Well guys,
Just returned home from Japan after witnessing the most brutal K-1 GP ever... I wont spoil it with results, but if you havent booked it make sure you DO because it was, well, friggin' brutal! I have never seen every fighter go in there before and try and knock the stuffing out of each other... you gotta watch it!
TONIGHT, MAIN EVENT, 7pm - ENJOY!
Excellent broadcast Michael. I enjoyed the english commentary in the k-1 for a change. I enjoyed the panel, comments, guests like Mike Bernardo. Well done to everyone involved.

Great job Michael! Honestly though I was a bit disapointed at the end. It was all decided on injuries and luck! I'm not sure these tournaments are fair to anyone. Seriously at the end I was left thinking "I just saw Hoost get ko'ed a couple hours ago, now I'm seeing him with the trophy?"

K-1 2002 very good show
Peter Aerts vs Ray Sefo - Aerts should have won he used his legs better and didnt play around as much
Ernesto Hoost vs Bob Sapp - Sapp OMFG this guy is massive the 2nd rd stoppage was at the bell and was touch and go. But what is the ref meant to do ? let someone "that" big punch away on on a hurt fighter. Too bad Sapp couldnt go on as it would have been fun to watch - he is also involved in mixed martial arts comps - Ive seen photos of him doing drop kicks and flying head butts ala Chris Benoit off the top rope - unreal.
Both Mark Hunt and Jerome Le Banner had fairly uneventfull dare I say "easy" - but no fight is ever easy - fights leading into the semis - put it this way if they had gotten beat it would have been a pretty big upset.
Ernesto Hoost vs Ray Sefo - the first leg kick that Sefo threw all night and Hoost checks it perfectly on the button.
Mark Hunt vs Jerome Le Banner - I wasnt really a Mark Hunt fan until now. Those leg kicks that he took in the 2nd rd going down and then to get up and last the 3 rds - F*ck that man is tough - much respect - he didnt have to get carried back to the dressing room. They kept going on about Le Banner being a smart fighter but why did he go away from the legs during the 3rd rd
Ernesto Hoost vs Jerome Le Banner - pretty even up til the 3rd rd and the elbow injury to Le Banner must have been painful - I dont think his pride would let him quit otherwise I mean look at the replay at the dent that Hoosts leg put in his arm and he did try to go on 3 times.
What can I say Hoost was pretty lucky to win it but thats the way that it gos.
I want to see more of Bob Sapp - no style but just so big and he has got a lot of heart - Hoost dropped him with a body shot 1st rd and he was out of puff at the end - fatigue makes cowards out of the bravest of men - and he came out fighting. Every one on their feet when he stopped Hoost
i don't understand why hoost got to go on, as he was tko'd. i think that aerts should have went on as he lost to a decision, both hoost and seko tko.

A good Show,,no doubt.. I turned to my mate as Big Bob Sapp left the ring and i said.." any money this **** yank does not fight in the next round" sure enough he pulled a heart muscle. You could see when he came to congratulate Hoost after the final was over, that he was not in much favour.
The final fight between Hoost & Banner had an absolutly exceptional ending. i wonder if Hoost broke his arm or maybe fractured it?
Mark Hunt made a "big" mistake in thinking that Leko's leg kicks were not doing any damage, i must have counted about a dozen "clean" leg kicks to his outside front leg before Mark seem to remember to block them.. This was not good strategy, as the fighters know that they have to come out and do it again. If Mark would have blocked the leg kicks early then i am sure the outcome may have been different.
Ray, Ray, Ray... It was their for the taking bro!!! So was the KO of Aerts but he let it slip through his fingers.
As for Musashi... very average for the Best Japan has to offer... I would get off my but Mr Ishi and start looking hard bud as Japan needs someone bad!
All in All very entertaining. And what about the Screens / Lights/ Razzamataz.. I hope that Tarik took the Shows production into consideration.
Cheers

Who are you to question his heart? Didn't he get up off the canvas after taking all those shots and pound Hoost into defeat? And you could SEE his hand swelling up in the shots backstage. And a guy like you sits there and says he has no heart. Typical.

What a show!
I cant beleive how much heart some of these fighters possess. I was amazed to see Hoost still standing after his quarter final and the same goes with Mark Hunt towards the end of his semi. He took so much punishment from Le Banner but he wasnt going to be dropped.
Definately one of the best world K1 I have seen and the most brutal!
Cheers

I agree with soprano, Aerts should have got the decision. He did use his legs better and I feel landed more cleaner blows(one of the judges saw it that way too). As for the rest of the show, WOW, how about the injuries! Bob Sapp is a genuine sportsman, after Hoost left in a huff after his fight with him had been stopped, Bob Is in the ring after Hoost won the final applauding him. One thing I was wondering though is what happened to Schilt? I thought he won his lead up bout to the K-1 with a knee to the head of Mike McDonald. The 7 footer would have made a great match up for Sapp! I think that maybe Musashi took his place.

