TROJAN WARRIOR V'S TURKISH WARRIOR?
THANK GOD WE ARE ALL AUSTRALIANS, OTHERWISE THERE WOULD BE CIVIL WAR BREAKING OUT ALL OVER THE PLACE.
IMAGINE, GREAKS V'S TURKS ONE WEEK, VIETNAMESE V'S TONGANS THE NEXT. SAMOANS V'S IRISH. WE SHOULD HAVE AN ETHNICITY BASED K1 STYLE EVENT. CALL IT WAR OF THE WORLDS OR W1.
AN EVENT WERE YOU BAND TOGETHER FIGHTERS BASED ON ETHNICITY AND DO BATTLE IN LIKE A TEAM KNOCKOUT. WHAT AN IDEA.
JOKING EVERYONE. RELAX. IT WONT WORK.
BUT I THINK MOST PEOPLE WILL AGREE THAT THE ETHNICITY THING THESE DAYS IS A BIT TIRED. THE GENERATION THAT FIGHTERS LIKE STAN THE MAN GREW UP IN WAS DIFFERENT. WE ARE ALL AUSSIES NOW. NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE FROM.

fighting for titles dont mean crap. Fighting for who you are makes it alot more passionate and knowing you are not only fighting for yourself, but for your people on a small scale though!
i do agree we are now 2nd generation ethnics (ie. italian, greek, turk) but we dont forget our roots. i might me aussie by nationality, but no friggin way aussie by moral, nor culture

NOT AUSSIE BY MORALS OR CULTURE???
WHAT DO YOU MEAN? I THOUGH AUSTRALIAN CULTURE WAS A MIXTURE OF THINGS. WHAT IS AUSSIE CULTURE?
I THINK AUSSIE CULTURE IS THE ABILITY TO ACCEPT OTHER PEOPLES CULTURE, TO TRY NEW THINGS TO KEEP AN OPEN MIND, TO GIVE EVERYONE A FAIR GO.
IT SEEMS TOO MANY PEOPLE RIDICULE AUSTRALIAN CULTURE. I AM A SECOND GENERATION AUSTRALIAN AND I AM SO PROUD OF THAT. I AM ALSO PROUD OF MY ETHNIC BACKGROUND. BUT TO SAY AUSSIES HAVE NO CULTURE OR TO SAY THAT THIS CULTURE IS INFERIOR TO YOURS IS VERY WRONG AND TO BE HONEST PRETTY IMMATURE.
ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ANGLO AUSTRALIAN CULTURE?
DON'T JUST MAKE A COMMENT WITHOUT GIVING JUSTIFICATION.
ARE YOU RACIST? ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO GREW UP IN AN AREA WHERE THERE WERE NO ANGLO AUSTRALIANS AND YOU BASE YOUR ASSUMPTIONS ON THE FEW YOU MET AND JUDGE THE WHOLE ANGLO AUSTRALIAN MAJORTY ON THIS MISGUIDED JUDGEMENT?
DO YOU ACCEPT OTHER CULTURES OR IS YOURS WHAT YOU CONSIDER SUPERIOR?
MATE I TELL YOU, THERE IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF TO BE AUSTRALIAN. AFTER TRAVELLING THE WORLD I HEVEN'T SEEN A COUNTRY ANY WHERE THAT HAS WHAT WE HAVE GOT. I LOVE THE AUSSIE CULTURE. NO WORRIES. FAIR GO. FREEDOM. PEACE. RESPECT. HUMILITY. COMPASSION. JUSTICE. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?
LETS HOPE YOU AREN'T IMPLYING THAT AUSSIES ARE OF NO MORALS DUE TO YOU HAVING A DIFFERING RELIGION TO THE MAJORITY OF AUSTRALIAS. WE ARE FREE TO BELIEVE WHATEVER WE WANT HERE, THAT IS ANOTHER PART OF THE AUSSIE CULTURE THAT IS GREAT AND SHOULD BE APPRECIATED BY ALL.

jamesG you took it the wrong way ya spazz and assumed to much from a 3 word statement
ill set my statment on a basic scale.
im italian and every year the family get together:
- making tomato sauce
- making the wine
- making the salami
We have huge weddings with different setups, different customs and obviously a different language. we are genuinely known for our food, cars and fashion. We have a love for soccer. blah blah blah. You cant tell me that the culture is the same as a pure australian?
*Let me get one thing straight JamesG, religion has no nationality.
I WILL NEVER FORGET MY ROOTS, as you may be "tired of it", IM LIVING IT BUDDY.
Its my choice and my opinion, so why are you telling me off? didnt you say
"I LOVE THE AUSSIE CULTURE. NO WORRIES. FAIR GO. FREEDOM. PEACE.RESPECT. HUMILITY. COMPASSION. JUSTICE. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?"
leave me alone and take off the friggin caps lock! lol
ps - i didnt say any nationality was inferior. Next time ask before you look like a complete utter d i c k head.

