Excellent! We in the sunshine state are being very spoilt already this year. Some of my favourite local fighters with a bit of spicy thai thrown in for good measure.
Curious about the return to RNA,but both venues have a great vibe.Any thoughts anyone?

Good strong card.......

Is Soren taking on Mongkorn in a "non-title" bout ????

Is Wazza's opponent " Sippoleck " actually meant to be " Leonard Sitpholek " from the same gym as Wanlop ?????

If it is... this guys likes to use his knees.I have seen him training
and is quite tall for a Thai.

cheers Spada

yeah he is tall, i've moved around with him before. he's half thai half negro i believe, i saw him fight ramazan in phuket a couple of years ago, and leonard won... ramazan wasn't at his best though. it should be a good fight for wazza if indeed it is leonard that he's fighting... but i'd have to go with wazza to win that one.

Great card.
I have a funny story of an Aussie man (John Wayne) calling a "half Thai half Negro man" (Orono) in Las vegas 31/2 years ago. He said that in front of an African American man at Master Toddy's Gym. It was so bad we (Americans) (he he he, I know there isn't any on this board) but Americans would never call a black man or woman a Negro that's soooooo 50's! The polite term would be black or if they are American, African American. If they are black and from Africa George Dubya Bush would say "African African". (You would have to have the comedy channel to understand that.) Anyway, please don't offend my American brothers or sisters and call them Negro. :)

These days the ONLY people who choose to use the "N" word are rap stars & the cowards who hide under bed sheets & pillow cases.
Its good to see that now even in australia we have become a more multi-cultural place and we have broken down alot but not all of the stereo-typical name calling of our indiginous people and all of the people who have chosen to move here from all over the world for the equal oppurtunities that are granted to all of those who wish to work hard & reap the rewards from it all.
Like my old uncle used to tell me" fix the holes in your own back yard before you look over the fence and give your neighbor advice on how to fill his holes". Took me a few years as a little kid to work that 1 out but now its sound advice, because we're not perfect and if you think you are go to the mirror & check yourself.

Those Evolution shows are such a treat.

I would love to see Shaggy against superior opponents though. Rob Davies should not be too much of a threat.

Can't wait to get there.

shaggy v eli madigan (mad x) would be worth a look??
any info on some undercard fights whispers have it that we
might be treated with the rematch of "got noi v george groth"
what a bummer that would be!! ha ha.
i got to admit though i liked the chandler venue a whole lot better.
bums on seats for everyone, anyway with a card like this i arn't complaining!!!!

Negro isn't the "N" word, that's spelled differently. Negro is just an old word not really used in America anymore, aside from perhaps by the elderly......I assume the origin of the word is derived from the Spanish language, and if so it's probably due to Spain being heavily involved in the very early slave trades in the Americas.

Most people probably take offense to "negro" because it sounds similar to the offensive version of the word. You ask me, I wouldn't be surprised if the offensive word "nigger" originated from American southerners mispronouncing the word "negro."

Angie: That's a funny story about JWP....I find Australians politically incorrect if you compare them to Americans, but to be honest I like it. It makes me laugh.....Besides, a lot of Americans are too anal about the whole race issue (Among other things).

On a side note, that's definitely a great line-up. Some good Thais being brought in via the Sitpholek camp.

Does anyone know much about Mongkorn? That isn't the guy who fought Villaume in the 2003 S-1 tournament, is it? I only ask because you'll always see variances in the spelling of Thai names. The guy in the S-1 tournament was Monkong, I think.

SPADA

Ghodrat .......

Mongkorn is the same guy that lost to Villuame in the S1.

He has been to fight here twice.

1st time was a draw against Preacher for the WMC world title.
2nd time he again fought the Preacher in a rematch for the title. He was successful with a points win.

The Sitpholek fighters are definately the real deal.
Leonard will give Wazza a tough battle with the knees.
Wanlop is at a similar level to Mongkorn and has a decent record.

