Apparently its been announced that these two will be matching up under MMA rules in Pride Shockwave. Should be a hell of a macthup!

Finally... the rematch I've been waiting three years for!

I was there in Nagoya when Mirko beat Hunt in 2002, hit him with that rear leg roundkick that would have KO'd anyone else but not Mark.

Now, under pride, go the Sleeping Pills!!!

mmm, will it be like Aerts and Le Banner in the GP recently...great fighters but in their twilight.

This fight a couple years ago would have been great.
What's Hunt weigh in thesedays?

Not too sure Voice. But you can bet he's getting paid a bucketload for the fight... Hunt is one of the highest paid fighters on the planet these days.

yeah, i can believe it Shiv.
I reckon that slugfest against Sefo years back in the K1 GP finals probably added an extra zero to each of their purses alone.

Not many hard f***ers like that left.

Yep

That's still voted the all-time favourite fan fight in K-1.

Yeh, Mark is a phenomenon, hardest head in all of fight sports. Mirko's kick would have KO'd anyone else cold and send them to the ICU, but Mark got straight up off it.

In 2002 GP he took an inhuman beating to the legs and head against LeBanner and still dropped JLB with ten seconds to go. He also took a murderous beating in Paris against JLB.

Mark was something else when he was on his game, like I said in another thread, he could have won the GP in 2003 and 2004 with ease if he'd stuck with K-1 and trained hard.

Will we ever see Pride on aussie TV, maybe PPV?? I'd love to see matches such as this. Go the sleeping pills! I can't imagine Mirko getting up from a flush punch by Mark Hunt with those MMA gloves.

you'd think if Mark could get his fitness happening he would be the ultimate in MMA fighting.
Think about it...unstoppable on his feet (who'd be stupid enough to try to box against him), and on the deck his 130-odd kgs would give him unbearable weight against an opponent.

Up against the ring he would deliver elbows and knees.

Yes, with the right mindset and fitness, Hunt should be unstoppable IMO.

Mark got cleaned up on the ground by Yoshida in his first fight, but looked decent enough all things considered.

He had a great fight against Wanderlai Silva which, if you havent seen is worth trying to track down. Even though Hunt out-weighed the Axe Murderer by a bunch, Wand had the massive advantage on the ground, but its the first time I can ever recall Silva backing up of looking shaken in a fight.

Hunt at one staged dropped him with a left hook that didnt land, but his forearm caught the top of silvas head with enough force to knock him down.

Once his ground game gets right up there he will be a force for sure, his build with short limbs and immense power will make him a hard dude to sub i would think.

What was the story behind Mark leaving the kickboxing/K-1 game anyway?
I would've thought with his power he would've been tailor made for the standup stuff. Alot of his power gets negated when you go to ground.

He probably wanted to prove that he can mix it up with MMA boyz. As some one said, he is the best K-1 fighter in history.

^^ Are you referring to Mark Hunt being the greatest K-1 fighter of all time?? I don't think so. Ernesto Hoost or Peter Aerts deserve that tag. Mark could've been had he won the 2002, 2003 and 2004 GPs, which is conceivable, he could've, but he didn't, so he isn't. But that doesn't take away from his accomplishments, he's still a great K-1 fighter, ONE of the best ever, not THE best though.

Probably the fact that he's earning $400k an appearance

I cant imagine seeing the fella in a pair of tiny tapout shorts.
Seriously if he gets his ground game on watch out UFC Boys, 130 kg's of malcontented moari muscle coming down on you forget about it.
All the best to the big fella hope mark does well in the octogon.

Huh? Best K-1 fighter in history? You're joking right??

Mark was awesome, but you can't go past Hoost and Aerts as the best of all time.
