Well, thanks again to all the Kiwis who tuned in to watch the K-1 Grand Prix on TV2 last Saturday night. Looks like we've made it a clean sweep of the year, topping the ratings yet again and getting a 50% share in the target demographic.
This caps a great year for K-1 on TV2, with eight shows in total, including three local shows and five international shows.
Look out for more K-1 action on TV2 next year and also for the Commonwealth Games boxing on TV1.

Unfortunately no, no commercial interest this side of the ditch, though I don't think it's necessarily been pushed to them.
Kiwi's do love their fight sports and via Dixon's marketing and TVNZ's massive mainstream publicity, you'd be hard pressed to find a Kiwi who doesn't know what K-1 is these days. They have been all about the brand push over there and it has worked wonders.

Get Dixon over here then...
Especially now that the main ratings are over, put it on and see how it rates

ZDK im confused, you say bring dixon to melbourne, but dixon runs the same sort of shows Tarik runs, like the K1. You talk about "muay thai muay thai full muay thai" maybe you just have a problem with Tarik not his promotions.

Is TV2 paid TV? Don't they have foxtel in NZ?

Static.
I LOVE kickboking (K1), particularly the K1 Max but my prefernece is Muay Thai. Also having said that, and it's just IMHO you can't compare Tariks shows with the K1 Oceania of today, and I'm talking about the quality of the fights, not the girls, the pyrotechnics, it's about the match ups...I still to this day watch the K1 that Tarik had at Rod Laver with Hoost, McDonald etc..that was a great card.
And you have obviously noted my previous posts & preferences, I have made NO negative comment on NR3 that I can remember. The show was on Fox the other night and all i hear is fantastic feedback from it, perhaps that's cos the quality of the card was better....
Don't have a problem with Tarik cos I've never met him, but some of the past promotions YES I do...I've been to a few of his shows in the past, I haven't of late and that's my choice, and it's only becaue of the fighters and fight styles I want to see..I won't pay $70 for a ticket to one of Tariks shows given his recent cards but I would pay $70 bucks to see, Graham, Slowinski, Suttie etc doing the rounds PLUS a strong undercard.
I'm all for him promoting cards like the NR3 in most cases, would love nothing more to see the likes of Jason Tramsek, Ronnie Najar and others make a name for themselves....
Thanks for taking note of my posts Static, and yes i'd LOVE to see K1 on mainstream TV (and also more Full Thai)..

Oh and btw Static, the "Bring Dixon over here" was more for the "get the SPORT on mainstream TV" not to compete against Tarik

static is static at this moment, can't find the words to have a come-back yet stay tune all. lol.
Well done to Dixon.. I was there when the first of his shows was telecast on TV2 (which is a free to air station run by the government!)
At first they were shown the next day now they are shown with an hour delay! He even had it arranged for a live broadcast of the Grand prix from Japan but unfortunately ,from memory , there was a problem with Japanese broadcaster!
Imsta they dont have foxtel as such in NZ they have Sky tv.. same deal different label....
That said there is a lot ****e on NZ tv (ahem Shortland Street) so its not hard to see why it does well hahaha!!

someone with contacts needs to pass this on to TV in Australia, if you don't like Cricket/Football/Car Racing you dont get much of a choice on what to watch.
K1 running up against Australian Idol & Dancing with the stars, i know what i'd be tuning into.
I know its dreaming, but hey, one day someone will listen.
Big D in training, will be back in da house one day......

yeah great work from Dixon and the Kiwi public in large. Those figures are bloody incredible, hats off to NZ (as much as it pains me to say so!)
Commercial TV in Aus in another matter...I have some contacts at one of the stations and I made some enquiries on this exact matter this year.
Fair to say headbutting a hole through a brick wall would be easier than convincing some of the programming types on the merits of our sport.
Not impossible, but certainly a task requiring much planning and tenacity!

Shiv,
Are we ever going to see k1 on Aussie tv's in 2006?
It's beyond the joke. The worlds best fighting circuit is not on air in Australia when we have so much in-put into K1.
Eurosport have the coverages, dont know why we get the eurosport news instead of the actual channel that shows events like Superleague, K1/K1 Max and now the A1!!!
