hey Fellow forum members, I thought Id take the focus of kickboxing for a little while. Are any of you guys going to the kostya fight this sunday morning? Im worried i might sleep in!

It should be a good show as Nader Hamdan, Danny Green and Paul broggs will be on the undercard. I guess if you dont go, you could watch the replay on channel 7.

Kostya Tszyu is one of the world best boxers. What a title to hold, and I guess noone can undermine that.

I'm now not going.

Very dissapointing.
I'll look out for all you regular guys on the tele though.

Yes Janer, what a title. Undisputed World Champion is friggen impressive.

Sorry I don't know that much about Boxing,
Is Kostya the first Aussie ever to hold all 3 major titles at once.

Hey Janner,

Will be there with bells on, really looking forward to seeing the undercards as well. Time to support the local boys.

It's about time Melbourne got a Boxing Match of this calibre

Looking for to seeing Tszyu in action live.

Did anyone read the Sunday Tele in Sydney, it mentioned that Briggs was supposed to spar mundine but turned up at the gym only to find it locked!

Anyway, Briggs sparred Green and apparently all the insiders and even Paul admitted afterwards that Green got the better of him

The card is terrible.

The whole thing is full of mismatches, including the main.

If you want to see an "event", with a world class fighter in Tszyu, sure, go.

But dont hold your breath for great matchups.

what planet r u on tony?????

Tony S

what planet? this one!

Lets look at the card:

Tszyu v Leija: JJL has no hope in this one. He is borderline top 10 at best, was given a gift against Ward, the cut was caused by a punch. Ward is ordinary at best. This fight could get real messy - easy handpicked opponenet for Tszyu's return. Tszyu is genuine A level material.

Roslan Chagaev (Uzb) Vs David Vedder (USA)
Tuneup, record-padder for one of Vlad Whartons Russians. Look up their records.

Paul Briggs Vs Brad McNeil: Absolutely disgusting matchup. Total mismatch - McNeil is a bum at best. Briggs-Begini anyone?

Paul Smallman Vs Alexej Trofimov (Ukr)
Record padder for another one of Whartons Russians. Enough said.

Danny Green Vs Brad Mayo
They bagged choc for fighting Mayo, now this is the best Green can get? No chance for Mayo here.

Kuvanych Toygonbayen (Uzb) Vs Alfonso Mosquera (Panama)
ANOTHER record padder for Vlads Russian. Look up the respective records if you like.

Muhammad Abdullaev (Uzb) Vs Philip Holiday
Abdullaev is super hot at the moment, and again is Vlads fighter he is protecting. Holiday has a name, but is finished. Sad, but probably the best matched fight on the card.

Gairy St Clair Vs TBA
Too scared to fight Omally hay Gairy? TBA is always a dangerous opponent!

Nedal Hussein Vs Samson Elnino
This guy Hussein is fighting is rated TWELVE in INDONESIA, the champion of Indonesia is hopeless - what the hell will the 12th ranked fighter be? Disgusting!

There you have it Qupancy, if that isnt a mismatched card, Im George W. Bush!

People have short memories - remember after Tszyu lost, Wharton put those monster 10-12 fight cards full of mismatches for his guys? They were shocking.

Well, nothing has changed, obviously.

Who is promoting this show. It is obious that such events will make money, so why dont we see more of them? What are the politics involved that are staving us of these huge events?

matt it is simple buddy here is ur answer
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yea, JJL was a good fighter, tough fighter who has fought some names, but he is now finished. The ward fight proved that. Gatti, also a past his best brawler, recently easily disposed of Ward. Look at the betting - Tszyu is in no danger in this fight.

Next your going to say chavez was a great when he fought Tszyu. JLL is washed up, as Chavez was. Dont kid yourself.

Qupcy - Im not going to the fights, no need. Will watch em on TV, I already know who is going to win all of em. I would much rather pay good money for a local, well matched show, rather than total blowouts.

Why dont we have more big shows like this? Easy, money. This sort of show isnt really feasible, but it is because SHOWTIME in the US are paying the purses for the fighters. There is no way the local market can afford to pay Tszyu the 2 million that he is getting, play Leija's purse.

Yes, I heard Ozkan sparred Choc. Dunno why to tell you the truth. Improving his hands wont help Ozkan with Stan, leg kicks are the problenm, and I cant see how Ozkans hands are even in the same league as chocs - that sort of sparring wouldnt help either fighter I wouldnt have thought, but thats just my opinion.

well good sources say that choc copped a few left hooks from the fighting machine that he couldnt adapt to! choc is good but no where near the best yet!remember ozkan went the distance with briggs who has knocked all his opponents recent one being kelly who tried to trade gloves with jones jnr last year if u recall, so ozkan getting his hand speed up is a great advantage for him why worry about trading leg kicks when it could take one quick punch and he could add stan to his great 31 ko first round record!!!!

QUPNCY, haha good point but man he has to think about legs aswell! As for the Hurricane, wasnt Ozkan the first and only fighter to last with briggs in boxing?

QUPNCY

And wasn't Gurkan the one that knocked out Paul Briggs!!! years back.

ozkan knocked out briggs under full thai rules I think it was, in a fight just before he fought jacobs, late 95/early 96. I remember jacobs was matched up against solimon, but they didn't fight that night. they fought later, where jacobs broke his damn fibula, or tibula, and kept fighting. briggs won the first round, but in the second, ozkan landed something like eight unanswered punches and knocked him the f*** out! ask michael schiavello, he wrote the report on IK, he was there. briggs won in the rematch, but I don't think that was revenge. the way ozkan knocked him out was brutal. Mike Schiavello, could you please refresh out memories???......
