I'm confused...what exactly is the WMTA and how does a kickboxer like Reinhard Badato fight for a world title???
Anyone?

well as i posted on another thread, it is these organisations and 'titles' that people should be having a go at, not WBC titles that quality fighters like JWP and Carnage are fighting for.
Apologies, I am hijacking an informative thread however.

What weight is Reinhardt's title fight at? Is it modified thai? And seeing as it's 3 min rounds I take it that it's a Pro title?
Cheers!

I think Pixie and TS2 won WMTO world titles in England, super-welterweight and super-featherweight respectively, if I recall correctly. Mark Pease will let us know for sure if he happens to read this thread.

there is no WMTA...someone try to find where it is registered and administered. I have searched and cannot find a registered business with that name.
How does Reinhardt Badato, a kickboxer, earn the ability to fight for a Muay Thai world title, and then at modified rules?
Why is everyone arguing about WMC vs WBC when this sort of stuff can be allowed to occur?
LMFAO.

Ironically, the WMTA, along with the IMF, were arguably the most credible Muay Thai sanctioning bodies pre-WMTC, as it was known back then.

Thanks for that info..Supermario...are you able to tell us who are the champions in the WMTA then...Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts, Dekker, the lightheavy weight Dutch champion who lived in Thailand ??? he was the most famous white fighter (Falang i think they say in Thai) who ever fought
Muay Thai in Thailand & Holland & World wide..also.Gilbert Balletine from Famous Chakuriki gym...

yes indeed Supermario, the WMTA was a force around 15-20yrs ago.
My question to anyone is what has become of it in the last decade as I think you will find it is a phantom organisation now and these WMTA 'titles' do not exist.

Lucy, if I was to try and tell you the WMTA champs of yesteryear it would be from memory only. I do remember watching videos of Dutch kickboxing fight nights involving Peter Aerts, Ernesto Hoost, Gilbert Ballentine, Ramon Dekker, Rob Kaman, Ivan Hyppolite, Orlando Wiet... not all on the same card of course. I know Branko Cikatic once held the WMTA world heavyweight title, a title later held by Peter Aerts, but I honestly didn't hear anything about the organisation after the mid '90s.

Last time I heard of the WMTA was when Daniel Dawson beat Krongsak Lek in Darwin for the world muay thai title.
He then defended it on the Gold Coast against Japanese shootboxing star Kenchi Ogata.(the double knockdown fight )
and then 1 week later won the Judgement Day.
That sanctioning body has been around for ages..... and I was lead to believe the organisation fought mainly under modified rules ( no elbows ).
Con "poison man " Liristes
Is this the same guy that knocked the Preacher out in Sydney and lost a close rematch at the Calamvale a few years ago?????
If it is... this guy is a huge puncher.
Is he going to give it a go again ??????

spada, it is still 'going around' because people keep trying to wring another 'world title' out of it even though it really died a decade ago.
Perhaps Lucy might enlighten us...even she doesn't have any fighters competing for a WMTA title.

You know what I just remembered, 'Special K' Nick Kara beat Manson Gibson for the WMTA world light-heavyweight Muay Thai title. I'm pretty sure I read it on IK, but could be wrong. I didn't think Manson Gibson fought Muay Thai, but maybe it was also under modiefied Thai rules.

well well well...he's at it again...
a week before the fight, Greg Foley has done a Houdini and pulled out of his fight against Charles August.
Nice touch Greg, almost like deciding whether to show up for football training isn't it?
And people wonder why promoters draft up contracts... you gotta feel sorry for Steve Jez and the punters who bought tickets in good faith.
I heard his reason was that he wasn't quite up for it.

That sucks. One of Steve Jez's big show got canned too a few months back. I think it was a 4 or 8 man eliminator where the winner got a Harley worth more than the old Serb club.
What a let down for the spectators and Charles August

LOL, hilarious. This should go in the chuck norris thread. " you dont put greg on a contract, he puts you on contract."
sad, and feel sorry for Jez. Hope the others ramp up the show for him.

Reinhard Badato defeated Pasi Larsson with an unanimous decision. He had the Finnish fighter on the back foot in the later stages of the fight.
Charles August defeated Jason Baltoska in the fifth round. After two eight counts, August finished Baltoska off with a big rip which dropped him for third time and final time.
Jason Scerri defeated Steve Skvorc by split points decision in one hellava slugfest. Skvorc's comeback fight after a two year layoff, was reminiscent of his epic battles with Gino Zampogna some five years ago. This fight was a good one for the punters with the guys giving it all. Scerri now holds the WMTA Australian Middleweight title.
Now, whilst not the main event, the return of the Poison Man was very much anticipated.
BUT....Sydney try-hard fighter Khalil Kobassi (Gonad Man), who if anything, showed he would jump in against anyone, anytime, anywhere, came away with a TKO win over the Poison Man. It was 'one of those things' that happen in kickboxing i suppose, but after having his legs kicked out from underneath him on many occasions, Kobassi executed a jumping spining back kick and caught a ducking Liristis on top of the head. It opened a nasty cut which had the claret flowing down the side of his face.
The fight had to be stopped but that didn't stop the Poison Man who wanted to go on - come hell or high water! He had to be subdued by several people before coming to terms with the shock result of the fight. The Poison Man has vowed to get his revenge on Kobassi "Khalil..... I'm coming to get YOU!"
Mohammed Sarhan gave weight away to Adam Harvey in a last mintue match up as their opponents had apparent immigratin problems. Harvey took the win MPD
Cindy Ryan won a UPD against Michelle Visini. Visini threw heaps of knees during the fight but mustn't have scored as the Ryan, with her bombing overhand rights, took the win.
Peter Georgiou defeated Sebastian Gonzales by MPD in a knee fight.
Rustam Attai defeated Brad Upton MPD
Aaron Ryan drew against Mahdi Sultan
Shaun Carrlios UPD over Masa Nori
Hewa Hassan MPD over Michael Mittgu
