with the green machine makes u wonder y mundine is dodging him?? as for el nino against hussein well that was 1 sided but the guy needs a title shot bad he's not bein promoted well enough!as the american comentator stated he has called nearly 10000 fights and never seen a body puncher better than him and to his credit he is fine so where is his title shot?after 27 fights? kt vs jjl well things happen but kt was starting to turn up the boost on his internal turbo and that was evident end of 4th 5 and 6th rounds i feel he may have wanted to put on a show for all of us at home i mean wasnt it electric in the stadium!tysons crowd only ever got to 19,000 where a junior lightweight fight attracted over 28,000 shows alot and i feel tszyu wanted to put on a real spectacle and ko jjl in the latter rounds now what a finish that would have been!no disrespect to jjl what a embassidor for the sport a true gentleman he did come out well and put some good shots up to kt! what happened to chagaev the heavy weight that was meant to fight vadder from the u.s?
anyhow hope to see tszyu rock melb once again!!!

Tony S,
You certainly did call it buddy.
After the last Briggs fight I was hoping we'd see someone go a little longer than last time's first round. This is not in no way criticising Paul and Rod W, I'm sure they didn't match the fight.
That was the first time I've seen Danny Green fight other than just seeing highlight clips of him. He looks like a damn hard hitter.
Janer,
hehe,
too funny.
The Briggs fight was a mismatch but the referee shouldn't have stopped it when he did. It should have been a standing eight count at most. Briggs was starting to find his mark and it could be argued that he was about to knock out his opponent, but I guess we will never know now. Thanks Ref!
Couldn't see much in Gold Class. I would have been better of saving my $180 and having a better view from the grand stand. Glad I went though.
I saw Gurkans black eye. Must be training hard.

If we are really being honest this was a huge chance for Aus. fighters to promote themselves in a pay per view event. In my opion and for some others that I talked to the undercards were really badly mis-matched. The main event was also a bit of a dissapointment. It seemed like JJL was content just to do his six rounds and collect his pay check. I didn't really see a win at all costs attitude from him.Afterall if he had won he would now hold all three titles and would only need one more fight to retire with a few dollars under his belt. Props go to Zu however, he is a great champ.
