WMC-S1 - Press conference: ‘The King’s Birthday Tournament

The historical Ratanakosin Hotel opposite the Grand Palace was the venue for the Press conference of the prestigious King’s Cup staged on December 5th, 2005.

The King’s Birthday Tournament is the biggest MUAYTHAI tournament in the world. Especially for this year, the event will be telecasted around the world, as Thailand’s Super Promoter Songchai Ratanasuban and the World MUAYTHAI Council, the world governing body for MUAYTHAI, have joined forces to create this incredible international event.

Not only is the Tournament special in many ways, but also for the first time in 30 years His Majesty the King has donated the King’s Cup to be given to the best boxer.

It is the most honorable event any boxer could wish to be able to participate.
Moreover, a female Muaythai bout is put on the fight card for the first time and the WMC World Title is up for grab as well. The female bout is a great example of WMC great achievement showing that the girls are now fully accepted in the world of MUAYTHAI.

The Press Conference was a huge success especially the Privy Councilor of His Majesty the King opened the press conference – his presence shows the support to Khun Songchai and the WMC in Thailand.

His Excellency congratulated the organizers and said that this is a proud moment for every fighter and hopefully, with this event, the world will join in to celebrate his Majesties Birthday. He stated that it would be an unforgettable experience to see millions of candles lit up in that same evening including hundred thousands of spectators will be cheering the fighters traveled to join the event from around the world.

General Chetta Thanajaro, WMC President, said that the World MUAYTHAI Council is very happy to cooperate with Songchai. He reminded all the boxers that this will be the highlight of their fighting careers and wished them his best.

Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, IFMA President, stated that he is very proud to see many fighters worked their way up from Amateur ranks to fight in the most honorable MUAYTHAI Tournament in the world.

He said fighters like Daoprasuk, two times IFMA World Champion, Bruce McFie, and so on have been former Amateur champions who have such remarkable skills and experience.

Also, Dr. Sakchye thanked Khun Songchai for his hard work.

Stephan Fox, WMC Vice President, stated that Khun Songchai is the world’s biggest promoter and matchmaker. He said that the WMC and Songchai’s cooperation in this event would generate a historical day for MUAYTHAI. In addition, with the WMC Network, the event will reach Millions of people around the world.

Next words have been spoken by Mister Marek from Czech Republic and Mister Pierre from Hongkong thanking Khun Songchai for all the hard work he has put in to promote MUAYTHAI and wishing all fighters good luck.

The final words were Khun Songchai’s. He first thanked H.E General Pichitr for his presence and also stated that he was overwhelmed by the fact the His Majesty has donated a Royal Cup to the best boxer in this event. Khun Songchai said that the S1 has become a house hold name for Muaythai Competition and with the involvement of the WMC (the world’s governing body), the King’s Cup in celebration of His Majesty will be remembered for eternity.

WMC S1 KING'S BIRTHDAY TOURNAMENT

More than 300,000 people are expected in the biggest MUAYTHAI Event ever staged
The World MUAYTHAI Council, the world’s authoritative MUAYTHAI Body under the directive of the Royal Thai Government, joins forces with Songchai Promotion to setup the biggest MUAYTHAI Spectacle ever staged.

The event is held in honor of His Majesty the King’s Birthday with more than 300,000 spectators expected through out the 12 hours of fighting.

The specially selected boxers for this event will compete for the most honorable prize “King’s Cup” donated from the King of Thailand. Sanam Luang Park, outside the so famous Wat Phra Kaew (Royal Palace), is the venue for this extraordinary show of Boxing and MUAYTHAI.

The Privy Councilor of the King will preside over the opening ceremony. The show will start with International Boxing World Boxing Champion Yodsanan 3K Battery versus Bart Abapo.

The following fights belong to the 8 WMC-S1 Super Fights Program. The fighters are considered the best from different countries competing for World, European, Intercontinental, and Muaythai Against Drugs Titles on the card.

For the female Muaythai Fan, WMC-S1 brings the best female fighters on stage – the fight between Thai Superstar Daoprasuk VS Marry Curiki from Spain.This will be the first time ever-female fighters are participating in the Kings Birthday tournament.

At about 8.00 pm of the night, million of people will gather up for the candle lighting ceremony to celebrate H.M. the King’s Birthday – surely, one of the most amazing and overwhelming scenes anyone would ever seen.

Another highlight of the night will start after the ceremony. For those who love to see Heavyweight Fights, you don’t want to miss this event. WMC-S1 will present Super 8 Heavyweight knockout fights with fighters from France, Holland, Iran, Russia, and Kazakhstan. The middle fight is arranged for the Asian challenge bout of Japan versus Thailand.

At 23.00, WMC-S1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 72 KG – the fights are set for the famous Bruce McFie from Australia, Charles Scrabosky from France, Aslan Magamedov (Russia), Wanlop Sitpolek (Thai) and more to decide who will be the champion of the champions.

By the end of the night, let’s say early morning, the trophy donated by His Majesty the King will go to the best boxer. Congratulations to the Super Promoter, Mr. Songchai Ratanasuban and the World MUAYTHAI Council for such fantastic event of the year.

no Bill im in melbourne as we have a big meeting for the WMC victoria tomorrow. it will be the first one ive missed in quite a few years and it looks like the best card in 4 years. best of luck to bruce.