I think Warren is a class above Leonard to be honest, and think warren will take it comfortably on points.

Looking forward to the Pixie v Keogh rematch too. I think Pixie will knock Keogh this time around.

Soren and Bruce have their work cut out for them with their opponents, should be some very tough battles no doubt.

bushi, Was at NTG gym today and was speaking to Nugget.
Asked him about the rumors about soren not being on the card, and he asked me not to say to much but this is what i can tell you guys.
At the time we spoke he is still on the Evo7 card, but they are waiting to hear back from the k1, about soren fighting in japan.
In nuggets own words he is all about what is best for his fighters and always puts there career first, and if the k1 wants soren that is the best move for his career, and he would let him go even if it ment not fighting on his promotion. if all goes well he will be fighting a major k1 opponent cant say who but lets say jwp could tell soren what to expect????????????

Bushi

Either way Soren is as draw card, and no doubt Nugget has his guys best interests firmly in his heart.

This EVO7 is going to be huge, I'd have to say Nugget & Josh are IMHO putting on the best shows in the COUNTRY. Having attended 2 of them, the quality of the line ups from the first to last fights make them the best shows without a doubt.

They are evenly matched in all categories and have the blend of the best local talent either taking on each other, or the best the rest of the world has to offer.

How good it must be having all these fighters wanting to be on the EVO shows..

Hope I can get up there for this one. Also hope Wazza pulls up ok after his fight next week against Boom Boom..

Just posting some thing on behalf of Nugget

After the shocking event that have taken place on the weekend
Evolution and it's staff would like to express it's
deepest sympathy to Ray and all the Rising staff and
also the fans who had to witness such violence.

As already stated on internet forums and in media articles,
violence is a part of society and unfortunatly on this occasion it took place at a kickboxing event.

On that note we feel its important for Evolution 7 to take place
so that kickboxing can move forward and be accepted as main stream sport.

We hope all the kickboxing community will support the event,
so we can put these terrible events behind us

What pub did they pull Rob Davies from?? I dont think the guy has fought in more than 2 years. (someone might confirm that) If the promoters of Evolution keep picking bums or fighters way passed their prime for "Shaggy", then his career will head in the same way Butchers did. Sure, the crowd love big knockouts but people in the fight game who know will surely see this as nothing more than another attempt to boost his ego and popularity, instead of his respect as a fighter who challenges himself and ducks no one..

Care to comment.....Seconds out round 2....

Hey lightning, the reason that the evo shows are the best in Australia,is because of the Match ups, some of the best fights in the last 10 years have been on evo promotions.
And as for your comments about shaggy fighting bums???????
No fighter that gets into a ring is a bum,and it pisses me of when people say that.Shaggy is only young and because he is not fighting the elite fighters in his weight class you disrespect him and the warriors he is fighting at the moment. You are obviously not a fighter, (with such poor comments)and if you are you are a disgrace to yourself the sport and your trainer.

JLB
29-03-2006, 06:36 PM
Flash, you have every right to be upset with that poor line dropped by Whitey. I did not have think either that Rob would have been the most dangerous opponent for Shaggy but he trained really hard for this fight until his accident and then who knows what happens, he is a tough durable bugger.

Most people like the way Shaggy goes in his fights and some of the guys he has fought and defeated were tough good fighters.

Going forward, the likes of Ross Ianson, Mark Spencer (have not seen him fight though but seems to go well) and Eli Madigan are more obvious choices.

rocketnoi
29-03-2006, 08:26 PM
Ya have to agree with the other guys, not too many of shaggy's opponents have been walk overs......sure he KO'd some but they were still there to fight and good on them for having a crack.

And from memory shaggy's last fight was against a tough japanese opponent who beat him in Japan......so you cant accuse him of taking easy opponents either.....