Great show, but Hoost didn't deserve it. That guy Macdonald lost to was supposed to step in if anyone was injured, what happened to that? I was impressed by Hunt & Le Banner the most, that should have been the final.I think the automatic inclusion of a Japanese fighter should be reviewed, it wastes one slot which could be taken by someone with a chance such as Cro Cop or Bernardo. Speaking of which why wasn't Mirko in there?

OK PEOPLE
RE: SHILT HE PULLED OUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS OR SO BEFORE THE K1 WITH A TORN ROTATOR CUFF , HOOST WAS FIRST RESERVE AND TOOK HIS PLACE
RE: MACDONALD , HE WAS A RESERVE FIGHTER IN THE FOLLOWING WAY :
IF BOTH FIGHTERS FROM FIRST FIGHT WERE INJURED AND COULDNT FIGHT IN SEMI FINAL , THEN HE REPLACED THEM
UNDER THE K1 RULES , IF THE WINNER IS UNABLE TO FIGHT IN NEXT FIGHT , THE GUY HE BEAT TAKES HIS PLACE BUT ONLY AFTER BEING EXAMINED BY THE DOCTOR
RE: MIRKO CRO COP HE IS CURRENTLY FIGHTING 'PRIDE' IN JAPAN , BASICALLY SAME AS UFC
RE: BERNARDO HE DIDNT QUALIFY , THATS WHY HE WASNT THERE
AS FOR BEING THE MOST BRUTAL , NAR IVE SEEN MORE BRUTAL K1'S BEFORE
THERE WAS ONE EARLIER THIS YEAR , NICHOLAS PETAS SNAPPED HIS SHIN , YOU COULD SEE THE MIDDLE OF HIS SHIN BEND AND ON SAME SHOW I THINK IT WAS ALSO ONE OF SAPPS FIRST FIGHTS IN K1 AND HE WENT NUTS
GOOD THING ABOUT LIVING IN JAPAN IS THAT I GET TO SEE ALL THE K1
( JAPAN AND INTERNATIONAL K1 ROUNDS )ON REGULAR TV 3 OR 4 HOURS AFTER THE ACTUAL EVENT
WAS NORIKA ON THE AUST TELECAST ? SHE IS ONE OF THE JAPAN TV PRESENTERS FOR K1 AND WHAT A HONEY AND SHE AINT JUST A BIMBO PRESENTER EITHER

Shouldn't Mcdonald have fought instead of Hoost? As McDonald was beaten by the guy who pulled out (Schultz, I think) in the qualifier! Hoost was beaten by Sapp. I don't understand.
Aerts would have won if they did not have the bull**** rule of only 1 knee and no grappling. No disrespectintende to Ray Sefu. There would have been a few different decisions if the fighters who are capable in muay thai could use their knee's.
Also what is the point of Sapp, besides looking like a freak, he has no fighting skills, no fitness and has also been helped by the new rule that you can pin a guy up against the ropes with one arm and punch him senseless, it has even been called "Bob's rule" He has not got the fitness to go to the second round, even if he was not injured, what's the point.
Those people who knocked Mark Hunt during the year saying, he was lucky to win, he is only a brawler, should probably eat their words as I think Mark has the biggest heart ever, he copped ****loads and was still there at the end.
Although I enjoyed it immensely, I am still left dissappointed in the winner and all the rule changes to suit/not suit some of the contestants.
THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND I KNOW A LOT OF YOU WILL DISAGREE BUT CAN SOME OF THE ABOVE BE EXPLAINED TO ME AS I AM LOST HERE!!!!!

My opinion is that Sapp guy fights like an amateur but for all the things we say about him the fact is he has beaten Hoost badly twice! Who people like Mike Schiavello kept saying was the ultimate fighter ever born? Makes me wonder too how a guy like Sapp belongs there but he has beaten hoost twice in a row now so we cant trash him now or else we're bagging hoost too!

Referring back to what to what madjack said, whats up with "bob's rule". I thought it was illegal to grab someone behind the head with one hand and punch continously with the other!I think thats a little like ahh, I don't know, streetfighting? I think Bob's sheer size let him get away with more because the ref didn't want to get between bob and Hoost while he is punching! Also if Hoost or any of the other guys fighting were the same weight as Bob, Bob would be lucky to last 30 seconds. His only asset is his size, which is about 50kg more than the other competitors!

It was obvious in Hoost V Sapp first fight that Sapps legs were vulnerable.
In the second fight, hoost attacked Sapps legs and lower body and was taking over. WHy did he stop his gameplan which was obviously working? The he decided to trade bombs with a man 60kg heavier than him. Its gotta be fixed man.
K1 has had the same friggin fighters for 5 years! Its going to get very boring if we dont see more fighters. SUrelly we have more than 10 fighters around the world who can fight!

from the AX website:
"...Bob Sapp is expected to participate for Antonio Inoki's 12/31 Saitama, Omiya Super Arena "BOM-BA-YE" show. K-1 claims that Sapp suffered a right metatarsal fracture during his fight with Ernesto Hoost on 12/7 at the Tokyo Dome and that he will undergo further medical examination in a few days. Japanese media writers are privately questioning the legitimacy of the injury..."

