hi guys,

well the second poster is up and running, but there's still little indication as to who is actually fighting.

as far as i'm told so far, there will be.

Ben Smullen (JTS)
Chris White (Riddlers gym)
Justin gibbons (Sunshine Coast MT)
Steve Zankl (WA MT GYM)
Sonny (cambodian from NZ)
another NZ guy
and a WILDCARD entry.

out of a longer list of fighters this is the one that the promoter wishes to deliver to you guys on the night... obviously it might not work out that way so keep an eye out for updates and changes

so for the rest of the show, there will be 4-5 fights on the undercard and the semi mains between the eliminator section. so all up i think george's plan is to have around 11 or 12 fights on the card.

Hi guys, I get to be useful.
Please go to http://www.mkk.com.au/, it will answer any of your questions about Brute Force 5 Super 8 fight night next month.
If any trainers could add their info about the fighters that would be great too, if you could send the info direct to me even better. Tao, we need info on Corey.
As you can see we have some interstaters coming, and even some New Zealanders, so should be an interesting night.

Dazmon,

Can you confirm which sanctioning body is associated.

MKK's front page says "click here for WRKA Thai Boxing event", then the next link is WMC...

Just curious, is it WRKA......or WMC and can we get more updates on the card.

Only a few weeks out and it would be great to get some more confirmed names....Go chew George's ear off mate and find out will ya..

also we've 90% confirmed another fight on the undercard between a JTS boy and a SITYODTONG boy...

funnily enough though... and its had me pissing myself since i thought of it. one's last name is "johnson", and the other is "boner".

So i figure we'll have to introduce them as

ANDY "look at my" JOHNSON Vs STUART "the raging" BONER.

thats F*CKING hilarious if you ask me.

i hope the fight goes ahead for that very reason, regardless of who wins it'll be funny as hell. and i just know that howard leigh will join me in the laugh.

Or Ben "TC" Smullens with awesome punching power, took Ross I'anson apart with body rips....and Ross is a similar build to Steve..

thats strange.. for a taller bloke to get taken out with body rips?? wouldnt i'anson just knee, he's fairly good at that? steve is fit at throws long shots.. constantly mixes it up with punches, kicks and step up knee's.. he also scores alot in the grapple. if he isnt KO'd i think can trouble the best of them..

Watch out for Jordan Richards, he is the dark horse in my opinion. He is super fit, tall & lean-a good allrounder. He has beaten Quikdraw, drew with Ben Spivak after a lengthy break & has defeated a Thai who is a multi time gold medallist...
Interested to see if Jordan & Steven get to fight each other, a real grudge match that all WA have been waiting to see happen.

firstly dazmon... why on earth wouldn't you want the info about this show posted on here??? thats what this thread is for... apart from that, your link to your MKK website doesn't work anyway. why dont you give me a good reason as to why it shouldn't be on here. i dont know what ideas you guys have about promoting your show... but in my limited understanding of all this stuff, "EXPOSURE" is one of the greatest tools for successful promotion. but hey what would i know...

harls - you're right it is "Vannathy" and not Bannathy. it was written a Bannathy on the MKK website, i'm not sure if i'm supposed to divulge that info either.

and yeah corey and ben train together, but they will be on opposite sides of the draw. if the two happen to end up in the final together they'll have to fight. me in one corner and don in the other, it'll be funny. we'll probably be squirting water at eachother in the breaks. i'll probably put boxing oil in his vaseline etc. nah, it'll be okay...

i'd like to keep you all updated, but apparently dazmon doesn't want any info divulged... so you'll just have to keep guessing i suppose.

Good luck with everything.

Hey Daz,

I imagine that MKK would have liked people to look at their internet site to get information about the show. I note that the link has all the details to get tickets/ profiles etc... An excellent marketing tool to promote MKK and other upcoming events.

Maybe a hybrid of posting the card on this forum but keeping all of the details on the show on the webpage may have kept everyone happy.

PS: Good work to Con and yourself on the webpage - it looks great at the moment. The upgrade is a real improvement!

PPS: I think I will steal that idea re: show details to market upcoming events.

hey boys,

well we had judd down at the gym last night to move around with our boys. and whilst having a very karate style and lots of kicks off the front leg, he did look ready to go. it'll be interesting to see him go for it Thai style. fighting one of jason sutties boys... hands up would be the best advice i'd say. it was my first meeting with judd and he is a very lovely guy. a pleasure to have him in the gym. Good luck to him on his thai boxing debut.

