Does fighting k1 rules or similar rules hurt our good thai fighters
just an observation. Do they start to use there hands more and loose there grappling skills. jdubbya might answer this one.

Interesting question. It wouldn't have been a problem if K-1 didn't change the rules, but now, I say it suits kickboxers a lot more than it suits muay thai boxers.

Flash you are a smart fellow, your spot on!
I'll comment though I'm not a fighter. I think that if a thai stylist fights flat out K-1 rules over a long period, and caters their training to K-1, it would effect on their Thai skills marginally. But, I think the emphasis on more striking particularly punching may actually have a beneficial effect. The fighter could come back to full Thai with improved punches etc. Example; Look at JWP, His stint in boxing was even more different than K-1 and he came back to MT and K-1 with improved punches IMHO. It didn't hurt his Thai skills one bit either..

Thanks harls, for your response very sad that all the so called fighters and trainers on this site cant take 60 sec to give an opinion on a topic that i get asked all the time bye young fighters. I have been out of the game for to long to give them the right answers. To all the idiots that give harls a hard time, you say he is a know it all. WELL AT LEAST HE GIVES AN OPINION.
I dont make many posts but read all posts and to the people that make threats on this site and then clam to be trained fighters YOU ARE A DISCRACE TO THE ART OF MARTIAL ARTS. REAL WARRIORS WOULD NOT CARRY ON LIKE THE SCHOOL YARD BULLY.

flash, im not a pro or nothing but i think it does hurt the fighters, not only that it hurts the fans. we get to see less of our top thai fighters fighting full thai rules.
i must say that it would be hard to fight full thai then try to go in the k1 with limited grappling.

Flash the only way I can see it would hurt them is on there fight record, putting them out of there confort zone will be hard at first but give it a couple of fights and they should adapt no problem.
If a MT fighter is going to have a KB fight then that is how he should train for that fight, if the prep is good enough there shouldn't be a problem.
If I was getting a fighter ready for a KB fight I would concentrate more on the hand department and the range that the fighter would fight from, side movement and attacks from differnet angles because the fight won't go to grapple, I would also work alot on the body shots seeing they can't knee you in the head when you are throwing shots down low, also depending on the fighter (short or tall)I would open the range on there kicking so they could finish with long hand combo's then change angle and attack again.
Hope this is what you were looking for............