Hey SUCUC come on mate, settle down now. I didn't say I was tired of the cultural beauty of ones ethnic background.
"I THINK AUSSIE CULTURE IS THE ABILITY TO ACCEPT OTHER PEOPLES CULTURE, TO TRY NEW THINGS TO KEEP AN OPEN MIND, TO GIVE EVERYONE A FAIR GO."
My frustration (which is just my opinion) is with the events that are billed as Greeks V's Turks etc. I think it isn't the way a fight of that magnitude should be promoted. Instead of tagreting a market of two differing ethnicities why not expand into the broader market that might not share that ethnicity. Until Kickboxing and Muay Thai push into the mainstream we are always going to be struggling to generate much interest within the mindset of the majority of Australians.
My opinion is to generate the awareness of the mainstream by showing them that we have all of these really talented fighters of world standard here in Australia fighting for Australia. Of course they are proud of there ethnicity, that shouldn't even be an issue. The facts are they are from here fighting here.
If promoters want to play the race game to spark some ethnic passion just to sell the seats kickboxing will never ever break into mainstream acceptance. Beacuse the mainstream is made up of so many differing ethnicities all proud of their heritage but who consider themselves aussies.
If Kostya Tszyu was fighting an african american fighter in Australia and the promoters billed the fight as "RUSSIAN COSSACK V's AFRICAN ZULU it would be ridiculed. What has the relevance of the ethnicity of the fighter got to do with anything, unless ofcourse you are caught in a cycle of not being able to sell tickets to the mainstream audiences so you play on the ethnicity of the fighters to make sure you do.
This is my opinion, you don't have to agree. I work in the advertising and marketing industry and I flook at things on that level.
I believe the poster would of worked much more effectivly if the headline read:
STAN THE MAN V's OZKAN
with the photos of both fighters etc.
This would immediately spark more interest in the wider market guaranteed. Everyone knows there ethnicity, why stae the obviouse, no what I'm saying.
Anyway no more ear bashing, I promise. LOL.

CHECK THIS OUT TO SEE WHAT I MEAN
I have attached an image of what the same promotion might look like without the ethnicity reference.

Please note that this image is a computer generated change to the original poster. It is not the original poster. It hasn't been commisioned by the Promoters of the event (Tarrik Solak). It is intended as a visual example of an altrnative promotional strategy that I feel would push Kickboxing into the wider mainstream audience.

James you are not a fighter nor are you a promoter. Then why would you give a rats arse when at the end of the day your going to buy a ticket anyway?
Simply its not your job and nor do you get any cut from Solaks income so why do you care?
Dont get worked over something that you cant control and have no effect over. Kickboxing will sell regardless what nationality. How many people support the brazilian soccer team even though they arent brazillian? Your only telling me that only turkish and greek fans will turn up on Feb 17???? come on james.
I understand your point but basically, if it all falls down the drain Tarik is out of pocket, NOT YOU. ANd last to mention, kickboxing will only sell if its good to watch with great entertainment and there are fighters with flare and can put on a good fight. Race means nothing but some extra die hard fans who can show there colours and roar with chants!
take a chill pill and let others do there job.
Ps - Im also assuming your not turkish or greek?

JANER I understand your views and respect your opinion. But I don't agree with you on "Its not your job don't worry about it" comment. I get passionate about Muay THai and Kickboxing as do soccer fans footy fans etc so I do worry about it even though it's not in my job description. I spend plenty of time reading through ax posts and blits posts whilst at work though so I kind of get paid for it. LOL.
But seriously, hey it's just my opinion on a topic I am passionate about. I don't call myself a fighter but I have had **** loads of full contact Karate kyokushin fights. Aswell as what came from growing up in suburbs like Marrickville and Cabramatta. My best mate Nader Hamdan will attest to that.
I don't plan on telling others what to do or how to do there job, I just presented an opinion and hopefully something that the promoters will think about.
GOD BLESS, GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON TO ALL.

Sucuk,
surely your not surprised at the reaction by James!
I'm not having a go at you, but I just can't understand the comment.
I also felt it sounded as if you were knocking the Aussie culture.
I was born in Europe, actually, Dalmatia was a part of Italy at one stage. We all now fortunately I believe are living in the best country in the world, whose government is accepting of all culture. And a government in a democratic country is a direct reflection of a nations culture. Or at least it's dominant culture. This culture even welcomed it's former enemies which at one stage were Italians and Croatians and allowed our parents to become citizens
I would defend this country in a split second. It has done far more for me than the country of my birth, which I also have sentiment for.
But in all honesty, if I felt that strongly about the place of my birth, and it's pure culture, I'd move back.
But, I'd feel hypocritical and full of **** if I sat here and tried to feel superior because I was born in some country which my parents ended up fleeing.
Sorry dude.
but it did look like you comment had offensive intentions.
By the way,
I don't have a problem with shows like a 'Turks vs Greeks' theme, or Australia Vs New Zealand or whatever. I know it draws in bigger crowds. Espescially if it's advertised on the different ethnic radio stations.
Guys, I don't think Soccer would have gone anywhere in Australia if it's teams weren't supported by the different ethnic communities. But look at the size of some of the club houses now, and how big soccer has become. So in general, I don't think it does any harm whatsoever.
Peace.

Hi PAUL C,
Great reply, but I still stick to my opinion that a fighters ethnicity doesn't need to be highlighted when promoting an event. It is kind of like repeating or stating the obvious therefore why even mention it.
We all know that Greeks and Turks have this traditional rivalry, but most Aussies of Anglo heritage, who in reality still make up the majority of the population don't know this. So when they see Tarrick Solaks promo they don't see the relevance and could be put off if they think they will be caught up in a clash between the turks and greeks in the crowd. Hey lets be honest, it does get a little tense in the crowds, its fun, but that is why I don't take my MRS.
I'm sure you guys wouldn't expect an Australian Tennis Tournamnet like the OZ open to promote the event with headlines like Leighton "ANGLO SAXON WARRIOR" HEWITT V's PAT "THE MAD SCOTTISH" RAFTER. They are ozzies who cares what there ethnicity is.
We got to see the big picture, look beyond these small rivalries and push hard for kickboxing into the mainstream and unfortunately it probley means having more of a mainstream generic approach to the promo's we do.
P.S. I promise this is the last time a put my 2cents in. I'll be broke if I keep this up.
