View Full Version : How bout a female Super 8?

How about it? There are more than enough great female fighters in Australia to compete in a Super 8 tournament(like K-1 max or Judgement Day). I've never seen a bad fight between two women yet. Even novice female fighters seem to work pretty clean technique, more so than many novice male fighters. Amy Birch, Laura Skinner, Stephanie Bouquet, Amanda Buchanan, Joanne Falzon, Julie Livet, just some names to fling around...You could still have a Semi main event between two popular world class male fighters before the womens final and a few other male undercard fights just to keep everyone happy! I would like to see more female fights and encourage more ladies to get out there and have some fun!!! What do YOU think

Harls, this is a brilliant idea. Only thing is, I am sure that most of the girls are seperated over a few different weights and I am sure it would be diffuclt to get all the girls fit and fighting on the same night!
But hey, good suggestion. I'd love to see it.

Hey Harls, this is a great idea. I actually know of someone who is considering putting one on.
I think it would go off. And I think the best weight would be at under 55 or 54kgs. There are many good female fighters at that weight. Also for girls heavier than that, would be under 65 or so. There are a few good fighters around that weight.
This wouldbe an awesome event. I'm hoping it comes through.
Cheers
Julie

I think a super eight comp for ladies is a terrific idea. I personally would like to see one around the 64-65kg mark. I am from the Boonchu gym myself and fight at around this weight. I would be very keen to be in a competition like this not only to gain experience but i think we could put on a good show.

Hey you promoters out there, listen up. The girls want to fight!!! Scrape together 10 grand, set up a venue, speak to the ladies and compromise on an a agreeable weight and rules, organise a top notch male semi main event, get on the phone to your sponsors and Fox sports and get the action happening! We don't see enough of our female fighters having a go out there and there will be plenty of interest garanteed!!! I'm sure everyone agrees, don't you people?

I'm sure you lovely ladies would put on one helluva show. Say Julie, are you still training out of the WMC camp with Stephan and Anarong? Just curious.

Hey Harls,
Amy and I promise that we would put on a great show. We are training together at the moment.
Yep we're both in Thailand at the moment, training at WMC Samui. It's Hanarong by the way. Yeh he is here holding pads for us every session. Still the biggest thai I have seen so far as well.
I will be training out of the Strikeforce gym with Mark Pease when I return to Australia next month. I'm hoping to have a big year in 2003.
I like the idea of the female Super 8, and I'm hoping that it happens next year. Thanx for the support Harls.

I think this would be much easier to organize as a KB4 type event.

Actually would be good to see two KB4s in the one night. A male and female version.

The $10,000 prize money is a bit optomistic.

A realistic figure may be $1000.

It'd have to be like $3000 to $5000 somewhere. Who wants to have 3 fights in one night and get a measly $1000. I'm sure promoters would put more on the line. There are 8 fighters. If you had to pay each fighter a prizemoney it would come to a lot more than $1000.

Sounds good Lucy, can't wait to see some of our national treasures mixing it up. I only suggested $10,000 winners purse for the winner because shows like judgement day, the purse is that amount and it wouldn't be fair to the ladies if they weren't offered the same. Though with a KB4 tournament, the girls would only have to fight twice as opposed to three times, and the winners purse could be reduced. As for all these posts, I'm glad there are plenty of others interested in the idea!

Harls, not meaning to sound sexist, but I'm not sure it would be an easy sell as say Judgement Day or K1 Max would.

I'm sure there are some great women fighters, but I doubt there going to draw the same crowd numbers on there own, so I imagine the purse will be a bit less then what the male version could offer.

Unless of course the promoter finds someone willing to pay the purse through sponsorship.

I imagine it has nothing to do with any equality pay issues, but rather how many tickets are expected to sell.

I totally understand where you are coming from Paul. If you read my original topic post, I also suggested a top notch male semi main event to be fought before the womens final and possibly after another bout after the first rounds of female fights, just to keep the chauvenistic type fans happy as well. I think after an event like this one suggested, female kickboxing would be more respected and appreciated, simply because female kickboxing has very little exposure in Australia and an event like this would give the girls a chance to show the crowd and audience at home(if broadcast on fox sports)what they've missing out on. Aussie girls CAN fight damn well!!!!!

Absolutely,

I think that Fox would probably like the idea very much.
It would have to be televised, cause I'm certain that it would be a world first.

I put in a reply earlier but it seems to have disappeared. Totally understand where you are coming from Paul. If you read my original topic post, it mentions putting on a top notch male semi main event before the womens final, to cater for the more chauvenistic of fans. You could squeeze another good male fight in after the first rounds of the ladies fights too. I think the combination of male and female bouts would bring in the fans. It would also lend some well needed and deserved exposure to womens kickboxing in Australia. I think after such an event, many people in the crowd and at home(if broadcast on fox)would have a new found respect and appreciation of our Aussie girls. OUR GIRLS CAN FIGHT DAMN WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now the original message has reappeared and you've already replied Paul! The new message is close to the original, my memory is better than I thought! Glad you like the idea.

Just thought of another possible addition to a female supa 8, how about Angela Parr(formerly Angela Rivera)? She is living in OZ at the moment with hubby JWP and is the best American MT female fighter going round. If such a show went ahead later on in the year(after the little Parr arrives!) and the fighting weight suited her, she would make a more than worthy competitor What do you reckon???