Ya after having seen Eli's last fight I would like to see him matched with Shaggy in the future

Flash,
to help you understand what I mean I'll compare Shaggy's match up with a match up in the Aussie boxing world from a few years ago. Former world title holder and hardman Lester Ellis came out of retirement (by the lure money) to take on a young, flashy on the rise fighter named Anthony Mundine. Ellis in his day had the rep of a boxer that everyone feared, and had the record to boot. Surely history and experience would be enough for Ellis to beat a guy that hadn't fought credible opponents at that time. As everyone expected, the time away from the ring and age had well and truely caught up with Ellis and Mundine put him away I think in 3.

Rob Davies time has been and unfortunatley gone. For some of these once great fighters the thought of one more, glory, itchy knuckles or money can be far to great.

As for Shaggy and his team It sure sounds good to know your up against ( and will probabley beat) a fighter that has fought the likes of Ben Holley, Jim Shannon ect. But that was a long time ago. Therefore people who know, dont respect it and see him as an entertainer/bums on seats fighter rather than a warrior. Hence my reference to the butcher on my last post.

I hope this clears any confusion..
Enjoy saturday night. I know I will.

If pixies training accident is old news then why havn't evolution promotions not changed their web site or made some sort of press release on his condition and stated who is his replacement. People who follow Pixie might be annoyed that nothing was mentioned.

For example If a big bout of flew ripped through the Brisbane Broncos with days before the big game at Suncorp against The Cowboys. And promoters threw the Toowoomba Clydesdales into replace them without telling the fans until game day, how do you think they would react???

Sure all the posters have been printed. Thats a given. But its not the only media tool Evolution use for their events.

Agree russ great fight,Preacher v wanlop, one of those fights that are very hard to score, but i thought preacher was more aggresive,Man he looked sharp, thought he deserved the win.
Wazza v leonard, a different story,sloppy fight.
I know i am going to cop it for this. But wazza fights are becoming so boring, since the supa8, when he fought so well against Soren and then the Preacher, every fight since he has no balance and just lunges in and locks the grapple on, this guy can box an can kick, buy lately the grapple is his only go.
Young Dane showed again that he is going to be something special, beating a tough thai with over 100 fights.

Definately agree. Paul isnt in Shaggy's league yet, and he knows that. But still took the fight so he could get the experience. And by taking on fights like this is the way to get into the league of these fighters. He put Shaggy on the retreat a few times and made Shaggy work a bit more. More experience and we'll see Paul turn into a very handy fighter.

Another great installment to the EVO series.
Agree Flash, i am not a huge Preacher fan but his showing last
night was xcellent. Punches in bunches loaded with LOTS of power &
intent. And it was good to see both fighters smiling at each other
almost constantly for the 5 rnds.[i do think Bruce edged out the win]
Paul W. V Shaggy. I was really dissapointed that 'Demon' Davies
had to pull out but what a replacement was Paul. Congrats mate,
on 4 days notice you took on one Oz' best and although being
on the wrong end of Shaggys fist & feet you did you and your team
proud. Rob Fogarty v Jesse Tierney was a 'cracker' Jesse constantly
landing with trademark Tribal knees to the body and Rob throwing
big big overhand rights which,if just one had landed sweet, well...
In all another well matched, sellout EVO event.Well done Josh,Nugget
and ALL the fighters.
And lastly, Dane NTG. Gotta love his entrance.

Congrats to Josh Sexton & Nugget for putting on another quality event.

Even with a reduced card... the fights were evenly matched and entertaining

Jesse Tireney NTG vs Rob Fogerty SCTB

I liked this clash between the big fellas.Rob had a few kilos advantage and took the fight to Jesse from the start. It took Jesse awhile to find his range and when he did,he started to land some nice knees to the midsection with some body rips.
Both of these guys stood toe to toe in the 2nd and 3rd rounds with Rob trying to land his big right hand to end it.
In the end Jesse did enough to take it on points.

