the Chief is in for a hard first fight.

Badr Hari could possibly upset this lineup.
He is on the way up.... and the Chief if he beats him... will not do it easily which could gain him some injuries.

Congrats Dixion on a strong lineup.

cheers Spada

actually yeah Spada, I remember seeing him fight recently, looks very good. I will revise it to a Chief victory UPD, still see him winning.

Is Badr Hari the young guy who knocked out Leko in the K1 WGP lastyear? A tough night for the Chief me thinks. I've heard good things about Hari but he still looks like he's lacking some size to go with that height of his..especially to bang with the big boys. Hopefully the Chief get the win.

Badr Hari vs Slowinski in semis is gonna be the fight of the night. clash of different styles. Abidi is my dark horse but i have all my bets on Suttie.

Yep, tough fight for Peter Graham... Hari is something special, just a bundle of natural talent.

Mike, who is your pick to take it?

Shiv,
what do you make of the Pola Express...until XP12 I thought he was going to be a new force but he really seems to have a glass jaw. Matt Samoa really showed him up.

And Suttie arguably has the most vicious punches of the lot of them. Can only conclude KO to Jase.

I disagree with you Voice,

Pola took all of Jason's punches in their fight and lost by decision as he left his run too late and didn't pick up momentum till the final round.

As for the Samoa knockout, when you have a 120kg Polynesian catching you, I don't care who you are (Mark Hunt excepted), it's gonna get you. Samoa did the same to Chris Chrisopoulides and there is no way Big Chris has a glass jaw.

That said, this is FINALLY Suttie's chance to hit the big time, so he will go all out and try to destroy Pola early.

Hironaka... it's hard to call at the moment as I'm not too sure on the form of some of the guys... but at an early stab I'd pick a final of Cyril Abidi vs Badr Hari/Jason Suttie.

As for the super fights:

Ray to stop Remy.
Schilt to TKO Aerts (will bang Peter's legs up and reinjure old wounds)

Abidi has always been a favorite of mine for his wild and unpredictable style. You never quite know what is going to happen when Cyril fights. Having said that though, it would be nice if someone took it who was actually from this region.

Slowinski's chances???

To steal a line from the New York Bad-ass, Phil Baroni, by 'throwing hard, devestating punches at his head'. If Sefo can dictate the pace and keep the pressure on, he takes the fight.

Multiple GP winner, blah, blah, blah, I just don't buy Remy.

the people's favourite, invariably comes up short. Let's hope he is fit and in form for this one, could be a very good fight.

I think Remy will outkick Ray and keep him at range. Way too fit for Ray but hey, nothing a big haymaker won't decide.

Remy is not in a great place at the moment with his training. He is no longer with Meijiro Gym and I even heard he had ventured to Suriname for a while. I don't think we'll see the Remy of old again, and his performances in the GP were nothing to write home about. Neither were Ray's, but sickness will do that to you.

In front of his home crowd for the first time in over 10 years, and training in Auckland like a demon, also being in a very good place in his personal life right now, Ray will have no excuses. He'll come out hard and strong and show Remy up. It will be Remy's flash (leg kicks, jumping knees) against Ray's bash (those powerful hands and that rock hard jaw). Once Ray gets on the inside, well, bye bye Remy I believe.

Should be a great fight either way. Two gentlemen of the sport going at it. The crowd will eat it up, and so will the TV ratings.

I can remember Slowinski was hyped leading into the 2004 (or was it 03) Oceania tourny at Melbourne Town Hall and I was pumped because I hadn't seen much of him, but had heard plenty. As it turns out, he had a really poor showing that night and left the ring in tears.

I am hoping that he can turn that around as it would be good to see any Aussie, well any except Graham, book a spot in Osaka.

How come you wouldn't like to see Graham in Japan again?
He's the best Aussie heavyweight going around right now. Probably desreves it more than anyone considering his history of getting screwed by K-1.

I did have a long winded rant detailing the reasons why I don't want to see Graham in the final 16 again, but it all come off sounding a little personal.

Having said that, I will just simply say that I don't think he is up to it. Slowinski probably isn't either and the only reason I said I want an Aussie to progress is purely sentimental.

Would still like to hear the long winded rant. Or at least a trimmed down version. At least you already admitted it's probably personal. :)

What a night of Action Ahead...

I'll be putting my money on Slowinski as long as he doesn't get caught like he did by Suttie.

Counting down the days, Geez The chiefs got the toughest draw, Slowinski way to much for Ron I think, Abidi and Jason straight through to the next round. Winner is anyones guess. Ray will destroy Remy on current form and being at home, Semmy unfortunately over the Lumber jack, dont think the shins have any chance of being healed. Would love to see the Chief and Jason rematch as the final. OSU! RTR

Hi Hironaka, yes I think That Rays running out of time, but little brother Rony is not skilled enough to overcome Slowinski. The chief defeated Rony, I thought very comfortably in their last encounter. Ray will be an awesome spectacle at home against an out of focus Remy. OSU! RTR

Voice
13-02-2006, 10:22 AM
yes, IF ray is going to do it then it is now or never.
I'm not sure what an 'out of focus Remy' means.
Either he is prepared or he isn't. Ray (flu aside) looked fat and slow last fight. I am sure he will have put in the hard yards for this fight but his form and focus hasn't exactly been razor sharp either.

I hope for all concerned they are both on top of things and these negatives do not factor in the fight.

Hi voice, My comment on Remy is based on reading about his changing of, or thinking about, gyms and trainers, I think he will be prepared as best he can, but any little niggly thoughts can play a role. From what Ive heard Ray has been training like a demon, This should be his day. As for the main tourny I would like to see a Peter Graham - Suttie final. OSU! RTR
