how do you have a fighter from VIC fighting a WA boy for a
WA title????????????????

yeah guys... i'm pretty sure matt wont be fighting on this show, as bushi has said he's fighting a week before and against a tough opponent, and i dont think he'll be in the condition needed to fight someone like rob. matt and rob will make a great fight, but it should probably be when they are both gonna be primed and ready.

good luck to rob and whoever you guys find for him though.

from infinitemma:

thnx

What a Fight. They both started cautiously with Dom expecting a takedown and Rhys expecting a strike. Rhys slipped a jab and shot in for the takedown but Dom sprawled well and avoided it and landed a knee to the chest on the way out, both circled again. Rhys shot in again and Dom sprawled but not good enough this time, he ending up on his back and pulled guard. While rhys scrambled for position there was a clash of heads and the fight had to be stopped for a doc check, Rhys with a cut to his forhead and Dom to his eye brow.

Luckily for both guys it was restarted and restarted in the same position. this is when RHys got loose and started his GnP, Dom slipped a punch and went for a head arm, it looked like it was in but Rhys powered out of it and kept with his GnP landing some half decent shots. The fight was stopped again to clean up some blood. Restart sees more of the same, Rhys GnP and another attempt at a heard and arm by Dom. Once again Rhys gets out of it and start throwing repative 6 inch hammer fists to Doms cut. Rhys backs out and throws Doms legs around to get side control and throws a couple of bombs, Dom gets to his feet and the crowd explodes, he comes in with a combination that lands and Rhys backs up and then shoots to no avail and eats Doms knee in the face on the way out. He shoots again, Doms sprawls but they end up in this head and toe possie with Dom laying on Rhys back with Rhys holding his legs. Thats when Rhys some how stood up, still holding his legs he walks to centre ring, jumps and falls backwards. Slamming Dom on his head. I dont think anyone knows how he survived this, with both fighters bodyweight all coming down on his head. But he did and soon had rhys in turtle possie and starts going to town with Knees and punches to Rhys body and head. The bell sounds for Round 1.

Dom Starts more aggresivly this round landing a couple of hits, none which really dazed Rhys though, then Rhys takes the fight to the ground again and starts GnP on Dom. Landing some big shots, even standind up in guard and coming down with the Rain makers. Dom goes for the Head and arm again but Rhys gets out of it. Dom goes for a sweep, it didnt quiet come off properly but gets out anyway. Rhys turtles up again and Dom goes to town with Knees and puches again. He then gets Rhys back and Goes for a Rear Naked which he may of got if he sunk his hooks in. He turns to the front and goes for a guillotine which looked in but decided to go to Rhys back again and throw strikes. Rhys turns to get guard but has no luck then some how scrambles to his feet.Dom throws a few combinations then lands a huge upperut that rocks Rhys. Rhys shoots in for a takedown but Dom sprawls and catches Rhys in a guillotine. This time its deep and Rhys taps out about 3.30 minutes into round 2

All and all it was a crowd Pleaser. One of the best fights ive seen Live.Rhys definitly earnt a spot in the hearts of the West Aussies with many hoping he would be back sooner rather than later. There wil be a dvd of the event, definitly worth getting with some action packed Muay Thai fights on the night. Get to the next XFC to see Dom first hand, hes a showman with great Style and Heart.

both shaun and paul had hard fights considering it was one weeks notice..

shaun and his opponent were toe to toe in the first two rounds smashing it out, shauns punches were looking sharp. he dropped mark in the 1st but there was no count given, which was surprising. in the 2nd he got a few big shots to the head and then knee's to the head in the grapple. fatigue was setting in a fair bit now. he ended up being stopped by knee's to the head midway in the 3rd.

paul fought well.. rob was throwing his shots hard from the word go, paul stayed calm and picked his shots. i had the 1st round a draw and the second goin to rob.. in the 3rd paul started to slow him down and landed a clean step-up elbow which worried rob a bit.. at the very end of the 3rd paul got kicked in the side of the knee cap and went down. he forced himself to his feet and the bell went.. 4th round rob went searching for the knee and dropped him again. paul struggled to his feet again and pushed forward. he changed to southpaw stance and was defending his knee with cross checks. close to the end of the round rob landed another kick on the knee and paul couldnt get up.

all the promoters and myself were impressed at the warren's efforts on a weeks notice. hopefully we'll see em over in the west sometime down the track.. we might even give em more than a week next time <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

i only saw a bit of it... the crowd loved it so i couldnt see too much as they were going nuts... i think dom took him apart while they were on their feet.. but over all just looked like he was dominating, i think there was a few tims where he could have put his opponents away, but as it was his first fight he didnt have the wrestling skills to do it.. still fought well, big crowd pleaser but thats dom for ya, he always pulls a crowd.

Huge effort from the Warren boys, both put on a great show & we thank them & Phil Renata(their trainer)for putting their hands up on short notice, top stuff boys.I know you boys are keen so we'll definately have you back over in the near future.
Top effort by Rob Powdrill to stop Paul & win the title, Rob got stuffed around a bit in the lead up weeks, different opponents, rules & weights thrown at him & constantly changing, he did well to keep his focus, the boy has a huge future & is very versatile-fights thai, kickboxing & even had one mma fight. I think he's back in the ring on Mike's show in Melb in a couple of weeks.

Nick Kara's boys the Alahananthan brothers Ashok & Denish were also very impressive, 1st time i've seen these boys fight & both have huge futures, Would love to have both boys back over soon.Denish took the fight(no contest) with a couple of hours notice & looked very good, whilst Ashok's leg kicks are devistating. Both boys are undefeated i think.

