Hi i am a relative newcomer to the sport of kickboxing and think that i am hooked. I go to almost every Melbourne event and train 4 nights a week. I am however going around the world next June and will be staying in Thailand for the last leg of this trip. I really want to train there and hopefully learn alot more about muay thai-(because the majority of my training is just kickboxing.) Just wondering if anyone can recommend any gym's that i could train at in thailand- particularly with close or on-site accomodation that i can stay at!

Thanx Heaps- Rickstar

Where in Thailand are you going that will determine where you can stay there is many camps all over the place, give me some sort of plan and i will see if i can help out as i have been going there since 93..

Well Marc-
I am reasonably blind to Thailand, being that i have never been there and my knowledge on the best places to stay is not great either. I have been told about the WMC camp in Koh Samui but have yet to research that one. Basically i am open to any suggestions on both locations of the gyms and the specific gym. As long as the issue of accomodation can be addressed and the level of training is good then i am happy. Any suggestions on either Thailand travel and Muay Thai in general would be greatly appreciated

Thanx again- Rickstar

If you are there to train, train. Don't go to bars even though the amount of girls will distract you.
First time suggestions could be Sityodtong, Lana, Koh Sumi. Maybe the second time you might want to go to a camp where there is no "farang" and is less of a "holiday" camp (I can only speak for Sityodtong, but that did get pretty touristry- no disrespect intended though).
Train hard and you'll get more pad work. Don't skip any of the runs and remember to push yourself.
Try and learn some Thai phrases (hello, thank-you, what's your name etc?), I find this to be respectful and it always gets a smile + it's not too hard.
It is a wonderful country with great people and great food!!
Hope this helps a little.

All of your advice is taken on board. I do plan to train hard and learn as much as possible in the time i am there. If you have any details of the camps or locations that you mentioned then could you please forward them to me and i will start the planning for my training.

Thanx alot mate- Rickstar
