View Full Version : stans 2nd fight
any opinions?i think tosca petridis sounds safe,he is the same age as stan and it would be nice and cheap for tarik to organize.also off the topic i am new to this sport but had heard off a world kickboxing champion called stan"the man"just curious who has he teally fought in his 20 yr career.i know he beat alexio but he hasnt even been in the k1.stan seems to not take risks and fight k1 champions hoost, lebanner ext he likes sure bets, while sam greco has fought these fighters.who is australias real champion.he says he gives anyone a go but does he really.any opinions.

No disrespect to STan, but Bob I do think Stan avoided many big fights with the k1 super stars. If he didnt avoid them, why didnt he fight them. anyone who can fill me in?
He fought in the early K-1's didn't he? 93-95? He fought bernardo more than once. He fought Hug. Cikatic. If the money was offered to him he probably would still be there fighting.

I've seen a Stan K-1 fight where he fought a Japanese fighter and was severely ripped off. Don't remember the guys name though.

paul can u only name one fighter and mind u they dont discriminate over there they love greco, hunt, watt, sefo they r all treated as kings over there so to say that tey ripped him off is saying that they r biased i dont think so!
They can be biased when you're fighting one of their guys. Paul, your probably talking about Stan vs Nakasako. Haven't watched it, just heard about it.

My brother an I used to train with Stan back in he mid90s at the old Fitzroy Stars. I trained under Bobby Scrivano at the time. My brother and his mate sparred Stan a lot and I saw most of his fights on tape when he brought them to the gym. Is Stan the next target for you guys (qupncy, JANER) to talk badly bout because hes Gurkans next oponent? The old days when he beat Alexio and fought Maurice Smith, Cicatik and Barker there was no such thing as K1. Alexio was the man to beat and Stan did what nobody else did period. In the early days of K1 which began in 94 I think he was one of the headliners along with Cicatik the croat he also fought in Melbourne, Hug, Aerts and Bernardo. He fought in 2 GP's. He fought most of the guys on the circuit of the time. Everybody knows Stan has been on the way out for the last few years and hasnt fought a lot and thinking of getting out of the sport and why not he's been at it since the 80's. People have bagged him in this time and called him old, over the hill and he should quit as people do when fighters are old veterans. Now you guys are saying he should go and start fighting all the guys like Lebanner and Hunt. Its lucky Stan is even fighting again AT ALL let alone getting back into the heayweight circuit. Stan has done more that most of us could dream guys and paid the price with the injuries so give a little credit. Most of us who have been hit in the ring know better than to bag guys who "made it", and if your wondering that goes for people who trash Gurkan and everybody else too.
Andrew,
Bout time someone made a decent contribution to this topic. Well said

Andrew - I also trained at Fitzroy Stars under the legendary Dana back in the nineties - Dana was one of the greatest gentlemen I've ever met - and his training style was brilliant - incorporating Mui Thai very heavily in his classes - he was a big advocate of the Thai style and always commented that a complete fighter MUST know the art of Mui Thai and it will be the future direction of the fighting game in Aust - anyway back to Stan, Andrew your comments are spot on -
The Aussie market suffers heavily from the "destroy the tall poppy syndrome" - put simply, I have yet to see ANY OTHER FIGHTER PERIOD!!!! bring in a 15,000 crowd EVER!!! - even the bloody K1 Tarik hosted last year in melbourne was not full capacity, forget the bul**** Tarik said about mucked up advertising on the footy show - we paid $40 for tickets and ended up sitting in $100 seats because the entire section was empty!!!
Simply accept that STan has done heaps for the sport, he is a GENUINE multi level World champ - Stan is highly respected in Japan as a fighter and an ambassador for the sport, and the great thing about the good old Stan days is he shut his critics up properly!! just ask Grant Barker.
Final statement - dig up some old veteran Stan fights - just after he came out of the Jet Centre - the Stan of old would simply wipe the floor with Ozkan - Ozkan HAS NEVER, AND WILL NEVER be at the level Stan HAS been at, ie: he will never have the same level of speed, power, technical ability and stamina, not forget brains, that STan had during his peak period.
Stan found it difficult to get decent fights because of his reputation, he built that up while training with Benny 'the Jet' at the jet Centre in the US - simply demolishing all fighters he encountered.
Also think about the following, add 1 foot, 10-15 kg's onto Zambidis and you have a modern day Stan - and we all know what Zam has done in Australia - he brings in a crowd - thats the key reason Tarik is controlling him in Australia - MONEY talks, bull**** walks in the Tarik camp. Imagine Zam at the height level of John Parr!
And all you die hard Ozkan fans, and again, I am NOT bagging Ozkan, Adam Watt showed too much respect in their last encounter END OF STORY!!! -

I still have a gigantic signed poster of stan pinned up in my garage. I didnt bag stan. I just asked for some history as Sam Greco was in the k1. Why wasnt stan? and this is not a Ozkan V STan thread.

QUPNCY,
Have you seen the fight?
I think Remy is correct in that it was Nakasako, but Nick will know because he made me the tape.
Yes, the Japanese crowds love the Oceania fighters.
Remy has said exactly what I felt, the crowds may love the fighters, but when someone is fighting a Japanese opponent the guys judging can be either pretty blind or extremely selective in what they see.
If you haven't seen the fight guys, try and check it out if you can. I'd honestly be interested in what your thoughts were. I felt Stan clearly won.
I'm going to see if I can find the tape.
If one of you guys has server access where they allow large files, please let us know if we can maybe use some space for a couple of weeks just so we can upload and discuss some fight vids online. Every time I try FTP'ing a whole round, I end up with some sort of FTP failure message at about 6 or 7 meg.
I have the JWP Vs Mike Zambidis fight digitized which heaps of people whom either don't have cable or live overseas would love to see.