IMO while there's alot of specualtion about who will be the victor in this 8 man event, Smullen just finished his 10 rounds on pads this morning. and in short, ben will do what he does best thats for sure.

as the show starts to take shape, don and i are starting to get excited about it all. hope you guys are too.

furthermore, and on a less friendly note.

Dazmon - i have bent over backwards for the brute force shows in the past... i've contributed alot of my time, free of charge, to help george and his promotion of Muaythai here. giving Exposure to the shows is IMO a huge part of getting people there. Considering 3 of my guys are on the show, i feel compelled to promote the show and gain some exposure for them. if you choose to use very narrow methods of promoting this show, such as having only one avenue for info, you will be destined to fail. this is one of the biggest forums for this sport in the southern hemisphere, so it makes perfect sense to me to give it full exposure here.

since the addition of my posts regarding the card, there has been a considerable amount of positve discussion about the show. prior to that the general comments were "WHATS HAPPENING??? " and "ANY INFO GUYS ???". that doesn't really sound like successful promoting to me.

you guys only stand to benefit from my involvement with this show and the comments i give about it. so don't start giving me SH!T for it. i'm a lot better as your allie than your enemy. believe me.

Come on guys - this is Kolovos's promotion and he should be free to promote HIS show the way HE wants. Not up to us to criticise his methods particularly on an open forum.

Lets all remember, we are trying to grow MT here and we all need each other regardless of personal agenda's/ preferences.

Lets get back to the topic and start revving up support for the show.

Karen, aren't we the forum members the ones that are HELPING by creating discussion !!! There's nothing wrong with people asking who's on the card and looking for updates

I don't think it unreasonable for the paying public, of which I am one, to ask for updates, and I humbly believe there's nothing wrong with creating discussion on this forum. I read Ax every day and there's little or nothing on that site (whereas Sportzblitz si predominantly THE local forum) so it makes sense IMHO that this forum be the one to create discussion.

further to the last post, your really need to pull your head out mate. Understand we are trying to grow the sport, especially the blokes in Victoria. The last thing we need is for newbies to come onto a forum like this to check out the sport and learn some more about it only to see stupid antics like yours. Every thread seems to turn in to a s**t fight and you are very often in the middle of it.

Is the problem with everyone else, or are you the problem?

OK a brief outlook,
As for fighters records, its not something that I really worry about, I always take into account there last 3-5 fights that tells you enough about them.....

Chris White;
Too light for this line up, if you haven't seen or fought Chris before he will trouble you, 2 losses out of last 3 fights.....

Jordan Richards;
This is a boy who has improved heaps, lots of angles and different combo's, moves well, has become a good all rounder, 3 wins last 3 fights against good opponents........he has a good chance

Steven Zankel;
This is my pick of the litter, this boy has come of age, he is tall with very good defence long straight punches, his strength will be his knee's and he uses the grapple well, 3 wins last 3 fights, he is coming in off a KO win in Japan.

Dazmon/MMA1,

i've sat here and typed several different reponses to all you comments, and finally i've decided rather than continue this argument, i'll have to let it go.

but in summary, please understand that the brute force shows have been an integrated effort. our contributions, as well as many others', have been a massive part of the brute force successes. we have put forward JTS fighters on every Brute force show, in support of Muaythai here in Melb. furthermore, we have contributed to the crediblity of Muaythai here with an unbeaten record on Brute force shows (except for smullen's double KO draw). added to this, i've contributed alot of my time to this shows progress also - we've given our time to Judd Reid at our gym so that he can get a feel for moving around with Thai stylists insuring that he can be appropriately prepared for his first Thai fight. Don & I have had meetings with george beginning last October, discussing the Super 8, offering our knowledge of Autralian Light-weights so that he could put together a strong line up. i've given phone numbers of trainers in both AUST and NZ that he simply could not of found otherwise. So at the end of day, considering all this, a little appreciation would be a good idea. because whilst you may not have been aware of how much i've given to this show, your comments and emails around may well be damaging the chance of me helping in the future. and while that my not concern you directly, it may very well concern george.

this is all i'm going to say on the matter, as i too would like to see this thread go back to what it was orginally started for... and what better way to do it, but with a quote of the original post

one of my initial suggestions to george with this show was to put on two 4 man eliminators. a light-weight one and a lightheavy-weight one. mainly cos thats what we have most of here. hae the initial four fights in both divisions and then the finals interjected with some undercard and semi main fights.

would have been cool...