Why did Hoost qualify instead of McDonald????????????????????????

I knew sapp wouldn't continue. I don't believe the injury. I believe he was injured, just not the injury he claims he had. I think he didn't have any legs left and that his ribs were maybe fractured. I would love to see sapp vs either mark hunt or ray sefo. they would be killer fights.

HELLO PEOPLE
1ST
SAPP DID BREAK HIS HAND , DURING THE TELECAST (ON JAPAN TV )THEY SHOW HIM IN HIS CHANGE ROOM , HIS HAND WAS SO SWOLLEN HE COULDNT MAKE A FIST , SO IT WAS FOR REAL AND NOT AN ACT
2ND
IF SAPP IS SO GOOD , THEN WHY IN 2 BOUTS HASNT HE KO'D HOOST ??????????
IN THE 1ST , IT WAS STOPPED DUE TO HOOST SUSTAINING A BAD CUT
IN THE 2ND , THE REF STOPPED IT DUE TO HIM THINKING HOOST WAS IN TROUBLE
HOOST WASNT IN TROUBLE , HE TOOK ALL THE PUNCHES ON THE GLOVES ( GOOD DEFENSE )BUT DUE TO SAPPS SIZE AND HOOST NOT THROWING PUNCHES BACK THE REF ASSUMED HOOST WAS IN TROUBLE AND STOPPED THE FIGHT
SAPP IS YET TO SCORE A CLEAN KO , ALL HIS FIGHTS HAVE BEEN WON BY THE REF STOPPING IT
HOOST IS AWESOME , CONSIDERING HE IS AROUND 65KG LIGHTER THAN SAPP , TAKES SAPPS BEST AND CAN STILL BEAT THE HELL OUT OF SAPP AND EVEN DROP SAPP WITH A BODY SHOT . AT THE END HOOST LEFT THE RING ON HIS OWN ACCORD AND SAPP GOT HELPED OUT BY 2 TRAINERS , HE COULD BARELY STAND UP ON HIS OWN
I DONT KNOW WHICH FIGHTS SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING BUT YOU OBVIOUSLY CANT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GREAT FIGHTER AND A BAR ROOM BRAWLER
I MIGHT NOT LIKE HOW THE FIGHTS AND WINNER TURNED OUT BUT THATS JUST HOW THINGS GO

THIS IS FOR MADJACK
FROM OFFICIAL K1 WEBSITE :
"A training injury has forced Semmy Schilt to withdraw from the December 7 K-1 World Grand Prix Final. The Dutch fighter suffered a rotary cuff tear in his left shoulder, and is expected to be out of action for about a month. Compatriot and three-time K-1 World GP Champion Ernesto Hoost will take Schilt's place in the final. Coincidentally, Hoost's first fight will be against Schilt's scheduled opponent Bob Sapp, who advanced to the Final by upsetting Hoost in the October 5 Saitama Semifinals.
Also announced today are the reserve fighters for the Final. Canadian Michael McDonald and Swede Martin Holm will square off, with the winner held in reserve should injuries force the need for a semifinal substitute."
UNDER K1 TOURNAMENT RULES , IF A WINNER OF A 1/4 FINAL IS UNABLE TO COMPETE IN SEMI FINAL , THE OPPONENT HE BEAT TAKES HIS PLACE IF HE IS RULED FIT BY THE DOCTOR
A SEMI FINAL SUBSTITUE IS USED IF BOTH FIGHTERS FROM 1/4 FINAL ARE UNABLE TO COMPETE IN THE SEMI FINAL

Hey Dynamite, this only reinforces my argument! Schiltz beat Mc Donald. McDonald should fight in the K1 not Hoost. Hoost was beaten by Sapp but Sapp fought..
WHY? did Hoost get in, not Mcdonald???????????????????????
Because he sells tickets and PPV.

You got it in one mate, what a load of s@#t, I would have rather seen Mc Donald get bashed by Sapp and then maybe Sapp might not have been to "sapped" to continue.
How would Ron have done against Sapp? or LeBanner?
Any thoughts gents?

Ray Sefo is great to watch. He gets excited, smiles and ducks and weaves without a guard held. I respect him as a fighter as he doesnt talk it up rather just he justs lets his fighting do the talking.
Sefo would and could go toe-to-toe with Sapp and knock the head off that fat poo ball. But, LeBanner is a pure technician and I think it could be lebanner on points.

I dont think to much of how Ray goofs around and disrespects his opponents contantly but each to their own.