Shaggy NTG vs Paul Warren

Big call for Paul to step up on only 4 days notice.
Shaggy was always going to be too strong for Paul... but I impressed with the way Paul went about it.Paul coped some massive head kicks
and recieved a couple of 8 counts but he showed plenty of heart to get back up and have a dig.

Shaggy by KO Round 2

Ghot NTG vs George Groth
WMC Australian title
This fight begs for another rematch.A real close battle with George landing some crisp hand combos in the 1st.Ghot rallied back in the 2nd using better technique but was still being tagged by Geroges punches.3rd round was a close yet again,Ghot finishing slightly stronger and George pushing all the way.
A draw would have been the best result... but the judges gave it to Ghot who retained his title.

Dane NTG vs Thai

Not sure on the thai's name but he had Rungchai in his corner.
This was Dane 1st fight in a while... and he looked very impressive.
The thai was using his push/side kick to good effect to keep Dane at distance.Dane had the height advantage and worked the grappple well against the shorter thai. The fight was fairly even until Dane swept the thai in a superb take down.... but unfortunately for the thai,he appeared to land wrongly and was badly wobbled. He took an 8 count but was anywhere but in the ring ready to fight, and was promptly put away by Dane.
Look out for this guy Dane,he has a big future.
Hope to see him matched against Chris White later in the year.

Warren " Wazza " Elson vs Leonard Sitpholek

Warren found himself against a thai that wasn't much shorter then himself. The fight wasn't the most attractive of the night, with the fight being fought from mainly in close. In the early going Leonard
started well throwing combos with Wazza using his looping punches to get in close and work the knees. This pattern continued for most of the fight and both boys looked gas by the end.Not the prettiest fight and a hard one to score.
Leonard had the early going... and Wazza finished slightly strong in the 4th and 5th rounds.
Leonard took the fight on points.

Preacher vs Wanlop.

Fight of the night.A worthy main event.
Preachers boxing skills have come along way and he showed some slick combos.Wanlop played the counter game and at times rushed at the preacher landed some cracking rib kicks.
Preacher finished stronger landing his punchers and Wanlop opening up a small cut on the preachers eye.
Should have been a draw.... but the Judges gave it to Wanlop.

Wanlop by split points decision.

cheers Spada

you've gotta love the Brisbane crowds. Whether at Lang Park or the RNA, nothing like a rowdy opinionated bull roar to show their feelings (did someone mention the Butcher?)

Anyway, with 2 controversial decisions going to the Thais over local boys no one can say biased judging.

Nice report as usual Spada.

Preacher vs Wanlop: This was an awesome fight and I am a huge Preacher fan, but I did think that Wanlop deserved it on points (although it was really, really close). I just think he did more with the Thai techniques, Preacher more with the boxing skills. Anyway, as always, worth another look on Fox before getting too carried away.

Lowlight for me, Wazza vs Leonard, I think they would both look better fighting someone else, very even matchup, but not the best match of styles from an audience perspective.

Highlight for me, Dane "Daddy Cool" ha ha, where the hell did he get that pimp suit? and nice downward elbow on the top of the head to finish (did it connect?) Ring announcer at the end "Good thing Dane can fight, cos he can't dance" Classic comedy...

Spada, great matchups there.

I reckon Shaggy would be too tough for Eli Madigan but I'd still love to see the fight.

Wazza vs DDD don't have a prediction there other than to say that Wazza would likely prefer to grapple and knee (yeah that is hardly a worthy prediction).

Chris White would be favourite there, but I'd love to see Dane Daddy Cool give it a shot, would be an awesome technical and fast fight either way.

Cheers

PS I simply gotta say it, I think Ghot did enough to win on points on Saturday night, given that he was the reigning title holder. He will always be accused of not doing enough because he tends to favour clean Thai techniques over aggressive boxing. Traditional Thai judging prefers good, clean, technical fighting and Ghot knows how to score a thai boxing match. Again, I'd love to see Fox first before getting too carried away, but I felt at the time that he had displayed the better Thaiboxing technique. We'll see.