60KG with Ben Smullen, Corey Konsaknoi, Chris White and Steve Zankl.
79kg with Matt reid, Brett Franklin (given he was fit), and Chad Walker, and Rob Lovett.

that would be a great line up for a double 4 man eliminator... its food for thought for the next one anyway.

how would that one tickle your fancy bushi. we may even talk more about this...

I like the idea of having two 4 man eliminators on the night and having the finals on another night. Also the format that Dixon has with the K1 guys, have 4 pools of fighters and the top 2 of each group go on to fight till we eventually have a winner. We should be able to organise something like this in the lightweight or K1 Max weight range.

Every year he fights at least once overseas, usually twice, and he is known better over there than here. In Japan they come for his autograph rather than the Japanese fighters. I have heard of the battles he has had, when he comes third or fourth in these international tournaments he usually loses on the first or second extension round.
Having said all that, he hasn't fought with gloves before and I'm sure Tao already mentioned his opponent, a kiwi from Suttie's stable...

TAO @ JTS
27-02-2006, 12:56 PM
your absolutely right harls...

8 mans are funny things... favourites get eliminated and underdogs win so often. with injuries etc that can set in hard during the breaks, they can produce strange outcomes. one fighter may well win his fight convinvingly and then have to pull out as his ankle grows to the size of a football between fights. look at pixie/finlayson in QLD super 8, where pixie won the fight, but due to an accidental head butt rendering pixie and nice big gash on the forehead late in the 3rd, he was awarded the decision but was unable to continue. with so many variables, its just too hard to pick...

one thing is for sure... it'll be an exciting night 100%.

BTW... dont forget Konsaknoi, you boys havent seen him fight for 6 months, and when he fought Zankl he'd been training for only 10 months with no previous martial arts training whatsoever, and he'd only been fight for 6 months. now with another 6 months training under is little belt, he's smarter, tougher, cleverer, and you cant stop him... he's the only boy in the gym that ben can't drop... hi guys,

if so though. DAZMON can you tell me how many fights duane has had??? regardless of not fighting thai style before, he's had alot of ring time in a full contact environment. andy's been training for 6 months, and had one fight. i think we'll have to meet halfway with this one and have it as a five rounder under full thai rules. duane has too much exp at the long range for andy. so to even it up we'll have to push for FTR so as not to cause a bad mismatch.

i'll let you know how that one shapes up soon.

Problem is if a person has an a1 ticket they can sit in four different seats as A1. Which in turn if people sit scattered, it would have been pointless to book a group of 14 to sit together? Yes, in fact, we have now got a sub-title for this fight night,
KYOKUSHINKAI vs MUAY THAI

Should be interesting.
3 of our fighters, all first timers, are donning the gloves and fighting 'your' muaythai rules!
I know Tao says his fighter has been training for only 6 months and we saw him fight in Shepp for the first time (and he was good), and the Sityodtong boy is fairly fresh too, but our 3 guys have been training for maybe 1-2 months (this year only really) and don't really do many KB or MT classes! They are use to bare knuckle fights and the occasional knee, but elbows rarely. the grapple will also be another interesting aspect.
We shall all see huh!?

Hi DazMon,

Ben ‘Baloo’ has been with me for two years and have been progressing slowly. When he first came to me he was 97kg and now walks around 80kg.

Baloo, has had probably around 7 to 8 novice fights and has had 2 proper fights last year in Brute Force and Besty Show.

I believe Baloo will have the upper hand for this one.

Some fundamental weaknesses the thai exponents should take advantage of, is that the bare knuckle Karate guys generally aren't used to punches to the head, as their rules allow only punches to the body. Also grappling is an obvious weakness. Be fun to see the thai exponents try fighting Bare knuckle rules one day too.

love seeing different styles clash !!! I went in a full contact karate tournament a couple of years ago ..I won one fight then got disqualified in the second for punching to the head and using the grapple !!!!! oops !!!! old habits die hard!!! be interesting to see how they go with the different rules ... have heard many good things about Judd Reid so he should go ok !!! and those kyokushin guys kick real hard and are usually well conditioned too ... good to see them having a go !!!

Hi All,

Last night at the weigh-in some of the interstate boyz weighed-in over, but George let them off and TC weren’t too happy. I totally understand why TC was P.O, I would be too if I were in his position. TC looks the biggest out of all of them and probably going to hit hardest.