Kris Craine-White(Blair Smith)was good in his 1st fight back after a 2yr layoff & won the fighter of the night.
Yusha Ozhan(Peter Boyd)was awesome in his win over Tom Weinke(Mick Henry) to win the title.Tom was also very good & i'm sure will bounce back strongly, he has a big future.

Dom vs Rhys was a great fight, Rhys came to fight & gave Dom a few headaches on the ground but Dom's toughness & standing skills were too much for Rhys to overcome in the end.

All in all a great night of fights & big thanks to everyone involved especially our sponsors & corporates & interstate fighters & trainers...Look out for MWP's next big show April 1st featuring Boom Boom, Chad Walker, Chris White, Rob Lovet, Jamie Guilfoyle, Steve Zankl & more of WA's top fighters as well as most of the boys who fought last night. Not forgetting Mitch vs Chico.
I would recomend promoters out there contact Scotty Ward(NO CONTEST BOXING EQUIP),his trophy's are great-Thai style. Thanks Scotty.

Gday guys
first time posting, found the forum on a web search.
Saturday night fights were great, some really good matchups.
The MMA fight was unreal, it had the crowd completely amped, everyone was on their feet. I find it a touch disappointing that with such a crowd reaction it didnt get fight of the night (I understand that it is primarily a muay thai night, but it would be good to give the guys recongnition for putting it all on the line like that).
I was massively disappointed that Cameron Drew from Team Soa had that savage dislocation in the first round, I was really looking forward to that fight as last fight night Cameron's boxing skills were complete class. I have to give Team Soa credit for getting those little Fighter Cards out to the crowd, Im not sure if that is the answer to building up the fighters and getting individual fighters a fan base, but it is definitely a good shot at achieving that goal.
I was also pretty disappointed with certain elements of the crowd (from a certain gym) giving Frankie a bit of schtick. Frankie steps up to the plate every night, and gives an awesome showing, and I reckon he gets a pretty bad wrap. It is one thing to support a fighter from your gym, but to show disrespect to other other fighter who is big enough to step in the ring and give 100% is a disgrace to the fighter and the sport.
The other disappointing thing is some of the reff'ing. Two major issues I can see - differentiating between knockdowns/slips and pulling the rope when the fighters are in a clinch on the ropes. The ref should decide immediately whether a hit caused the falldown or whether it was a genuine slip. A couple of times it seemed as though the ref thought it was a slip, and then saw that the fighter on the ground was looking a bit shaky and so he started counting.
As for pulling the rope, it seemed to me that 80% of the time after the rope was pulled both fighters went down. I can understand holding the top rope so it supports the fighters, but actually giving it a huge pull and knocking the fighters to the ground is probably not the best method to employ.
On a note unrelated to actual technical skill I am not a huge fan of seeing a ref in the ring wearing a pair of von dutch jeans. It seems to me to portray a very "back yard wrestling" theme. The refs at the last fight night wore black pants and white collared shirts, and it really felt like a much more professional event.
Anyway these are just my views on the night, hoepfully they are taken as such, and I am more than open to correction. overall it was a fantastic night, and I am very much looking forward to the next one!
(ps anyone got any news on Cameron Drew's injury ie how long till he fights again?)

Hi Christo, one of the reasons it didn't get fight of the night is because it was only a demo bout, due to the fight not being approved by the Sports Combat Commission we had to tell the boys that it would not count on your records, so they decided to have a demo anyway.........

+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
Noooo Wayyyy!
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

Christo
20-02-2006, 05:47 PM
Man, you have to be a tough nut to get up after that...slam (for lack of a better word)! that was unreal. For a second i had visions of Dom twitching on the ground, and the end of MMA in WA for 100 years!
I understand completely about the MMA fight only being a demo (and what a demo!) fight, I was of the understanding that the "fight of the night" trophy was not an offical award, but more a 'fan favorite' type trophy.
I look forward to more MMA in the future though, it can only do good things for the martial arts scene in WA. although i think we may need some stadium seating!!

With regards to the ref's attire, please understand that comment is not meant to incite anything, it is just a side point. Of course, the decisions made by the refs arent related to their attire in any way, it is more a comment on the image of the event. That may well be the image the organisers were going for, if that is the case then no problems. however it seems to me that the MC/Referees are the 'public image' of the event, and being in an 'official' type role it seems to me to make more sense having them look offical. Having said that, I understand that the ref (in most sports) is a crap of a job - very little thanks, rarely gets noticed for good things but always gets noticed for bad decisions (a bad decision being basically anything that goes against what the spectators think is the right decision!). It is not often people make comments such as "the referreeing was great tonight" (however I do personally recall thinking that the reff'ing of the last fight night, in particular of a gentleman whose name i dont know - he was bald, was fantastic).
As always they are just my opinions!
By the way does anyone know if there are any dvds floating around of any previous fight nights, or will saturdays one be floating around (I really wanna watch that head slam again!!!)

Christo welcome to the forum. I pretty much agree with everything you wrote. Now i have some constructive critisism to add. At these shows we only have the choice Jim Beam and cola in the pre mixed cans or beer and soft drink etc etc. Now being a connoisseur of alcoholic beverages i put to the promoters of the MWP to please supply SOME JIM BEAM AND DRY IT SH*TS ON THE COLA AND I THINK IT WILL SHOW IN YOUR SALES. I had to get that off my chest. One more thing has Curovic retired never to return in the ring or has he got one more or several more fights left. I would like to see him knee the sh#t out of someone again.