I thought Ghot won his fight against George. George threw alot of shots but not that many landed. Ghot had a really good guard, pulled back and was in control the whole time. In Thailand it would of been hard to put a bet on because Ghot was scoring and landing his techniques and would have been a mile ahead. George threw plenty but if there not landing, you don't score.
Preacher's fight was a ball tearer, First round Wanlop looked like a mad man, 2nd still a mad man but slowing a little, 3 mmm maybe just Wanlop but Bruce was definitely getting his attention, 4 and 5 all Bruce, beat him to the punch and once that uppercut started landing Bruce really stepped it up. Great fight, very close, cant wait for the rematch.
Was a great night of fights and good to see Josh and Nugget biting the bullet and still going ahead with the show. They had all the right reasons to pull the show and even though there was a huge risk of loosing mega amounts of cash they still went ahead with it. Just like when both Josh and Nugget fought, it was All or Nothing and they have bought the same attitude to their promotions.

I look at all the mails. And many people think that Wanlop didn't win.
In my opinion he won. round 1,2,3 for Wanlop round 4 Bruce and Round 5 Wanlop. But all the rounds very close decision.Bruce was fighting very, very good but he forget to kick (only some low kicks)It was a Muaythai fight. And you must also look at the impact of the kicks and punches. Bruce did a lot of punches in the last rounds but not scoring a lot and wanlop was scoring with stopkick (So you control the fight)and throwing kicks all the time in the last round and that is in the mauythai the big points.
I spoke to Wanlop and he will like to have a rematch.

I guess you'd be annoyed if feel 100% that you won clearly, but as a fan I can say that it didn't matter to me. Best fight of the night anyway, with the two hardest warriors in the ring giving it their all in a fight that looked too close to pick for certain to me, and I always prefer to see that than a one way flogging anyway. Nobody could say that you have ever taken the easy fights in your career, and the QLD fans always recall the hardest fighters with more pride than the best win/loss ratios mate I promise you that.

Anyway, I just hope you get a chance to rematch and are satisfied with the judges decision either way to put it to rest for ya... awesome fight, one of the best main events ever, congratulations on fighting like a champion, you have earned your fan base no question.

Cheers

I think the Judges set the standard earlier in the night with the Ghot vs George fight and continued the trend right through to the final by rewarding the thai technique over hands.

There was no 8 count and neither Wanlop or Preacher dominated.

love to see a rematch.

Preacher, I think everyone on this forum regards you as a true champ, willing to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime, knowing you'll give it 110%.

It's guys like yourself, J Dubya and the up and comers that make this sport what it is.

Good luck in achieving what you want on '06 and beyond..

Everyone knows my loyalty to JW, but when these two guys fight, i pray for a draw. You are one of the best, Preacher. It was awsome watching the combos you were unleashing the other night.

Just like to say WELL DONE to the guys for again doing it in style and getting this show happening with a lot of challenges in the pre fight stages..

Preacher... what can I say mate i thought you did enough to win and your time will come soon enough.

I have got a full show report in the next IK on sale in about 10 days.

Also to all that came along to support this event and the sport in QLD great effort. Talking to police superintendent afterwards I think they now look at the sport in slightly a different light, and its all due to the crowd at the show and the great job done by Josh, Nugget and all their crew.

Cheers

devestated taht i did not get to make to to bris to watch the fight, would have been awsome. Sorry to hear of preachers loss, which was the main reason I wanted to go see the whole show. It was hard enough to get the sat night off for xplosion..and look how that turned out. but from what i hear it was a good show regardless I just hope fellow gold coasters can look forward to more fights this way in time.

Max Power, he's the man who's name you'd love to touch. But you mustn't touch! His name sounds good in your ear, but when you say it you mustn't fear! Cause his name can be said by anyone