Paul I dug up that article in an old Internatinal Kickboxer from a couple ears back, according to the mag it was Nagasako. Apparently they fought once before with Stan KOing him and in the rematch Stan dominated him totally again with the judges awarding a very bad draw. Aparently even Japanese media apologized to Stan!

It was Ozkan vs Keith Clewly (UK) at FESTIVAL HALL... a full house of around 4,000 or so if I remember... it was a huge night... Tibet Hamza also won a world title, Gerald Ilhan fought - it was big.

I can't believe that people are questioning Stan on this board, seems to be to many "newcomers" who wouldn't even know who Maurice Smith is.

To all the people who do not know Stan The Man, I have judged 90% of his fights here in Australia and found Stan to be the most Charismatic and a Outstanding Fighter & Ambassador for the sport Australia"s ever had Stan drew crowds all over Australia like know one has ever done,Maurice Smith was the best around
he fought and lost to Maurice Smith on points by a split decision at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney that would have been the biggest crowd Sydney has ever got in kickboxing 8,000 people..
Thanks Andrew P for your input on Stan without a doubt he was the best in the 90's and he has fought in K1 in Japan the
Japanese people love him, when he fights over there he would throw little Koala bears out to all the fans.
He has done more than enough for the sport here in Australia
FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KNOW HIM OR DO KNOW HIM GIVE HIM THE CREDIT & RESPECT HE DESERVES.......
Regards
Lucy Tui
i'VE HEARD THAT STAN HAS LOST TO TOSCA PETRIDIS MANY YEARS AGO ,CAN ANYONE CLARIFY THIS.THANKS

Let me tell you some facts about Stan & Tosca - firstly I have immense respect for both men both as fighters and as people, but way back in the days Stan & Tosca were sparring - with head gear - and Stan slammed a cracker into Tosca bursting his ear drum - I believe Tosca has hesitated in challenging Stan after this incident.

Lucy Tui, I have a question for you. The night Stan fought Maurice Smith in Sydney, Alex Tui also fought, didn't he?? he defended his WKA junior middleweight crown, but I can't recall against whom. Anyway, the real question is, I don't recall the fighters wearing shin pads, and this was way back circa 1990, if I recall correctly. Were the rules different back then?? if they fought in sydney now, they'd have to wear shin pads, right?? Thanks.

How old is Stan now, he would have to be close to 40
In his prime he was the best. Unquestionable, No Doubt about it.
And even at this age he is taking on a fight with Gurkan, who looks to be in the best condition he has ever been in (both in fitness and technique wise).
Stan is no where near the condition he used to be 10 years ago, when he was in his prime, but still remembering this, I believe Stan with punish Gurkan badly.
And he has all the reason in the world too, what more motivation do you need that a so call friend (Gurkan) trying to take all that you have achieved in your career away from you in one of your final fight.
I respect and am a fan of both these fighters, but just believe they shouldn't be in the same ring together.
I can believe Gurkan would agree to fight Stan, and for that reason I hope he gets a good beating.
Should be a ripper of a fight.......Cant Wait

I don't think these guys are taking this personally Dave.
These fighters are the no 1 and no 2 drawcards in Aus.
To me it makes perfect sense for this match up if wanting a large and successful show.
Sure Tarik could have had them both on the same card but fighting different fighters, but then that just wouldn't be the same, and wouldn't invoke as much passion from the supporters of both sides.
I think that Tarik would have had to bring over Alexio or Mo Smith to generate this much interest. Lets hope that we can still see one of those as the Final Stan FIght.
I think you're reading too much into the friends fighting thing.
I personally don't think it's going to cause any problems to either guy after the fight is over. They are both Super-Pro's.

I accept and respect your view DAWAVE. Stan was the worlds best Kickboxer and whenever I think kickboxing, I think stan. I am a diehard supporter of Ozkan but he is biting a little bit more than he can chew. Ozkan has alot of heart and power, I hope its enough for him not to go silly and make it a bad night.
I have bought tickets already with many of my freinds who are first timers. I hope Stan is fit and Gurkan looks competitive to backup what I have said foy years... Stan and Gurkan are both the most exciting fighters to watch in Australian kickboxing history for the last 10 years.
Did any of you guys see the sports report of Stan on channel 10 the other day?? Hehe I was puzzled and thought, kickboxing on free-to-air? I hope kb takes off...

Stan lost and drew with Satake.Sam Greco ko'd Satake in such devastating fashion that the guy was never the same.Stan has been around the K1 since the start when Branko Cikatic won.Stan has beaten Branko twice. My point is,that depending on the day of a fight, any of these guys can take each other out.Stan's record speaks for itself an he may be well passed his prime, but when he fights Gurkan,he might show some vintage kickboxing and destroy gurkan with his big leg kicks and looping hooks.

Gurkan looked pretty heavy for the fight with Adam Watt. I think I read he weighed in at about 88 or 89kg. I'm guessing a fight weight of 90kg for this next one.

Guys,
if your going to go for a good steriod, go with an oil base like Stanazol, its a great ripped agent used for horses in preparation for racing. The great beneift is that you have a very low sperm count and after use stop using the steriod your testicals will shrink. A great product for any ****er who can't do the hard work without help
For further information contact your local horse stable or local drug dealer.
John K

Stanazol is water based. And your testes MAY shrink. They grow back though.:)
