Jones stripped of IBF crown

UNDISPUTED light heavyweight champion Roy Jones has been stripped of his International Boxing Federation crown for making a date to fight World Boxing Association heavyweight champion John Ruiz.
The all-American matchup is set for March 1 in Las Vegas, although Jones has yet to sign paperwork with promoter Don King in a dispute over rights to a subsequent fight, which King wants against the IBF heavyweight champion.
That title, vacated by England's Lennox Lewis, will be decided next month in Atlantic City between Americans Chris Byrd and Evander Holyfield.
Jones was to make a mandatory defence against top-ranked challenger Antonio Tarver, who is now expected to meet fellow American Montell Griffin for the vacant IBF title.
Jones let a Monday deadline pass to appeal the decision.