One of the QLD boy, Justin needed to lose weight and had to go to a Gay’ joint and sweat it off in their sauna room. I heard he only went in there for only a few second and couldn’t take what he was witnessing and ran straight out. Lucky enough Karen and Jeab offered their key to their sauna at Sityodtong.

My boy Ben Mountford also had to jump in the sauna to sweat off 2.5kg. It was a learning curb for him in making weight.

For this one I am predicting Chris or TC will take it. I also predict Corey will pass the first round and might even get further. So good luck too every one and I will see you all tonight.

And Bushi please come and introduce yourself because I still don’t know who you are?

Just got home from a fantastic night of action. Best BF yet. Chris White was almost flawless in everything he did, the best fighting I've ever seen from him. His fight against Ben was textbook countering, absolutely awesome.

The surprise package(not to some though) was young Corey from JTS. This bloke is improving in leaps and bounds and held his own against much more experienced fighters. Would have made the final if it wasn't for the out of nowhere jumping knee from the gassed Sonny. TOUGH BOY!!!

Yeah it was a good night, surprise of the night was Sone, yesterday he was walking glumly around our gym, he was overweight and had to lose it, which he did of course. To answer someone else, just near us is Shapes Fitness (ex Underworld) and Subway Sauna (yes, the gay sauna) so those facilities are there if we need them, and we did for once!
Corey is the hard working everyone credits him with, just keeps going, you can't put him down.
Ben TC never disapppoints, the crowd loves him either way.

This was a night where we certainly saw a few champions (and some in the making)....

Chris "The Wild Thing" White

This fighter is so wonderful to watch - everything was perfectly timed and executed ; his technique is smooth and effective. The Wild Thing was by far the lightest contender there and looked tiny in comparison to some of the other fighters - I think he normally fights at 55kg so to win this Supa 8 is a true sign of his amazing skill/ ability and stable.

Out of the ring, Chris is one of the nicest guys. In some respects, this is probably a reflection of his trainer, The Riddler, who certainly observes the true Thai spirit of being humble and respectful. Go WA - it is always such a privilage to have them in Vic.

Corey

Although he did not make it into the finals, Australia is sure to see such big things from this boy. For someone who has only been fighting for under a year, he took it to some of these national champs. He is one tough cookie and was so unlucky to not make it to the finals. After his stint in Thailand, I am sure this guy will be a regular in QLD/WA competitions

Daniel Fox (MKK) -vs- Baloo (Ben Mountfield) : Was a tough fight for Baloo (the first when he has not knocked someone out I think) but credit to Daniel Fox who made his debut from Karate. Daniel looked great for a first timer, and I think it was a really close match with Baloo winning on points.

Duane Harris (MKK) -vs- Sharball : Duane finally got his first bout in Muay Thai and although he lost on points, I am sure he will be back. Having Judd Reid and Phil Jacobson in his corner (and as his trainers) can only mean good things.

Andy Johnston (JTS) -vs- Stuart Boner (Sityodong) : Andy is so tall and gangly - we may have another Wazza in the making. Was a really tough fight for both boys which ended in a draw. For second time fighters, they each did their gyms proud.

DazMon
06-03-2006, 10:32 AM
Muay Thai King, FYI Judd Reid was matched when that poster was printed and in fact was re-matched twice after this! There was no scam there, it was very unfortunate and his 3 opponents were not the only ones to pull out of this event.
I think, realistically speaking, you are on your own saying you only got 50% value!
There were 10 fights over 4-5 hours and some very young guys from Aus & NZ fighting their hearts out against some established names; there were even a couple of teenagers in the mix weren't there?

i take my hat off to corey, didnt think he had it in him after his 1st fight, he looked exhausted but he came back to do himself and JTS proud.

Great show and Chris is awesome to watch!

Hi All,

I would have to say last night is probably one of the best Muay Thai’ show I had ever seen in Victoria, so congratulation to George and the team. I hope Hammer will try to replay this show on Foxtel, it will certainly show the wider audience what Brute Force is all about.

As I predicted Christ or TC would take it! So well done to Christ White, he is certainly in a class of his own.

As for Corey, he is still new in the business, but last night he made some of the more experienced fighters look stupid at times. Like I predicted Corey did past the first round and was unlucky against Sony the NZ champ. He was winning all the rounds and Sony didn’t have any answers until the last 20 seconds in the third round with a lucky flying knee.
“Tao and Don what are you guys feeding your boys, please past the recipe?”

