WBC..Standing eight count???

I was reading this question on another forum and no-one knew the answer.
During the JWP WBC fight the ref said 'No standing eight count" but alas
there was one. Whats that all about?

no there wasn't. JWP was knocked down and received an 8 count.

No standing 8 count means the ref will not intervene on behalf of a fighter failing to defend himself (while still on feet) for the purpose of issuing an 8 count.
The ref would stop the fight if this situation occurred.

but lets be realistic. how long you been around the game for? since you had an "association" with mitch i'd say a while. and you dont know a basic rule like the standing 8 count??! tool.

as for me personally flaming posters on here...pay attention a little closer, i've never done it! think about it.

if you want to challenge my opinion or factual knowledge on anything, fire away! always good to have a debate if you have the sense of humour to handle it. but you'll have to change that signature first, a grown man engaging in hero worship is plain creepy! ps..a standing 8 count doesn't change meaning whether you're in Nevada or not. plnety of kb fights have used a standing 8 in the rules, did you not watch zambides and kara murat? huh? well did you? russ?

The standing 8 count is an old rule, been used in boxing and kickboxing worldwide for decades. Sometimes it gets waived at the rules meeting before certain bouts, some states dont allow it at all. Just depends. I think there should never be a standing 8 count anyway.

hahahaa im sure if some1 was on the end of a flurry of big shots they'd appreciate a standing 8 count..hehehe
i think somtimes its in the fighters interest, theyre probably going to get dropped anyway, just try and save the damage a bit.. thats pretty much what happened to me in Kazakhstan, i got caught on the end of a nasty left hook from a thai and was given the standing count.. im glad, a few more shots and i would have been on my arse <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

i hate the standing 8, the rule is wrong on both ends.for a start, when i had a guy ready to go i wanted to get the job done not let that damn rule disrupt the flow of the action (and i bet zambides felt the same way in the 3rd round of the murat fight) but more importantly it can actually be a dangerous rule. if one guy is getting thumped on his feet, out on his feet but wont drop, then the ref has to make the decision to jump in and save him..not PROLONG it by depriving the attackers chance of a knockout by giving the guy getting bashed a brief rest.instead of stopping the fight, you give one guy another chance to take unnecessary punishment. you either stop the fight or you don't. counts are for when you get dropped.

its definately a debatable rule, but as a fighter you should not let yourself get in the position for a standing 8 count to be given..