Benny Spivak vs Corey Konsaknoi is something I am looking forward too. A title bout between these two boyz would be a fight to remember in Victoria.

Muay Thai in Victoria is certainly growing, if we all work together it can be even bigger and better for all. Keep up the hard work people.

Cheers,

Imsta

Hi Guys,
Just thought I would post my thoughts on the night.
Definitley the best Brute Force show yet. Congratulations to George and his team, I just hope the word spreads and the support for MT in Victoria keeps growing.
Excellent value for money and most fights evenly matched.
Two fantastic knock-outs on the night and a clean shaven Ben Smullens.
I agree with Im, Corey V. Benny would be a great match-up for BF6.

Bushi, I ended up with your ticket, thanks to Harls. He owes you some $ which I passed on to him.
Was good to catch up with the forum members.

Daz, I hope the photos turn out OK. I tried my best!

Great show last night, definitely worth the drive down from Shepparton. Ben Smullen did Shepparton/J.T.S/Dominance/Melbourne proud last night. Great to be of any help to Benny.

Fantastic fights all night, Very tough, very skillful and some awesome knockouts. Corey did exceptionally well, as I knew he would, and always better when he does it against guys who have so much more experience! J.T.S definitely have a great recipe Imsta, and I am glad they offer their hospitality and help to me.

Chris White is always great to watch, and definitely a war for the final. Very close decision at the end, thought it could have swung both ways. Keep up the good work Vic, shows are great so far!

Yeah so I heard John Cav....., you can thanks me next time for giving you front row..

Such positive feedback on the show, just caught up with Tao & Corey and both agree was by far the best show Melbourne Muay Thai has seen, so again George, congratulations.

Im, that'd be a great match up but I think we'll be holding our breath, cos as you're probably all aware, Corye's off to Thailand for 12 months, so LOOK OUT MELBOURNE when he gets back..

SO...when is BF6 !!!

Hi Bushi,
Thanks again. I know how much you were looking forward to this show.

They were selling DVD's of past events last night, so hopefully this show will be available soon. A sound investment!

Hope to catch up at BF6, which by my calendatr will be on the 9th July. I'm sure this will be confirmed in the near future.

Cheers!

interested to hear how the finalists held up in the 8 man after 2 previous bouts.
I'm still not sure whether 8 man eliminators are suitable except for the top K1 and Max professionals given the heavy injury toll inflicted and reduced ability to be at 100% for the final bout. That was partly the reason we went with a 4 man in the last JNI show.

Guys prepared to the level of JWP, Masata etc can do it but I'm not sure how suitable the format is for the general group of semi-pro fighters.

hi guys,

thanks so much to everyone for suppotrting this historical Muaythai event. i'm hoping this super 8 will be the first of a yearly series. i agree and thought this was the best Muaythai show tht victoria has ever seen. the brute force shows continue to grow not only in numbers but in quality of fights.

congratualtions to Chris White who in my opinion deserved the win... he continues to amaze me with his progression in this sport. just when you think he's at his peak, he takes it to a new level. his thai style is simply the finest i've seen in a non-thai fighter for some time.

thank you everyone for you kind words regarding the JTS boys, particularly Corey Konsaknoi... a dark horse indeed huh. we were absolutely devistated when he got caught with that incredible flying knee from nowhere. we thought we had that fight in the bag. we were yelling to corey to back off and move around believing he's done more than enough to win, but unfortunately Sone had the final say, going to prove the "beware of a wounded tiger" expression. Corey was in good spirits after the show and was happy with the way he'd fought. he was particularly happy to beat Steve Zankl who was his only loss up to that point in his short fight career. we are absolutely proud of his efforts...

also a massive thank you to Daniel Shearing, who despite having a completely incapacitated right shin, saved the show from cancellation, by agreeing to fight, when Sefa had to pull out due to a foot injury on the tues before the night. Daniel selflessly took the fight knowing the situation and tried to give his best efforts.

finally... John Cav - could you please send copies of the photo's to me somehow. we would love to see them.

Well done to Dwayne and Daniel, sounds like both had good tough first fights, no doubt they'll be back! I'm sure Judd would have been just as frustrated as the crowd at the late withdrawal.

Sounds as though MT in Vic is going from strength to strength, congrats to all those involved.
